This Studio is an Entertainer’s Dream Space

When your studio is so gorgeously designed, it is prettier than most homes, you know you’ve got a good space on your hands. And I’m only slightly jealous of that whole wall full of entertaining accoutrements. Ok, ok maybe a bit more than slightly but do you blame me? Tour the stunning hub of Spread Love EventsThe Collection Rentals through the lens of Whitney Krutzfeldt Photography  and prepare to fall hard for all those well styled bookshelves.

It’s every creative’s dream to have a space to call their own! Spread Love Events has been able to tick that goal off their list, opening their own studio on the North Shore of Vancouver, Canada in 2016. Sharing the space with their sister company, The Collection Rentals, principal planner and creative director Ashley Bond had a vision in mind from the start.

“When we first found this space it was exactly the size we wanted – but it had a black and red lino floor, black ceiling and very little natural light! It needed some love but we could see it had so much potential!”

Along with her team, Ashley set out to transform the space into an inspiring yet functional work environment.

“We wanted our studio to be visually pleasing for ourselves and our clients, but also practical. We knew we wanted to have a lounge area to showcase our rental furniture, an inviting table to meet at and natural light; but we also needed more practical items like work desks, shelving for our inventory, an industrial sink, and plenty of space for designing and creating our florals, stationery and decor.

“We chose some specialty pieces from Restoration Hardware and The Cross Decor and Design in Vancouver, and combined these with other affordable pieces we picked up along the way that still complemented the more modern aesthetic we were after. We’re pretty thrilled with how it came together!”

I feel most inspired when I’m out in nature, or taking in the sights and sounds of a new neighborhood or city. Creating the space and time to allow your mind to wander and dream, and eyes to take in new environments, is so important. For me, it’s when I feel free to explore (in my mind or through a forest or city) that the best ideas come. Fortunately our studio is located close to the ocean and the mountains!

Natural environments, fashion and design, personal memories, art, the seasons, architecture and our surroundings inspire our designs. It is important to look outside of weddings for event design inspiration. A pattern, favorite song, or place is enough for us to begin the inspiration process with our clients. Ultimately our designs are about our clients, reflecting what they love and how they fell in love or like to celebrate.

Ring in Spring with Easy Tips for Flower-Filled Entertaining

Snow, shmo… we are ALL about Spring now and this party is lighting a fire under our seasonal entertaining booties. With a fresh, citrus infused color palette, easy tips for wining (or smoothie-ing) and dining and topped off with the most creative hostess gift idea ever, see what goes into a Spring party that sparkles. Lauryn Prattes Styling and Events teamed up with Sweet Root VillageMomental DesignsLaura Hooper Calligraphy and Abby Jiu Photography and you can catch it all right here!

We love any excuse to host a party, and once the weather is finally starting to warm up we will be craving an evening at home with friends out on the patio, or even inside with the windows open. We have a few great Spring Entertaining Tips below, sure to make any party picture per-fect!

Give your guests something fun with these easy Herb Place Card Favors

Add an extra personal touch with a personal favorite recipe using that herb. We picked up glass votive holders from West Elm and planted a few herbs, finish with a wrap of paper that coordinates with the table design, and made it extra special with a laser cut name tag from LHCalligraphy. We also have some downloadable recipe cards from Momental for you too! Click to download  the recipe card front and back.

Forgo a linen and jazz up your table with easy (and disposable!) place mats

We commissioned Momental Design to create hand painted versions for us, but you could easily make your own with patterned papers from Paper Source. Keep all the patterns the same, or mix a few complimentary styles for added interest. Momental created a printable file just for SMP Living Readers! Download the file and print at your local print shop.

Embrace the flavors and colors of spring by serving a signature smoothie

Stir in a few superfoods (like Chia, Gogi Berries or Hemp) and embrace the newest trend.

Edible flower garnish

Edible flowers are one of the easiest ways to bring color and interest to a dish, and definitely is a must for a Spring event. Pansies, rose petals and lavender are all edible, just make sure you buy organic!

Creative Food

Who said dinner parties have to be formal and stuffy? Lighten things up with stylish bites and tapas instead of a heavy plated dinner. Have fun with props and take inspiration from Heirloom with mini-picnic baskets, cakes stands, and of course a variety of platters.

Interactive desserts

Make a handful of mini-pies and then set out in a different room with a variety of toppings for guests to top their own, as well as to get everyone up from the table and socializing.

Don’t forget the hostess!

Maybe you are just attending a Spring party and not hosting one? We have you covered – in-stead of that boring bottle of wine or bouquet of flowers bring a creative and unique give your host will love. Here’s what we included…

  • Marble bowl: Instead of gift wrap or a bag why not give your gift in a serving bowl? We picked marble because who can resist? But a wood serving bowl would work just as well!
  • Fun and seasonal kitchen towels: Lemon prints are in-season and on-trend and a great Spring kitchen refresh
  • Lemongrass ginger countertop spray: We loved the smell of this spray, so refreshing!
  • Wood spoon and spatula: a kitchen can never have too many!
  • Marble muddler: Your host will never know how much she needed one of these until she has one, be the one to introduce her to this wonderful kitchen must-have!
  • Lemon candy: A little something to enjoy after the guests leave.
  • We also added some fresh citrus fruit to the bowl to add even more color

How to Throw a Shower Everyone (and we mean everyone) Will Adore

It’s hard to put into words how much I love this shower. It’s just so good. Starting with that pretty, pretty tablescape, moving to the spoon wall backdrop, the cake and donuts and the fun BABY balloons too, this celebration with florals by Ezai Floral Design has a little bit of everything. So whether you’re a sweets lover, a design lover or a lover of a great party, this vault of images by Katie Jackson Photography is about to be your new fave.

When my husband and I found out I was pregnant with our first baby the day of our 5 year anniversary, we were so thrilled! We couldn’t wait to celebrate with loved ones our soon-to-be arrival and the baby shower was a great opportunity for us to express our own style. I definitely knew I wanted something modern and not quite your typical“baby shower”, while still tying in traditional elements.

My baby shower was going to be in the late winter, so I thought fusing modern elements with a rustic theme would be a fun twist, and a romantic color palette of burgundy, pink, white and gold accents would be fitting since we would be celebrating right around Valentines Day.

Knowing that the backdrop was going to be a focal point, we started our search for the perfect venue first. The impeccably designed Stage and Table located in Santa Monica, set the ambiance for the baby shower.

It’s modern loft space with rustic, eclectic touches truly fit exactly what we had hoped to find. From the wall of wooden cooking spoons which was the perfect backdrop for a dessert table to the cozy outdoor space, they already had so many wonderful details that fitted our vision.

From that point, the venue really provided the spring board for all the other elements. My favorite details were the DIY projects our family helped us with. My mother-in-law helped design the “S’more Love” favor tags and my husband’s brother and sister-in-law, both being artists, hand designed all our signage! Our beautiful cake was crafted by The Buttered End Cakery. I supplied them with a few inspiration photos and they re-created the most delicious “naked” cake with a gorgeous fruit garnish tying into our modern/rustic theme.

Sidecar Doughnuts, which is conveniently located in the same building as the venue, provided the scrumptious doughnuts, all of which were displayed on our own vintage cake stands. The tables were adorned with gold plates, tall white candles, maroon stripped cloth napkins, and of course lovely florals.

The immensely talented Yen from Ezai Floral Design created the gorgeous garlands and floral pieces using lots of dark leafy greens and clusters of rich burgundy flowers with blush pink and white flowers. The floral arrangements added the perfect touch and tied everything together beautifully.

We had an incredible afternoon celebrating our daughter and we are so very grateful to our friends and family for making the day so special for us. I’m also thankful for my amazing photographer, Katie Jackson, for capturing all the memorable moments that we’ll treasure for a lifetime.
