This Bohemian Home was Inspired by One of Our Favorite Blockbusters

For these homeowners, building their dream home meant really honing in on their vision. The end result looks a little like the classic Father of the Bride abode (which let’s be honest is one of the best movie homes ever) meets bohemian, eclectic details. Things picked up on travels, gorgeous family photographs and cozy layers can all be found in this winning combo captured by Daphne Mae.

After planning this home of ours for over three years, we couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate such a thrilling change in our lives than with photos. We chose a traditional floorpan with a large foyer, complete with a rounded staircase, stone cast fireplace, and a white kitchen.

I always wanted our home to feel very, ‘Father & the Bride’ with a twist of Modern Boho, if thats even a thing.

I always wanted our home to be traditional with a twist of modern eclectic. I love the look and feel of a home well lived in, something that has collected memories from places and time.

We’ve incorporated things that my Husband and I have picked up on our travels, as well as, things we’ve simply had forever but still love.

Beyond that, to have a welcoming home, one that just kind of hugs you when you walk in was our main goal. We’re in the season of life where dirty floors and little visitors are the norm, so keeping it a place that is relatable and reflects our lifestyle was also huge.

A Gender Neutral Nursery with the Prettiest Wallpaper Backdrop

My new favorite nursery design choice? Wallpaper. We’re seeing it in sweet spaces for little ones time and again, and it’s such a fun way to make baby’s space truly unique. Case in point? This dreamy nursery designed by Lark & Linen for Sarah Lane, complete with a kitty hamper, plush buddies and a mirror that I want for myself! See more captured by Heidi Lau right here in The Vault!

From Lark & LinenDesigning nurseries has quickly become my absolute favourite thing to do. Being able to create a soft and serene space for a baby boy or girl to-be, knowing full-well that it’s where they’ll be forming some of their earliest memories, is a pleasure I can’t begin to describe.

So when my friend Sarah hired me to do hers, despite a particularly hectic schedule, I couldn’t say yes quickly enough. With the sex of baby E a surprise from the start, we began with a gender neutral nursery design, with plans to infuse more feminine or masculine elements when baby made his or her debut.

We used the fabulous flamingo print wallpaper as a jumping off point, and kept everything else soft, simple, and elegant, so it could really shine. With a palette of soft greys, subtle blues, whites and creams we ended up with a lovely space, perfect for him OR her.

I’m thrilled to announce that Baby E has since arrived, and I’ve been told that she (squee!) is already enjoying her sweet little space immensely. For a full list of credits and sources, head on over to my blog, Lark & Linen.

See how Jillian Harris is Celebrating Baby with this Gorg Garden Shower

Jillian Harris has searched for love on the Bachelorette, whipped up gorgeous spaces as an Interior design maven and now she can add chic mama to that list. With the help of Monika HibbsAly Armstrong and Shay Merrit, they crafted a celebration for a sweet little baby on the way. It’s a gorgeous garden party with a dreamy white dress code, loads of dessert and a Kaitlyn Bristowe sighting too. See the full shindig captured by Blush Wedding Photography right here in the VAULT.

The baby shower was hosted by Monika Hibbs (friend & Lifestyle Blogger), Aly Armstrong (Event Planner), & Shay Merritt (Jillian’s assistant).

“Oh BABY! Oh JILLIAN! If you know her, then you LOVE her and know she’s nothing short of loving, welcoming, hilarious, generous, fun (super fun) and beyond sweet. Planning and thinking about a baby shower for her sweet bean on the way, we knew we had to include all the above to compliment her amazing personality and friendship. Shay (Jillian’s Manager of all things Jillian) and I wanted to shower and spoil Jillian, because truly her hard working and big heart was over deserving of a special day to celebrate her becoming a mommy! With big ideas already on our minds, we knew we couldn’t do it alone. I asked my talented friend Aly Armstrong of Aly Armstrong Event Planning & Design to help us bring it to life. We bounced off each other with such creative ideas, making it come together better than we imagined.” – Monika

Jillian’s shower was hosted at a private residence in West Vancouver (but available to rent through Airbnb!). With the mountains in the distance, the amazing home boasts beautiful water frontage on a private lake.

“I knew I wanted to use the white large garden parasols for an upcoming event from The Cross Décor & Design the moment I saw them in store. Jillian’s shower was the perfect occasion; they really inspired the rest of the theme and design of the shower, not only that but they added to the wow factor as guests walked in”. – Monika

“Flowers are very important when setting the mood and theme, especially when designing an event. We knew that Gloria from The Flower Factory was the perfect person to collaborate with. She really went above and beyond. We did all white floral on the tablescape accented by green ruscus. We added pops of blush on the macramé teepees (one large and one baby) and the rowboat photo station; both of these areas served to be a cozy spot for guests and provided them with detailed backdrops for their personal photos.” – Aly

“Jillian loves gardening, so as a takeaway for guests, we created a “Jilly’s Bean” station where guests could plant their own bean to take home and grow, and then guess the gender of Jillian’s baby by inserting a “girl” or “boy” topper by local company, Confetti & Co. I just love that we included one of Jill’s hobbies into the theme of the shower; it made it so personal that way.” – Monika

“We also really wanted to create an intimate luncheon vs. cocktail style. To achieve this, we did a long-table set-up with the white flowing parasols lining the table. The tulle fabric draped around the table made for a magical touch. For lunch, we had custom cedar boxes made by Woodpak Industries Inc. and filled them with delicious goodies and takeaways.” – Aly

The boxed lunch included the following items:
● An artisan sandwich and cheesecake in a jar provided by Truffles Fine Foods
● Limited edition Laduree Baby Shower boxes with custom macarons
● A Vancouver Candle Co. candle
● Almond Mylk from the Juicery Co.
● Flowers
● Teether (used to clip guest place cards)
● Vonbon burp cloth (in lieu of napkin)

“Because we were hosting an event in celebration of the arrival of Jillian’s sweet baby, I wanted to include touches of my favourite local baby items in the decor. I came up with the idea of wrapping the flatware in organic baby burp cloths (aka napkins) by Vonbon Apparel and clipped guests’ nametags using Loulou Lollipop soother clips. Such a playful touch and guests appreciated the extra little creative detail.” -Monika

“Since we decided to have mini cakes placed down the table, we wanted guests to elegantly dig into them! I found the cutest antique custom forks from an Etsy shop- Rebekah’s Valentine. They were perfectly fitting, adding that vintage flair that Jillian loves. Each guest received a fork saying “eat cake” & a very special fork that read “eating for two” was made for Jillian. Also a sentimental gift for each guest to take home.” – Monika

In addition to the yummy goodies on the table, we had an ice-cream cart stationed to hand out ice cream by the scoop or in mini cones.
