I’ve been reading Gal Meets Glam, for years now and have watched her grow leaps and bounds lately. Not only is she one of the best dressed woman I know, but she’s got a heart the size of her audience (read: huge!) She’s incredibly sweet, incredibly talented, and she’s sharing all her blogging secrets with us today. With photos from Monica Wang, we’ll be back later with a full home tour to boot!
SMP: What was the final push that made you want to start a blog?
It’s funny because I had never followed or read a single blog before starting mine, so there was really no “final push”. I wanted to create a place where I could share things I loved and found blogger. From there, I discovered the whole blogging world! I guess it was better that way because I had nothing holding me back, I just did it.
SMP: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a blogger just starting out?
If you have something to say and something to share, just do it!
SMP: Gal Meets Glam has grown leaps and bounds in a rather short amount of time, what’s your secret to success?
It’s been about 3 years now and I would just say time, consistency and hard work. Nothing happens overnight and there was never a moment where all of the sudden I had a following. It was baby steps and the fact that I loved creating and sharing- that’s what kept me going even when my mom and girlfriends were my only readers.
SMP: Do you have any tips or tricks for working with brands?
Don’t be afraid to come up with creative ideas or something different. Most of the time, brands are looking for original content, but not all of them have the manpower to constantly be thinking about blog collaborations.
SMP: What advice would you give to someone hoping to monetize their blog?
If you want to start monetizing your blog, you have to start thinking of it as a business and not just a hobby. Do research, talk to friends or others in the industry and see what will work best for you.
SMP: What’s the hardest lesson in business you’ve ever learnt?
Managing myself and holding myself accountable. I don’t have a “boss”, so I have to hold myself to higher standards than most people would.
SMP: What’s a typical work day look like for you?
There is really no “typical day”. Each day is really different, whether I’m in a shoot all day, answer emails and phone calls, going into brand meetings or traveling for work. I love that I don’t have a typical 9-5 day job, but it can get hard managing when to take time off and when to stop working. I work pretty much every weekend with my husband, but it doesn’t always feel like work because I love it!
SMP: Your most prized possession?
My wedding and engagement ring
SMP: Your top three beauty must-haves?
bareMinerals lash domination, bareMinerals original foundation and all of the Arcona beauty products
SMP: And lastly, If you could buy yourself a gift of any cost, what would it be?
A trip around the world with my husband, of course!
