Not only is Jess Lively one of the most inspiring women on the face of the planet (I mean, just take a look at her behind the blog interview and you’ll see just what I mean), she’s also the most talented. One peek at her stunning apartment, as seen through the lens of Yazy Jo, and I’m certain you’ll agree. Need more? Have no fear, it’s all right here!
The apartment has a very open floor plan. Right when you walk in the front door you see the living room, dining area, and kitchen. Because of the long wall of exposed brick, I wanted to keep things pretty neutral overall in the space. But, after going grey on grey for almost everything, I decided to add some pops of coral to add interest. The coral armchair is a Craigslist makeover that adds a bit more personality to the space. And because I do a lot of work in the living room, I have my thrifted marble farmhouse table tucked behind my couch. It make a great sofa table when I’m not working, acts as a mini office during the workweek.
The dining table is an Ikea base paired with a custom wood table top we had custom made. I loved the clean lines and style of the base, but Mr. Lively insisted on getting rid of the glass top. Now, it’s a nice modern-rustic vibe.
We have a small patio (a luxury in Chicago!) and we took advantage of the mini outdoor space as much as possible. An outdoor area rug makes the space feel like an extension of the living room. And the cozy Ikea chairs are the perfect place to spend time in the warmer months and are tough enough to handle brutal Chicago winters. Off to the side we also squeezed in a little four person table and chairs, again, all purchased at Ikea.
I wanted the master bedroom (if you can call it that, it is less than a 10′x12′ room) to feel like a French boutique hotel room. I picked a palette of gold, white, black, and blue. The custom blue velvet curtains make a bold statement as does the gold and white Hygge and West wallpaper designed by Oh Joy. Using wallpaper on the headboard wall makes a huge impact when you walk in. And it helps your eye see the whole wall… making makes the room seem bigger than it really is.
The Ikea dresser was from Mr. Lively’s bachelor days which we updated with gold drawer pulls.
The master bathroom also has a French feel to it as well. Photos of Paris and vintage glassware help make an otherwise basic bathroom feel special.
The guest bedroom is definitely one of my favorite spaces in the apartment. I decided to keep the room mostly white with hits of pink and blue. Though each piece of furniture in that space doesn’t necessarily come form the same era, I love each and every one of them and feel like it is slightly eclectic, but totally me at the same time. Because the colors match so well with my website, I like to joke that the room feels like the physical extension of my blog, JessLively.com.
The side tables, dresser, and desk are all thrifted items with a fresh coat of paint. Each one is slightly different, but the white and gold theme ties them together.
