As we go into our snowy weekend, I am craving those easy Summer days where backyard entertaining took center stage. So if you’re lucky enough to live in a place where a day like this – an engagement party actually – is totally doable then I’m officially jealous. If not, bookmark this bit of pretty from The One Day House, as you’ll want to use it as inspiration when the days warm up a bit.
From The One Day House…I am a stylist, florist, have a hire company and I am also a calligrapher. It’s a lot of things and I hope that Jack of all trades but master of none really doesn’t apply! After being involved in hundreds of weddings over the years, this year it’s my turn. My fiance and I had our engagement party last year on his parents gorgeous acreage property. We didn’t want something over the top and we didn’t want something that was really casual. So we set up our small marquee which is perfect for this sort of thing and our furniture, strung some cafe lights and away we went.
I love colour, and coral charm peonies were in season so I took these as my cues for starting on the whole look. And what looks better with coral than mint?! I found some amazing fabrics on Spoonflower and made these into cushions. I also really wanted to have flowers overflowing from hammered copper vases but these were nearly impossible to find, and when I did find some they were really pricey. So I bought some copper sheets from a local art store and hammered them myself, then glued them into a cylinder shape.
I hand wrote a design for the invitations and had these printed using a trellis design on the back to match in with one of the cushions (and watercoloured the effect to match in with some of the others too). And finally, I made sure the table setting was relatively relaxed and incorporated a great printed runner. We had such a great night, even though it did rain, well actually it even hailed a little bit, and now I can’t wait for the wedding!
