Some of you may know already but I’m officially pregnant. Really pregnant. With my THIRD baby. And this third baby – who I am simultaneously elated by and freaking out over – just happens to be a baby girl. And I love me some baby girls. So when I spotted this shower – donned in pink from head to toe – planned for another mommy of three by Elle Designs, well, my heart did a little pitter patter.
From Elle at Elle Event Design…As you may know, typically, a baby shower is given for the first baby of an expecting woman. Sometimes, depending on the family and friends, a sprinkle is thrown for a woman giving birth to her second child. So you may ask why did this wedding planner throw a sprinkle for a woman expecting her 3rd child? Well, let me explain…
My relationship with Gina started when I met my husband; at first she was his pretty, blonde, somewhat intimidating sister. The more I learned about her, the more I realized how sweet, creative and artistic she was. When my company started expanding, I asked her to help out in design and coordination assistance at my photo shoots, events and weddings. It went from her attending a few weddings or events, to by my side at almost all of them. When Gina called me 9 months ago, hiding in her bathroom with a positive pregnancy test in her hand, I knew right away I wanted to throw her something special! As the godmother of her soon-to-be new baby girl, I wanted it to be a memory we could look back on with smiles and laughter.
I started planning an elegant, but very intimate soiree of 18 close family and friends. I wanted it to be held at my design studio downtown. Elle Designs studio is a historic house with exposed brick walls, who-knows-how-old dark hardwood floors, and a quaint back patio and it would fit the day perfectly. I have never been a “theme-y” designer, but I decided on one with daintiness and elegance: a French inspired day! The palette was, of course, pink for her baby girl and also gold; this is because her favorite linens from weddings we have done were the sequin, chevron of white & gold. Boxwood garland draped the entrance, the back patio and inside at the table, so emerald green played a sweet part of the day as well.
The invitations were handwritten by a calligrapher on blush paper with gold ink, as well as a sign that read, “Bonjour Baby!” hanging on the brick wall above her chair. The studio’s furniture was cleared out and in came gold chiavari chairs, sparkling linens, gold flatware, a French drink bar, boxwood garland and a patisserie. Each place setting had a lace napkin with a lyric I had printed on it that read, “Mary had a little lamb.” On top of each napkin were the favors: a set of letterpress note-cards. Each set had the phrases: ooh la la, bonjour, and merci beaucoup letter-pressed on them in pastel pink. Gold flatware, lion head bowls filled with strawberry & raspberry soup, pink wine goblets and Louis water goblets completed each setting. The dessert table had macaroons and 3 cakes with a customized, mirrored sign that read, “Patisserie.” The cakes were butter-cream in ivory with pink and green sugar detail on each. The banner read, “Yaye Gina!”.
The guests smiled, nibbled, sipped and we all shared laughs. We opened her gifts at our seats and after played a fun game that left everyone laughing in tears. It was so wonderful to see someone so deserving filled with so much happiness!
