Alright, can we just take a moment to soak in this adorable bachelorette pad? Alaina’s home is absolutely picturesque and it’s taking all my might not to pack my bags and beg to move right in. We recently had the chance to catch up with one half of the talented duo behind the popular The Everygirl, and I have no doubt you’ll eat up all of Alaina’s fabulous advice below. Per usual, see more pretty right here in the gallery.
SMP: Words you live by?
AK: “Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw
SMP: What did you think your dream job was before your dream job found you?
For a long time my dream was to be a features editor at Vanity Fair.
SMP: Favorite quote that describes your creative process/ live by?
“Write drunk; edit sober.” – Hemingway
SMP: If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?
The message would be that life’s too short to be unhappy. Be good to yourself. Find work you’re passionate about because you’re going to spend a good chunk of your life doing it. Be good to the people you love and the people you don’t. And never stop believing in yourself. Hopefully we are getting that message across with The Everygirl.
SMP: If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?
I’d like to think nothing, but realistically, I wish I would have learned web programming at some point.
SMP: What is one piece of advice you would give a blogger just starting out?
Blog every day. Consistency is key, especially in the beginning.
SMP: What is your favorite item in your home?
My English roll arm sofa–not only is it my favorite style, it’s extra long and extra comfortable.
SMP: What’s your best tip for balancing work and personal life?
Put the phone away. Silence it. Hide it. Do whatever it takes! Give your attention to the people you’re with.
SMP: What was the tipping point in your business that made you feel like your blog was going to thrive?
First it was Wedding Week– we were able to line up so many amazing features, including Abby Larson, Lisa Vorce, Mindy Weiss, Camille Styles, Cassandra LaValle, Anne Book, and more. But then we were featured on Forbes as a Top 10 Website for Millennial Women and Top 100 Website for Women, and that really took the cake as a major milestone for the site.
SMP: What is the hardest lesson in business you’ve ever learned?
SMP: Stranded on a desert island question…what’s the one cocktail you would take with you?
A mojito! Wine is my drink of choice, but mojitos sound much better for island living.
SMP: Color that will stand the test of trend time.
SMP: One thing every style savvy homeowner should have?
Everyone should have an unconventional item on display that sparks conversation and more importantly, makes you smile. Mine is my disco ball.
SMP: If you could buy yourself a single gift of any cost, what would it be?
A fabulous trip to Paris: best restaurants, hotel, wine tasting–the whole shebang!
