I remember the moment this lovely vow renewal came across my desk. Concept-A Photography‘s beautiful shots are always so easily embedded into my mind. Set at the picture perfect River House At Lowndes Grove Plantation in Charleston, the classic details of this day (hello navy, sweet pinks and stripes!) are what my wedding dreams are made of. From the beautiful Bride… Patrick and I were college sweethearts and married shortly after graduation. We decided to renew our wedding vows after he finished his pilot training and just before I graduated from law school. We wanted a small, intimate affair and chose Charleston for our destination because we both love South Carolina, which is my home state. We chose the River House at Lowndes Grove Plantation because of the breathtaking grounds situated on the Ashley River, as well as the lovely architecture.
I chose navy, pink, and white for our color palette because it is both masculine—incorporating the navy in Patrick’s dress uniform—and feminine—the pink and white. Because his uniform was tailored with clean, distinctive lines, I chose a gown that would compliment it, opting for a classic sweetheart neckline with pleated detail and navy heels as my “something blue”. We walked down the isle together to Vivaldi’s Winter from Four Seasons played beautifully by The Charleston Virtuosi. My dad officiated the ceremony, making it that much more special. Guests kept cool with sweet grass fans placed on each seat.
During the cocktail hour, guests strolled around the grounds and out onto the dock, and waiters passed mini lobster pot pies, caramelized onion & bleu cheese tomato tarts, gruyere cheese & leek tarts, and sweet potato biscuits filled with ham & gouda cheese. For dinner, guests ate shrimp and gouda cheese grits, Cuban spice rubbed pork tenderloin with mango chutney, buffalo marinated chicken breasts with blue cheese, and grilled watermelon, pineapple and corn on the cob. For dessert, I wanted something refreshing on a hot summer night, so I chose lemon cake filled with lemon curd and vanilla buttercream frosting. The cake was adorned with buttercream hydrangeas and roses, which were the flowers used in my bouquet and centerpieces, along with oriental lilies for fragrance. We also filled apothecary jars with some of our favorite candies: salt water taffy, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and of course, Charleston Chews.
The evening was delightfully memorable and Rich and Megan from Concept-A Photography captured every moment artfully.
