The reason I love winter weddings isn’t because I particularly like being cold. No, the reason lies in the coziness that is inside on a cold winter day. Candles to warm my heart, sweaters to warm my bones. And when a wedding combines all of that plus a beautiful couple, stunning blooms from The Flower Factory, and a design to match a la Filosophi Events… well that’s a gallery (from Gucio Photography) I want to spend a few hours in.

From the stunning bride… I look forward to BC’s winter every year for its crisp cool air, gorgeous bare branches and warm winter sunlight. We wanted the style of our wedding to be a true representation of ourselves and so naturally we felt it would be the perfect season for our day. We contemplated wedding in the snow, but in the interest of our loved ones and out of respect for my healthy fear of freezing temperatures, we opted for a ceremony in a cozy candlelit courtyard nestled between two buildings in the centre of Vancouver’s Yaletown. We agreed that we wanted the venue and style to set an intimate and romantic tone and Brix reflected that vision perfectly.

Wanting the freedom to celebrate the day with our family and our guests, we knew that hiring a day of coordinator was essential. Erin of Filosphi Events exceeded all our expectations, artfully transforming the space into an enchanting vision and seamlessly overseeing every detail of the evening. Soft candlelight, a twinkling chandelier and an alluring violin and guitar duo set a majestic atmosphere for the ceremony. Our colours were held together by muted gold, warm ivory and rich navy blue. We wanted to highlight the industrial charm of the exposed brick and bring the evening starry sky indoors for the reception. The mirrors adorning the brick walls inside the restaurant glowed with the reflection of candlelight and collections of soft winter white flowers held by gold and silver vases. It was important to us that the night feel very personal and so are incredibly grateful to the village of friends and family that were willing to get involved on the DIY projects. My mother-in-law collected the brass candelabras from antique shops and did the calligraphy, my sister-in-law made the wedding cake, my dad designed the wish tree, my aunts stocked the dessert buffet, my sister created the seating chart, table numbers and place cards, close friends and bridesmaids put together the favours and bunting and my mother sewed the head table linens and was instrumental in the planning process. Having our friends and family so involved in the process made it very special. As the celebration wound down, the night was brought to a close with a bittersweet sparkler exit.

Anna and Kasia of Gucio Photography did an incredible job of capturing the day beautifully. Their sincere warmth and skillful unobtrusive presence allowed them to eternalize moments of genuine joy and love that we will cherish for years to come. They, along with our dream team of other vendors, were a joy to work with and we cannot thank all of them enough!
