When this pretty dose of rustic goodness found it’s way into my inbox, my love for farm weddings was bumped up a few solid notches. I can’t help but attribute that to the invitations designed by Shindig, complete with a nod to the couple’s very own farm and all of it’s unrefined beauty. Keep reading for the inspiration behind it all and more loveliness from Lora Reehling Photography in the gallery!
From Shindig Bespoke… Katie & Justin met at Emory University where she studied astrophysics. The couple’s home, Brandybend Farm, a sprawling, picture perfect acreage in West Chester, Pennsylvania served as the venue for their wedding. The property came complete with a run down barn they spruced up in the nick of time to house the ceremony and cocktail hour for the celebration. Together the bride and groom raise race horses, a longtime family business for Justin. They are both bourbon connoisseurs. She loves rich textiles, dogs, elephants, and, of course, brontosauruses. All of these factors and not one less became the inspiration for their wedding style.
For inspiration, Katie shared some photos of her property. Among them were beautiful shots of the doors—front door, shed door, barn doors, in varying deep hues of green, red and brown. In keeping with the idea that Katie and Justin were welcoming guests into their home the visual theme for the invitation quickly became clear. A black, gold and blush color palette was complimented by the backdrop of their farm as the setting. The invitation suite reflects the venue’s rustic setting and the Autumn season, but also conveys the dramatic elegance of a literal “starry night” affair.
The back of each card in the suite bears a different door, while the front features the text and keyhole graphic – A “peek inside” at the information! Adding a formal touch, scripted initials were foiled on the back of the main card. For the intimate rehearsal dinner gold lock and key with dangling burgundy tassel was used. The cards were tied together with vintage silk ribbon in eggplant. The ceremony program was designed with the door theme in mind, but with a more whimsical edge. The covers are hand drawn barn doors that closed and “lock” in the center with a black and gold cord.
The dinner menu features a black book cover stamped in gold with a horseshoe for luck on the front. Katie DIY’d her table numbers and escort cards. She also provided the photography for the printed pieces. The motif on the cake by Whipped Bakeshop was inspired by the pattern on the ceremony aisle runner. The reception took place in a green house that was constructed inside a horse training ring on the property, with lush forest ferns and succulents serving as the floral decoration.
The full list of custom services provided included the invitation suite, “paperless” emailed Friday night dessert and drinks invitation, custom icons including monogram, horseshoe, and dinosaur made into rubber stamps, specialty cocktail menu and bourbon bar menu, dinner menu, favor bag stickers and the thank you notes.
