This one is straight out of a movie, my loves. Kimberly Kay Photography sent us a love story worthy of the big screen, even staring a set of high school sweethearts as the leading couple. It’s won over every heart here at the SMP offices, and after a peek at the gallery, I’m sure it’ll win yours too.
From the photographer… Lauren & Jake chose Charleston, South Carolina to say their “I do’s” the perfect destination wedding. A stunning city of amazing beauty, and rich history. It is not hard to see why so many choose Charleston to have their weddings. We joined them at The Inn at Middleton Place. The Inn adjoins the gardens at Middleton Place, a rice plantation laid out in 1741. Members of the Middleton family include Henry who was President of the First Continental Congress, and Arthur who was a signer of Declaration of Independence. The manicured lawns, formal gardens, moss draped live oaks and ponds filled with alligators are a wedding photographers dream. Everywhere we turned we saw another beautiful photograph. We speak so often about the adrenalin rush we see on our clients faces, I wonder if Lauren and Jake could see how excited we were? The wedding was held just a short distance away at Magnolia Plantation, another of the historical plantations found in South Carolina’s lowc ountry. They chose to have the ceremony on the Pond Lawn overlooking the Ashley River. It was perfect in every way. The guests were entertained by porpoise’s swimming with alligators in the river while a cacophony of tree frogs sang from their roosts. A single acoustic guitarist serenaded the guests to “Carolina in My Mind” while they retreated to the cocktail hour in The Conservatory. Lauren had created a splendid setting in The Conservatory for all of the guests to enjoy. It was magical. Every detail was carefully planned. The tables were amazingly decorated. The guests danced into the night to sounds of the Unkle Funkle band. When the festivities were over the newlyweds exited through a tunnel of sparklers. With one last surprise Jake whisked his bride away in a 1961 Rolls Royce Phantom V limousine, originally purchased by Queen Elizabeth for her representative to Rome. We want to say thank you so much to Lauren and Jake for choosing us to capture their love story and for hosting our trip to the South.
From the beautiful bride… Jake and I met in high school actually. Growing up my family didn’t stay in one place longer than a couple years, we moved eight times within and outside of the country. When I was about 3/4 way through my freshmen year of high school my father told us we were moving to Omaha, Nebraska. Looking back I remember thinking that there was going to be no way I was going to like it in this Midwest town, that obviously all changed when I met my Nebraskan grown husband in the school cafeteria. After high school I went away to Charleston, SC for college at which I only lasted one semester as I couldn’t be away from Jake any longer. After moving back to be with him, which I can honestly say was the best decision I have made in my life thus far, we have spent close to everyday together as we truly are the best of friends. I know they say opposites attract but Jake and I are far from opposites but instead are very similar, we both tend to be quiet, easy going, and find joy in the simpler things. After seven years of knowing each other and five years of being in a relationship we truly have grown up together and luckily continue to bring out the best in each other. The best thing about marrying my high school sweetheart is that he truly knows everything there is to know about me, whether I like it or not!
