We all have the one couple in our lives who is full of life, love, and joy, can make friends with everyone, and spread their happiness to everyone they meet. They make us all a little giddier with the love that pours out of them. This couple, I’m sure, is that couple. Their wedding, captured perfectly in this highlight film from Creative Films, is absolute proof that sometimes all you need to brighten your day is two people, head over heels in love.

Our first encounter was on a float (canoe) trip in the summer of 2004. A chance meeting in the woods of Southern Missouri, coupled with another coincidental meeting 3 years later in a seedy bar in downtown Chicago on a Tuesday after work, kicked off what culminated 5 years later on September, 1st 2012. We have our great friends to thank for leading us to each other on two separate occasions. A mutual love for not taking a whole lot serious made us realize that we were about the only thing either of us took seriously.

The proposal happened in Chicago after long a walk through the downtown parks with a camera. Searching for, and not finding, the right moment, we wound up back at our apartment where Matt got down on one knee as we were sharing a glass of wine on the balcony. Matt and I decided that we were going to keep it a secret from our family and friends and enjoy the time to ourselves, just for one day.

After the longest work day of both of our lives, we walked back into the apartment where, my parents, Matt’s parents, and my brother and his girlfriend greeted us. As the relief of keeping this secret from my Mom washed away, tears of joy took their place. A few cocktails and an underachieving air conditioner allowed us to share the moment with our families where the proposal had happened the night before. A wonderful dinner followed at an Italian restaurant up the street and another surprise reception was held after dinner, with all of our friends in attendance.

Matt and I are both from the Kansas City area and we knew that Kansas City was the place to get married. Our friends and family were coming from all over the country, so what better place than the middle of the US! We chose Dan Meiner’s Pennway Place because it was a perfect compliment to what we wanted as our wedding theme to be – comfortable, classic and simplistic.

Our day was amazing— it went too fast! Even though the remnants of Hurricane Issac made it’s way through Kansas City, the clouds parted right as our ceremony started. We were left with amazing lighting for our extremely talented videographers and photographers. It was so nice to have all our family and friends gathered around us and seeing them having fun. Our goal was to have a wedding that was fun. As you can see through the video, we had a lot of it.
