I am fully aware that it is April. Almost one full week into April. And that many of us are dreaming of summer weddings, dancing under the stars and amongst lightning bugs. But when a Christmas wedding this phenomenal lands in my lap, I can’t wait 264 days to share it, especially when Details Weddings & Events AND Tanarah Luxe Floral & Event Designs were some of the amazing vendors behind the pretty. And because of the GORG images from Beaty Photography, I’m sure we’re all going to be singing a little Chestnuts Roasting this afternoon. Click here for more!
Casey and I first met in junior high. We started to get to know each other when we competed together on the high school track team. Our first date was just a few days after his high school graduation. We have always enjoyed exploring the outdoors together. One of our favorite things to do is to hike. During the fall break of my junior year of college, a few of my girl friends and I had planned a hiking trip at Devil’s Den in Northwest Arkansas. Little did I know, Casey had organized the trip with my friends and was planning on proposing when I made it to the top of the mountain. He had gone up to the top earlier in the day to wait for us. When we got there, one of my friends told me to go over and stand on a nearby cliff so she could take a picture. As I neared the cliff, Casey appeared from behind a tree and led me out to the edge where he popped the question. I was completely shocked! It was perfect.
We decided to have the wedding at the church I grew up in. The building holds special memories for me, and we wanted to add to them by starting our new life together there. It is also a beautiful place to be during Christmas time. Since our wedding was in December, we embraced the Christmas season, my favorite time of year. Candle light and lots of evergreens were a must. I wanted all of our guests to feel like they were at a cozy and intimate Christmas party.
A couple of my favorite touches in the wedding had to do with my attire. The mink stole I wore was my great grandmother’s, and lace from my mother’s wedding was attached to my bouquet. It was very special to be able to carry these family treasures with me on my wedding day.
Right before the ceremony, my dad came into the room where my bridesmaids and I were waiting. As he began to thank my friends for their love and influence in my life, he began to cry. I can count on one hand the times I have seen him cry. Needless to say, I broke into tears as well which had a domino effect on my mom and others in the room. It was a lovely and unique moment of reflection on the past and joyful anticipation of the future that I will never forget.
