You know Frank Sinatra’s Just The Way You Look Tonight? This wedding has had me humming that song over and over since I first laid eyes on it’s pretty factor. It’s lovely. From the smiles so warm to the cheeks so soft, everything is just lovely. 2Chic Events & Design were the talented team behind the planning and design, and teamed up with True Love Photo, the result is truly musical!

You won’t want to miss the highlights from LoveSpun Films. It’s like the Director’s Cut of this soiree!

Being that Jim and I both grew up in the Sacramento area and many of our wedding guests were local, we knew that we wanted a unique venue if we were to have our wedding in Sacramento. The idea came up of having our wedding at the Crocker Art Museum, which had recently undergone a large expansion. When we went to visit the venue, we fell in love with the modern, clean lines and loved the idea of having our ceremony and cocktail hour in the outdoor courtyard of the museum, flanked by the walls of the old and new buildings. We both love the color gray and wanted to utilize the stark white of the modern Crocker building. Thus we decided to keep to a very modern, contemporary motif and had a color palate of only black, white, and gray.

For our ceremony, we aligned the chairs in a curved pattern, outlined by tall birch trees that had various orchids and white roses attached onto the branches. Our wedding planner Aimee, surprised us with a beautiful curved pattern in the middle of the aisle way made of rose petals. Jim’s oldest friend from high school married us surrounded by four birch trees and strings of orchids. For our reception we utilized the indoor Friedman Court, which had various art pieces on display. Each place setting had a special menu/reception program written by us, which highlighted significant aspects of the night that were important to us. And our logo, which had been on every printed material from the save the dates to the invitations to the programs, was displayed on our dance floor.

Given that our wedding was black tie optional and held at a museum, we wanted to ensure the wedding was not too stiff and had a personal touch. Being that family and culture are very important to both of us, we wanted our guests to experience various aspects of our heritage. During cocktail hour, we surprised guests with a traditional Chinese Lion Dance with drum percussion and entered the courtyard surrounded by six Chinese lions. The lion dance group performed for all of our guests and introduced color to our monochromatic wedding. During cocktail hour, one of our signature drinks, Big Red, was served in honor of our alma mater, Cornell University. Although we did not meet in college, it was our connection to the local Cornell alumni group in Sacramento that allowed us to meet. After dinner, Jim’s two cousins and one of his childhood friends entertained guests with Portuguese Fado singing, which is a classical form of singing that is both romantic and dramatic in nature. We also served Portuguese cheese and bread earlier in the evening and supplemented our gray wedding cake with an assorted collection of Portuguese desserts, homemade by a few of Jim’s aunts. We even had a visit from Dumb and Dumber (i.e. Jim’s brothers) who dressed up in blue and orange suits and took the meaning of black tie “optional” literally. They completely surprised us with a little dance routine prior to their heartfelt speeches. It definitely was the comedic act of the night.

In the end, it was so amazing to see all the various aspects of our wedding come together. Jim had such a good eye for things and was so involved throughout the entire wedding process that our wedding was truly a labor of love of the both of us. We were so thankful to have all our friends and family together to celebrate with us.
