Yesterday was all about bold and beautiful colors used in some of the most dynamic weddings from our Little Black Book team! And there are just too many more to share with you to stop now. So ~ today, we continue the joys of knock-your-socks-off … COLOR!

From the ultra-talented R. Jack Balthazar

Designers Notes: An architecturally significant home (formerly owned by Frank Sinatra), a stylish bride and an overall retro-chic sensibility… inspired by the patterns of vintage Pucci scarves and the colors of vintage glass swag lamps… in a vivid palette of poppy, tomato, and lime. Seating was an inspired mix of retro pillows, daybeds, ottomans and chairs. The escort assignments were printed on vintage postcards of historical Palm Springs homes.

Brides Notes: Our personal style was apparent throughout the wedding. I’ve always been known for my love of bright colors and my husband works in film, so echoing the vintage Palm Springs / Hollywood aesthetic made sense. We’re very into food and wine, so both were central to the celebration as well. Luckily my maid of honor’s mother is an incredible caterer who created a beautiful menu for the day. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we had the most gorgeous cake made from wheels of cheese. It was adorned with a vintage wedding cake topper that I found on eBay.

We examined every part of a traditional wedding ceremony and questioned whether it held any meaning for us. If it didn’t, we didn’t include it. For me, having my father give me away was an important moment that I had been imagining since I was a little girl. So we kept that, but otherwise we really got creative. My father and I entered to my nephew playing Bob Dylan’s “Sara” on guitar with my friend Shauna on vocals. My husband is half Scottish so we incorporated a celtic handfasting ritual into the ceremony. Our officiant’s speech was made up of lyrics from our 10 favorite songs, culminating in a final thought from The Notorious B.I.G that had everyone dying laughing. We left the ceremony to The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” played on the harp.

At the end of the night we didn’t make a grand exit, but we went back to the hotel on the tram with everyone else where we all changed into our hotel robes and drank and laughed the rest of the night. What other time in your life do you have all of your most favorite people in the world gathered in one place? We wanted to relish it.

What perfect sentiments!
