Sister of the Bride

Guest

My sister has a wonderful love story.  She and her fiance met via a mutual friend and while they resided in two different states, they actually built their relationship based on getting to know one another through emails and letters.  Once things became more serious, they would travel the distance to see one another but mainly, their relationship matured through written note.  Her fiance proposed on a weekend trip to the mountains and soon after they were setting a date.  Even throughout their engagement, the letters have persisted as he is a member of the service and thus is often away.  Thus, she is struggling to come up with ways to really center their wedding decor/theme around their unique story.

Thus far, we have been inspired by bakers twine and simple kraft paper, vintage stamps, and postal ephemera from yesteryear.  I just wanted to seek out the advice of the creative SMP readers to see what your thoughts might be.  How might she incorporate the “love letter” theme into the overall wedding without being too obvious or theme-y?

I think that this idea is SUCH a great way to reflect the bride and groom's personalities as well as for your guests to get to know the story of you as a couple. Well, I dont know if you'd consider this too “theme-y” but maybe for table assignments you could number each table, and under each table number they could put a quote from one of their favorite letters or emails. I think it would be endearing! Or, based on the date the letter/email was received or sent…you could coordinate the table numbers as such…

for example…if it was Oct. 7th, you could have

Table 7

Oct 7th…”and the quote after it like this…” just an idea!

I am not sure if this wedding is already over, but there are a lot of great things you can do to incorporate the idea of love letters and correspondence without getting too them-y as you stated.

1. for favors provide stationary… you can get really nice items at a local mom and pop shop, so they are unique yet not too over priced.

2. table numbers: use envelopes with the table number popping out of the top or on the envelope (and for added fun, inside the envelope have a love letter… a copy of theirs or one from a famous writer… -love letters of great men could be a great resource for this)

3. Talk to your vendors..the florist, coordinator and such should be able to give you lots of other great ideas.
