Brides -
What is your opinion of having a local pizza place cater our reception with various gourmet pizzas? my fiancee and father have both been laid off but we are continuing with the wedding. i am looking to cut corners anywhere.
Our ceremony and reception will be held on the front lawn of my parents house in the country. It is a sunset wedding in August (in Oklahoma -hot!)
I can have pizza for about $600 dollars. Do you all think it would look totally trashy? has anyone done this? who did you ask to set it up and refresh it? I've seen some cute wedding photos on this site with pizza, so i know it can be done. Please help!
hugs!

I think it's a great idea!! I don't think it's trashy at all, as long as the pizzas are gourmet and the setup (even if DIY) is done nicely. I'm doing a southern wedding, and since I hate wedding food and am also on a budget, I'm having my fave bbq joint cater at $9.00 a person. I still have to work out the rest – like the setup, plates, utensils (i don't want the standard plastic that the restaurant provides!). It sounds great though, good luck!

oooo! i live in ny and absolutely love pizza….so i think this is a fabulous idea!
i don't know what your wedding theme/style is…but i think it would be a beautiful idea if you borrowed from friends (or bought at thrift stores/target & etc) large cake round cake stands and silver & white platters. you could have a banquet table with lots of beautiful pizza options at all heights.
to stick witht he italian theme and perhaps take it up a notch. fins some simple white, glass or silver bowls ad buy assortments of olives. and perhaps bowls or baskets with bread and decanters with olive oil.
i think you can make this lovely. i am channeling rustic tuscany for a buffest setting. imagine a tuscan farmhouse dinner table? helpful?

I think it's a great idea. One i've considered for myself, too! A great way to “dignify” it is to server really lovely salads in gorgeous bowls, and maybe offer some cool toppings to add to the pizzas. AND, you could stagger the pizzas on the table by placing some on stands to elevate them – making a beautiful landscape across the table.

Pizza sounds great! Who doesn't love pizza? As long as the setting and decor is done nicely, it won't look trashy at all!
It'll be great and so fun to do an italian theme! Play some italian opera as background music… different types of olives in clear or silver salad bowls, I love the idea of using different heights of wedding cake stands to put the pizzas out. If you'd like to have some light appys, tomato & boccocini drizzle with olive oil, or melon wrapped with parma ham will be some fantastic choices.
If you want to make your wedding looks high-end, try to cut your appys and pizzas into bite size. Miniature sizes always makes things look dainty and expensive!
