We are very excited about our upcoming weekend-long destination wedding in Palm Springs.  The majority of guests will be driving from Los Angeles, and a few others will be flying from out of town.  We have reserved half the rooms at a small boutique hotel.  They have given us a discount on the price of rooms (prices range from 169 to 299 per night and most guests will be staying 2 nights), BUT they have asked us to pair our guests with rooms, instead of having the guests deal directly with the hotel.

We really want people to stay at the hotel as part of the weekend experience (that, and we'll have to pay for all the rooms we reserved regardless of whether we fill them).  Is it appropriate to have a list of the 4 room types and prices on the RSVP card we send in the invitation, and ask guests to list their preference in order (1-4), along with the option of making their own reservations elsewhere?  Or, should this be done on a person by person basis via email or a phone call?

Have you thought about a website for your wedding?  They are pretty easy to set up and a good way to get info to your guests.  I would suggest listing the accomodations on the website and then send the email out with your website to your friends and family.  I would also encourage your family and wedding party to just tell you which room they would like.  I would not put it on the RSVP card, might be too much infor on the small card.

we are also having a destination wedding – we have got a group discount on the rooms (normally $460 per 2brm villa down to $260 per 2brm villa and on top of that we are paying for 25% deposit, paying for their breakfast and we are asking guests to pay the balance which works out around $40per guest). It is a bit much to put on the rsvp card, so on the invite we said overnight accomm at x, and said refer to accommodation card we'd inserted inside the invite pocket for details on rates, check in times, etc)
