Hello everyone!

I'm a bridesmaid for a friend who will be getting married on July 31st. She is having a couple of Irish traditions throughout her wedding and asked me to be in charge of one – decorating the horseshoe!

Here is more on the tradition incase you've never heard of it : The Horseshoe has long been a symbol of good luck in cross-cultures. Irish tradition has it that a horseshoe given as a wedding gift to the bride and groom and kept in their home will bring them good luck. The horseshoe must always be hung like the letter “U,” so that the luck doesn't “drip out.”

Along with this tradition, the horseshoe is decorated by the friend(s) of the bride and groom with no input from them. So, I'm kinda on my own with this. I have no clue how to decorate a horseshoe that would look very nice for her wedding. Does anyone have any input or suggestions as to how I can decorate a horsehoe with some style?

Here are some details concerning her wedding. The colors are white and clover green with a little gold. The ceremony and reception are being held in her Mother's backyard which is very nice and spacious enough for the event. The feel of the wedding is really simple, elegant yet intimate. Only close family and friends are invited. If you need any more details, let me know!

I'm really lost and would love some suggestions! Thank you!

tie a ribbon at the top, a thicker one in the green and a thinner one in the other color o guests can hang them when they take them home and have some strands that hang down for a nice accent.

Once, for party decorations/favors I spray painted horseshoes gold or silver or bronze. They really looked great. I strung some beads on some heavy-duty beading wire and attached thru the top holes in the horseshoe (for hanging). They turned out pretty cute. The type & color of beads will determine the level of gaudiness desired (or not!).

How about having the horseshoe attached to a plaque or something, instead of decorating the horseshoe, the plaque will give it a memorabilia style feel?

I really like the picture of the decorated horseshoe above!  You can probably find a lot of the materials to decorate at a craft store, like Michaels.  You could add flowers to match ones used in the wedding for a splash of color.  And I think a thick satin bow would add some elegance.

Here is an example of a horseshoe that is simple and can be used as a base for you to make more elaborate, if you choose…

Good luck!  I'm sure yours will turn out beautifully!

I just came across a wedding cake picture that had a horseshoe on it.  I figured it might also serve as inspiration.  If you click on the link, it will tell you the materials that went into making this.  I like the personal touch of adding the bride and groom's initials on the ribbon!

I'm picturing a horseshoe sprayed with rustic gold paint and decorated with white wildflowers and green clover leaves.
