From Nerissa Sparkman… Tommie Lee and Paul came to me because they wanted something different. Tommie Lee was bound and determined not to have a “normal” sort of engagement shoot and wanted something that reflected her and Paul’s personalities. They are both firefighters and have a very fun and playful relationship. Her first idea was to do almost a couples boudoir shoot because they definitely wanted to include their two French Bulldogs in the pictures. They wanted to be shot laying in bed, almost as if it were a Sunday morning — coffee in one hand, the paper in the other, with the dogs all snuggled up! Of course I loved the idea, and the shoot simply organically grew from that. I often have my clients create Pinterest boards in order to better communicate visually. I like to say, “You can tell me all you want about a picture, but it’s probably better if you show me. It’s like reading a book. You say, ‘pink’ I see hot pink, but you’re envisioning bubble gum.” Tommie and Paul were very drawn to a shoot that was in GQ recently of Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd, so I said, “Why not? Let’s use that as part of your inspiration and just go with it.” So that is how this particular engagement shoot came to be. I have to say, I may never get the feathers out of my studio, but it was totally worth it!
