French Country Wedding Inspiration

Not only do Koman Photography and Frankly Weddings have a LOT of wedding pretty to deliver to us today, but it comes along with a lesson on how to achieve that lovely—Layer. Layer. Layer. From rustic wooden chairs and happily-hued linens by La Tavola to the shapely crafted blooms by Indigo and Plum against backdrops of lace by Essense Of Australia, each detail is woven with care for a final result that reads: wedding gorgeous.

From Koman Photography…John and I were so fortunate to work with such an amazingly talented team! We’ve been dreaming of a French Wedding Inspiration for sometime now and when the time came to bring our vision to life we knew just who we could trust to help bring the French romantic feeling to Malibu.

From Frankie of Frankly Weddings…It is so easy to create a décor scheme that is missing something that you just can’t put your finger on. You’ve chosen the colors, the flowers, the linens, the china and flatware, but it doesn’t feel as romantic and decadent as you envisioned. What are you missing? Layered details! This photo shoot, styled by Frankly.Weddings proves the importance of layering details, and Koman Photography shot the breathtaking results for us to enjoy.

The base for this Romantic French Country Wedding was created by using a luscious table drape from La Tavola Fine Linen Rental and layered it with an oversized mauve runner A combination of Dish Wish vintage rentals, from pewter candlesticks, elegant crystal decanters and richly detailed glassware to simple vintage ivory china with layers of gorgeous textures and monotone details, dotted the center of the table, further enhancing the layered effect. The blush-toned linens were complimented by the romantically wild floral arrangements by Indigo and Plum, which included bold pops of deep purple and leafy branches. As any rustic setting such as Purple Hills Ranch would call for, it is important to incorporate elements of accessible nature on your tables, and the loose plums and figs scattered amongst the floral arrangements were the perfect way to do that. The fruit infused more of that deep color, tied to the surroundings, and served as yet another layer of décor!

We also can’t ignore that amazing dessert table, with treats by Sheila Mae. The dessert display continued the soft color scheme in the most delicious way – blush colored macarons, black berry accented layer cakes, and individual cherry topped tarts, all displayed in vintage glass and silver platters and pedestals. The layers of details and design seem endless!

Of course, the layers of attention to detail can’t end at your décor, it must carry into your own appearance on the big day. This Bride is in one of the most romantic lace gowns we’ve ever seen from Bella Bridal. Nicoletta Gauci & Lily Naanos of Theresa Huang Makeup & Hair Design styled loose, wavy hair and dark smoldering eyes that are perfectly accented with the sweetest floral crown that looks like it could have been foraged on the spot. The Groom’s soft navy suit is handsomely styled for his Bride. All the details are breathtaking and the Bride and Groom looked right at home as they enjoyed the decadent scheme created just for them.

French Chateau Summer Wedding

This Bride and I are on the same wavelength. Her goal: to not overload with decor and details, but rather, let their venue shine. And when said venue is the most charming French chateau, it radiates beauty in and of itself. Darya Kamalova of Thecablookfotolab Photography made sure no moment went uncaptured and we’ve got the proof in The Vault.

From Darya Kamalova of Thecablookfotolab PhotographyIt was my first 100% film wedding. Before I shot a lot of weddings hybrid but never before 100% film and without assistant. I was really nervous but nervous in a pleasant way. I knew on hundred percent that everything will be even better then I imagined). Natalya and Andrey booked me in advance, we had a lovely Skype chat and loved each other from the first sight.

I came to France a day before the wedding, we had a lovely evening with girls with wine outside the chateau. Then the next day I woke up very early in order to shoot all the details calmly. And in fact this is my favourite part of this wedding: the morning and details pictures. The interiors of the chateau were really fantastic and it was a pleasure to shoot there. The bride’s room was really to die for! Just look at this bed and those windows.

The dress was gorgeous and suited Natalya so much! I’m also in love with her transparent Louboutin flats! I think that’s the perfect choice for the tall brides or for a second pair of shoes for the wedding. Also, the ceremony was so great and so particular! They had a symbolic ceremony in the afternoon. But there was no celebrant, the celebrants were the bride and the groom themselves! There were 2 microphones and they were talking to the guests, telling their story, saying thanks to every guest, reading love letters to each other. It was so touching, pure and unusual! I think it is one of the most memorable ceremonies that I shot.

In the evening it was so cool when they poured the champagne in the pyramid of glasses by themselves. There was nothing “too much” or something “missing” in this wedding. It was perfectly balanced and beautiful. And I’m happy that I had a chance to be their photographer.

From The Bride…We were introduced to each other by our friends, but we did not immediately become a couple, and for a couple of years we met regularly in company and showed our mutual sympathy, but probably it was not yet the right time. Then one day Andrew’s friend came in Russia for a business trip, we met and from that day we began our story as a couple. We were engaged for 10 months. Then Andrey made a proposal.

8 months in advance we found a place and determined the date. 6 months before the wedding we sent the invitation and agreed with the photographer, then 3 Months before the wedding we started the hottest preparation (flowers, menu, seating plan, the timing of the day, logistics, etc.) We did everything on our own, without any wedding planner). I was laughing on very small details: I woke up at 5 am and finally realised that this is my wedding day, about the ceremony, which described our story, our attitude to the people around.

The most memorable moment was in the evening, under a big tree with champagne when some of the guests already went to bed and only the closest ones remained. We didn’t have a lot of decor and details on our wedding, the place did not require a global design, our task was not to overload it. There were flowers on the tables and during the ceremony, flowers as gifts to the guests. I can give a good advice to the brides and grooms-to-be: Prepare everything in advance for this day and try to get pleasure both during preps and during the wedding. And don’t worry! Everything will be as it should be!

Romantic Anniversary in Provence

You know what’s on the tippy top of my life wish list? A trip to Provence with my hubby. So this anniversary session beautifully captured by Gert Huygaerts is like watching a dream unfold. Gorgeous images, gorgeous countryside, gorgeous couple – doesn’t get any better.

From Gert Huygaerts PhotographyThe beautiful anniversary of Chad and Thao in the Provence lavender fields. The story behind this report by Thao:

From The Bride…Chad and I started dating in our first year of college. After graduation, I moved to Boston to pursue my master’s degree while he raced motorcross professionally and started up a business. We maintained the long distance relationship for five years before he proposed and I moved back to Vermont to start our lives together.

MARRIAGE MATTERS ~ This October, we will be celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary.

A few years ago I ran across a picture on Instagram of a beautiful lavender field that seemed to go on forever and fell in love with the idea of going there. I did a little research and learned that it was in the Provence region of France. I heard wonderful things about Provence but it had not been on my list of places to visit until I saw that picture. Since we graduated from college we have made it a point to go away together once a year, just the two of us to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company. For the past 16 years, we have taken our vacations in the fall to avoid the crowds, to celebrate our anniversary and the timing fit well into our work schedules. The lavender season runs from mid-June to late July so this would be our first summer vacation together. It is a challenge for him to take time off in the summer but he saw how much it meant to me and gave me the green light to begin planning. The thoughts of frolicking through lavender fields made the cold winter months in Vermont bearable and got me through busy season.

We had an incredible trip! We visited quaint Provencal towns, wandered through farmer markets, took midnights strolls, and ate way too many gelatos and macarons. We walked through sunflower fields, olive groves, and watch sunsets from the lavender fields. The lavender smelled as wonderful as it looked and there’s nothing quite like the humming of the buzzing bees.

MARRIAGE MATTERS ~ The best part of the trip was just spending time together without the distraction of work. I am truly thankful that our paths crossed in that business class so many years ago. He has been my best friend for more than half my life and my family loves him as much as I do.

……. As Phoebe from Friends would say, “He’s my lobster.”

Dreamy + Romantic Paris Elopement

I love love. I’m a hopeless romantic, big gesture, heart-over-head kind of girl, which is probably why I love this romantic Parisian elopement so much. After a long distance relationship, a fantasy trip to Paris and the Groom’s near-fatal car accident, this gorgeous duo returned to the City of Love to celebrate the most important thing of all: love. Fall for it all thanks to Coco Tran‘s stunning photography here.

From Coco Tran… Nancy & Kevin met over 10 years ago in Mexico, where Kevin was stationed as a Navy sailor. After two short first dates, Kevin and Nancy embarked on a long distance relationship for the next 3 years. Finally reuniting after Kevin’s deployment in Iraq, they went on a trip to Paris, Nancy’s ultimate dream location. Shortly after their Paris trip, a tragic yet life changing event happened. Kevin was in a near fatal car crash that he luckily survived after major hip reconstructive surgery. Nancy gracefully and gently nurtured Kevin back to health during his long recovery. Fast forward two years, Kevin knew Nancy was the one he wanted to call his love forever. He proposed and they decided to elope in the city of Love.

Romantic French Elopement Inspiration

Paris is my happy place. – so much so that I would easily consider a repeat wedding like, tomorrow. And if said repeat were to look anything like this pretty from Le Secret D’Audrey that would just be the icing on the cake. It’s pink, it’s romantic, and of course it’s perfectly Parisian with beautiful Studio French Blue hand written touches. Evoking the essence of romance you can see it all in The Vault!

From Le Secret D’AudreyParis is a romantic city to most. But for me it is also my hometown, where I live and have so many great memories. A s a photographer I am always inspired to shoot here. Many couples choose France and Paris to get married and elope.

In this stunning video by the talented Ale of Imaginale I wanted to share the magic time you can have in Paris, getting married in the most intimate way. A minimalist Parisian apartment, some fresh cut flowers, a flowy gown and you are ready to say I Do in the City of Love. Couples who elope want to keep it simple and you can still have a fabulous decor and feel with a few tricks. Big loose Dahlias flowers will look great in your decor, add some candles and you will get a great atmosphere to your getting ready room.

Simple stationery with beautiful calligraphy can be a great way to tell your story. You won’t be sending invitations of course but sending the announcement you eloped is a great touch.

I love when couples get a small wedding cake. No need for guests to enjoy a yummy cake! And lastly the great thing about eloping is that you are having an intimate getting ready, perfect to add some Boudoir photos to your day. A cute lingerie ensemble, lace and a cute robe is all you need.

Romantic Rooftop Engagement Session in Toulouse, France

Oh my goodness, do I have a treat for you: this rooftop engagement session in France’s southern city of Toulouse from Elena Fleautiaux Photography. It all started with that gorgeous Pronovias black lace gown and when combined with gorgeous natural lighting, a rich color palette and romantic florals, it’s absolute magic. The couple posed with a sign that said “Le meilleur reste à venir” (the best is yet to come), and I assure you, one look in the gallery, and you’ll see that’s true.

From Elena Fleautiaux Photography… The story of this session starts by a dress :) I was discussing the engagement session with my future bride, Mélanie, – she asked me to forgive her because she had a dress, but it’s black and not very “suitable” for the photo session. But when she sent me the picture, it took my breath away—it was really beautiful.

When I saw it, I decided that I will try to do something interesting FOR IT :) !! And for my couple – Mélanie and Mathieu. M&M. We shot at two locations in Toulouse: an old-fashioned hotel and my roof. I live in the center of the city and can see all the beauty of this city, nicknamed “la ville rose” (the pink city) because of the color of the walls. Even though I’m not French, I love all the historic monuments and the sea of the roofs far-far-far away.

We were lucky it didn’t rain! We used two quotations for the session hand-written by a calligrapher from Toulouse: “Le meilleur reste à venir” (the best is still to come) and a quotation from Paul Eluard, a french poet who was one of the founders of the surrealist movement at the beginning of the 20th century: “Voir le silence, lui donner un baiser sur les lèvres et les toits de la ville seront de beaux oiseaux mélancoliques” (to see the silence, to kiss it on its lips and the city-roofs will become beautiful melancoly birds).

The silver spoons and forks belonged to my mother-in-law’s family during two centuries. Also, we decided to use some pomegranates as a decoration for the “place cards” and as elements in the bouquet and floral composition on the table. The colors were black, beige, pomegranate. The cake’s color was also black.

My favorite moment was – a big question in my head – how to finish in time the first part of the session in an old hotel and to run and to be in time to have all installed on the roof (and to lift it up all alone !) , and to photograph all the details on the roof , not to forget the couple which arrived later and to do all that before the sun goes down.

I must to speak about three girls who helped me to create the details of the session:
1. Calligraphy – Nathalie, whose beautiful work helped to add exquisite notes in the style and atmosphere of the session.
2. The Cake – Helen, a very kind English girl who helps her couples “come and sleep in sugar” because her cakes are a small dream and a big miracle.
3. Poppy Figure Flower – Sophie, a talented and best florist in Toulouse, who is always there to listen to the ideas and wishes of her clients and propose marvelous floral things.

Villa

From Miss Gen Photography… Provence is an area that is close to Moya and Jamie’s hearts, so it’s where they decided to celebrate their wedding with friends and family from all over the world. The South of France was the perfect setting for this wedding, an outdoor ceremony and reception full of sunshine, champagne and lavender. The colour scheme was inspired by the beautiful French countryside.

Moya and Jamie had a romantic ‘first look’ before the ceremony so they could share a few moments alone before all the guests arrived, this was also a lovely opportunity for some portraits in the beautiful gardens.

Moya’s uncle travelled over from Australia to officiate the outdoor ceremony in the gardens of Bastide St Mathieu. Followed by drinks by the pool and a delicious dinner created by Ben Spalding, the executive chef at Aqua Shard in London.

Moya wore a stunning gown by Australian designer Gwendolynne and Jamie wore a British designed suit by Ted Baker.

The olive grove, lavender and the beautiful old chateau provided the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous destination wedding and it was a pleasure to photograph!

From The Bride… There were a few reasons why Jamie and I choose to get married in the South of France. The idea of a destination wedding had always appealed to us, we love holidays with friends and as I am Australian and Jamie English it meant the world to have all our family and friends in one place for as long as possible. We went to the Cote d’Azur on our first holiday together and said at the time how wonderful it would be to bring loved ones back there if we ever got married – so just over two years later that’s exactly what we did!

We spent a lovely long weekend driving around visiting venues both on the Riviera and further inland in Provence, leaving Bastide St Mathieu until last as we had fallen in love with the pictures on the website and sure enough, paid our deposit immediately. The house and gardens were even more beautiful than the pictures, Soraya was a wonderful hostess and we could instantly imagine having our celebration there.

We did a lot of the initial research and planning ourselves, but as we lived abroad and neither of us spoke fluent French we got the help of a local planner, Natalie at Wedding Angels in Nice. Her knowledge of local suppliers and help on the day were priceless, and really took all the stress out of the planning.

The Bastide formulated our vision for the day. We wanted the flowers and decorations to complement the house and grounds so kept the colours fairly neutral with grey Watters bridesmaid dresses chosen with one of my maids in NYC and then made to measure as the other girls were in London and Brisbane. We went for herbs and lavender on the tables coupled with white flowers all potted in silver and grey pots with silver tea light candle holders. I had a white peony bouquet with lambs ear detail that I had originally seen on pinterest and was brought to life perfectly by Wayne Riley Flowers. Jamie had a ranunculus boutonnière with lambs ear, while the bridesmaids and ushers carried/wore fresh lavender and baby’s breath.

My maid of honour actually found my wedding dress! We got married within a month of each other and she had tried it on at Luella’s Boudoir in Wimbledon. She said she knew straight away that it wasn’t the dress for her, it was the one for me! She was right, and Gwendolynne in Melbourne did such a brilliant job! The dress is called Hope and I absolutely love it. Jamie got his suit, tie and shoes from Ted Baker here in London and looked so handsome.

As we weren’t able to be legally married in France we had the wonderful opportunity to really tailor our ceremony to be very personal. We asked my Uncle to be the celebrant and chose readings that really resonated with us for my sister and a good friend of ours to read. It was very special.

We both really love our food and asked a chef based here in London if he would consider catering the wedding for us. The result was a really sensational meal that people are still speaking to us about but also threw up a fair number of logistical challenges! I am so happy with how it worked out, but would recommend others think quite long and hard about the stress/reward ratio of doing something a bit out of the box! The added bonus of having our chef come from London is that we could get our cake made of rounds of cheese from La Fromagerie in Marylebone.. one of my favourite afternoons of wedding planning was going there to select our cheese – delicious! It also meant the “cake” provided midnight snacks for anyone peckish later!

We love our music also, having been to lots of gigs and festivals together, and one of the fun things about a relatively long engagement (15 months) was putting together playlists for the day – one for as guests were arriving, the cocktail hour, dinner, and suggestions for the DJ for after dinner. We really enjoyed this, and have some great playlists for dinner parties to come! For the more ceremonial moments we picked songs that were meaningful for us – they’ll be ones we listen to forever:

Processional: First Day of My Life – Bright Eyes
Recessional: You’ve Got the Love – Florence + the Machine
First Dance: Islands – The XX

We spent a long time deliberating on what to enter the reception to, and in the end picked a song that we both just find really fun – Call Me Al by Paul Simon. It led to one of our favourite moments, a giant sing along with the entire marquee standing and dancing for almost the entire song!

We could not be happier with our choice of photographer and videographer. We knew as soon as we saw Miss Gen’s work that she was the kind of wedding photographer we wanted – she has an amazing eye for a beautiful shot and a way of capturing people and moments that have really brought our day to life afterwards. Irene Piera Film’s work is fabulous too, everyone we have shown our wedding video to says it really feels like you are back there, and we feel so lucky to have such a brilliant memento of the day – especially the speeches and ceremony which really flew by!!

Ultimately, what made the day so special was making promises to each other in front of our friends and family, and it’s definitely important to keep sight of that as you’re planning. It was so special for us to have guests from all over the world together for at least the day – some we were able to spend the whole week with – an experience that we are unlikely to ever have again and we truly cherish. Enjoy every second!

Romantic Newlywed Portrait Session in Paris

The phrase is technically “I left my heart in San Francisco,” but, I left my heart in Paris. Thankfully, this couple’s portrait session in Paris from French Grey Photography is bringing me right back. And the city’s inherent glamour and beauty is even more magical with this Bride and Groom—from the Bride’s pastel bouquet and feather wedding dress to the Groom’s classic bowtie and dashing suit. See it all here.

From French Grey PhotographyThis lovely couple from Florida first contacted me when they were thinking of eloping in Paris. However, after some careful consideration they decided that their family and friends were too important to not be a part of their wedding day, so they decided to plan a formal wedding in Florida, for all family to attend and hired me to help capture the most amazing honeymoon/cherish-the-dress session in Paris instead!

The bride and groom looked so majestic in their formal attire as we made our way through the quiet streets of Paris. As the city slept, during the early morning hours of those first spring days, we dashed around the city to capture the images which you see, with a privacy that only comes in the early morning quiet hours of city life.

Customizing her wedding gown with delicate white feathers, and accessorizing her beautiful golden locks with just the right touch of red lipstick, paisley looked like a movie star straight from Hollywood! The brides bouquet of soft pastel colored Peonies, Freesia, Ranunculus and white Roses were provided by French Grey Events.

We danced our way around Paris in all the must-be-seen at iconic Parisian locations, as well as some hidden corners that I have discovered in my many years of working primarily in Paris as a professional portrait and wedding photographer.

A fantastic morning spent with a fantastic couple in the beautiful city of glamour and romance.

Romantic Ballet Pink + Black Boudoir Session in France

For any Francophile (or anyone with a penchant for a good cat eye!) there is no greater classic, coquettish beauty than Brigitte Bardot. The screen siren was channeled effortlessly in this shoot through the model’s bouncy curls, infectious smile, and all the French lace lingerie you can handle… Take a look at the stunning gallery, from Brian Wright of French Grey Photography, and prepare to get carried away.

From Brian Wright at French Grey PhotographyFiona wanted to surprise her boyfriend with some sexy modern boudoir photography for Christmas. They both love classic black & white Fashion photography and Bridget Bardot photographs line her bedroom walls. So when we began the early morning secret boudoir shoot, (her boyfriend flew out of town earlier that morning on a business trip) the photographs on the walls were our inspiration for the modern day boudoir shoot.

Fiona has the most amazing classical French apartment with high ceilings, original herringbone wooden flooring and a very stylish Scandinavian style in the decor. French Grey Events helped style the shoot with some fresh flowers and simple propping. Working with the amazing pieces already in the apartment, we used candles and white wardrobe pieces to style the soft and romantic part of the shoot, and then switched to darker, black and lace accents and lighting for the sexy part of the shoot.

The talented, and always fun to be around, Ciara and Charles worked their hair and make-up magic on the already stunning Fiona. Whom in turn was waiting for them, in the very early winter morning hours, with freshly brewed coffee, swedish cakes and Maxwell playing softly in the background….A beautiful stylish boudoir session ensued with us taking full advantage of the superbly styled apartment and stunning smile of the scandinavian beauty.

I’m sure that her boyfriend was very pleased with his Christmas gift this year!

The modern boudoir photography style is perfect for those modern women wishing to surprise their boyfriend, fiancés or husbands with some beautiful intimate imagery. Why not take advantage of your amazing Parisian hotel on your next trip to Paris and book a professional photographer to capture you in some stunning black and white romantic photographs for your partner, or yourself to enjoy!

I work with an assistant on these intimate sessions, and together we will work out all the details, i.e. wardrobe choices, flower and decor styling if needed, Hair and Make+up etc before the session date so that you feel comfortable and ready to be your sexiest and most natural in front of my camera.

Romantic French Riviera Elopement in Antibes

The French Riviera is synonymous with all things chic, and this elopement in Antibes is synonymous with all things beautiful and romantic. Wearing heirloom jewelry and carrying a handmade bouquet of coral charm peonies, this beautiful bride walked down the aisle to her handsome groom, waiting in a bow tie and fun socks, underneath Jaume Plensa’s modern masterpieceAnd that’s just the beginning of this perfect couple’s perfect day, captured by En Route Photography. Lust after it all here.

From En Route PhotographyTwo Californian lovebirds escaped the hustle and bustle of wedding planning to elope in the South of France (Antibes). Just a handful of their family joined them on the big day, which was full of that je-ne-sais-quoie Franch charm… and yeah…. so much beauty….!!!! Kianne and Shane are both insanely good looking and they make such a drop dead gorgeous couple… wouldn’t you say…?

From the beautiful Bride… We met at a gym in San Diego. I walked in and was immediately infatuated and Shane looked at me and said “mine.” I was finishing law school and starting to study for the California bar exam, and Shane took pity on me so he cooked for me all summer. About a month after dating, Shane and I went to a French restaurant and Shane revealed he had a house in the south of France that he had not been to in years. I replied, in my typical straightforward manner, “Why wouldn’t you be in France right now?” Shane had no answer, and we immediately booked a trip to Antibes, France where we fell in love; not only with each other, but with traveling together. Since then, Shane and I have traveled the world and nothing makes us happier than exploring a new place, but Antibes, France is special and we travel back each year to celebrate.

Shane proposed at Point Reyes in the Cypress Tree Tunnel in Northern California with McKenna Holnagel (my sister) as the photographer, driver, and ring-hider. Afterwards, the three of us enjoyed a picnic (my favorite pastime) looking over the gorgeous northern California Coast Line. Without cell phone service, and truly able to enjoy the bliss of the engagement moment without a flurry of calls and social media, we decided not to announce our engagement or wedding date in order to stay connected and present during the [short] engagement time, without showers or parties.

Our vision for the wedding was elopement, elopement, elopement. We didn’t plan a scheme/style/color. I, the practical one, wanted THE white dress but knew that silk or a train wouldn’t travel to France well. Instead, I opted for a French lace dress with long sleeves that I knew I could move around the cobble stones streets in. We repeatedly told our families (our 8 guests), including the sole bridesmaid and groomsman, to wear whatever they wanted. The style conscious Shane, asked the men to wear both bow ties and “fun socks.” He loves socks.

The look of the wedding was to be whatever the south of France terrain offered that day. Rain, sun, shade, it couldn’t be decided until the day before, so the planning was limited and with the belief that all would come together perfectly (and it did!).

The location wasn’t selected until the night before the wedding. We choose La Grande Nomade d’Antibes by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa. The way the ½ open statue enveloped the small wedding party was effortlessly intimate and the blanket of letters made the event simply surreal. One candid pre-wedding picture of us inside the statue was all it took.

It was mother’s day, so we hand-delivered cards and fresh croissants from the local boulangerie to each of the 3 mothers. Shane wore cufflinks gifted by me, one of which had a map of Point Reyes, and the other, a map of Antibes.

Invitations were the Book “The Mediterranean Summer” (set in Antibes), which we wrapped in lavender tissue paper and personally stamped with everyone’s initials.

Right before I walked up to the ceremony, I looked down and saw pollen all over my dress from my (handmade) bouquet. Also, my veil ripped out of my hair right as I walked up to my fiancé. I laughed at both and found ironic humor in a little destruction on a “perfect day.” The entire ceremony was written by the us. We handpicked each part and read them out loud together to make sure it actually sounded like us. “The Orange” is a poem I sent to Shane on our first Valentine’s day. My sister McKenna Holnagel read it.

From start to finish, we had fun. Notably, and thanks to their our flexible and fun-loving photographer, we were walking to take pictures and a yacht owner invited us aboard. We didn’t think twice about ditching our wedding shoes and climbing aboard (with a veil on) and taking pictures. The owner and staff poured Prosecco as a toast and we stayed aboard nearly an hour.

The entire event was super personal, intimate and nontraditional. From the book invitation, to the Picnic and Petanque “rehearsal,” to all the families’ participation in picking out flowers and merging for meals. All we truly wanted was to be married and have a trip; and by not worrying about having perfect details (or worrying about the details at all e.g. location, rehearsing the ceremony, dress code, showers), the day was effortlessly perfect.

Every person at the wedding either made a speech or participated in the wedding. Shane’s step mom was the officiant.

We bought the flowers from a rolling flower cart that we bumped into at 10:00 pm the night before the wedding. I just wanted something local, bright and not tailored or professional looking.

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry day to day so it didn’t look like me to wear it to my wedding. I wore the pearl earrings I’ve worn every day for the last 12 years, my great grandmother’s ring, my new grandmother in law’s ring, and my other (recently passed) grandmother in law’s handkerchief. While tradition was not important to me, it was important for me to have each family involved.

From Ian HolmesLiana and Nicolas flew from New-York to celebrate their wedding in the heart of Provence where Nicolas was born and raised.

They rented a private property with an astonishing view of the Luberon hills where they spent 3 days with their closest friends and family. This house was the perfect setting for their wedding.
For the decoration, Liana wanted something natural and elegant with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Long wooden tables, coherent soft decor and lighting both around their outside dining area and throughout the gardens.

Cocktails, petanque, champagnes and local French wines ensured the cocktail afternoon was the prefect way for guest to relax and have fun. At the end of dinner, the amazing band ensured every single person was on the dance floor.

A beautiful and unforgettable night.

MEET SMP BLOGGER BRIDE: Chloe from Boxwood Avenue!

Bride’s, I’m about to introduce you to your new best friend. Because not only is Chloe from Boxwood Avenue sweeter than Southern tea, but she’s our newest Blogger Bride-to-be! She’ll be sharing her journey down the aisle with us, and what better way to get things started than with her love story and pretty engagement pictures with Ian Holmes from Paris below!

From the beautiful Bride-to-be…Hi SMP readers, let me introduce myself! I am Chloe Legras (soon to be MacKintosh!) from Boxwood Avenue; a rural lifestyle blog that all girls can draw inspiration from. Style Me Pretty was one of the only blogs I read before becoming a blogger, so to say I’m honored to be here, is an understatement! I can’t wait to share my wedding planning experiences with you! Being rurally located, it was hard for me to know where to start in the planning process, but luckily, we’ve got SMP, so with the help of their Little Black Book, and of course, the Lookbook, I’ve been able to plan my upcoming Lake Tahoe wedding from afar!

Greg and I met right when I graduated from high school, and for a few years, we attended college together. While I spent most of my nights studying, he couldn’t have been less interested in school. So halfway through our college years, he decided to move two hours north of our hometown, to his family’s cattle ranch, and adopt the glamorous title of ‘Cowboy’. I opted to finish my degree, so during those years, he commuted as much as he could, and we lived in a somewhat long-distance relationship. Immediately after I graduated, I moved north to be with him, and it’s been a complete adventure (thank goodness for online shopping!).

The ranch is a working cattle operation situated on 167,000 acres of land in northern California. What’s a girl to do when she is living in the middle of nowhere? Start a blog, of course! I started Boxwood Avenue to share my story of rural living in the modern world. I love to cook and garden, but most of all – I love to DIY! When Greg and I got engaged, I knew from that very moment, I was going to be living in a DIY dreamland for the next year as we planned our wedding.

Speaking of our engagement, let me tell you the story! A week before we left for a vacation in Paris, my girlfriends invited Greg and I to an ‘end-of-the-summer’ dinner party in Lake Tahoe. As we drove up to the lake, for what I thought was a dinner party, Greg was acting very weird. He was upset because we were running late, and I couldn’t for the life of me understand why he was so shaken up by it! We pulled up to the restaurant right at sunset, and he hurriedly took my hand, and said, “I have something to show you.”

He was shaking, but I still had no clue what he was up to. As we walked towards the water, I realized what was happening. The beach was lined with candles in paper bags and fresh flowers (thanks to my bestie for helping him!). He got down on one knee, and asked me those magical words, “Will you marry me?”

After I said YES! I looked up to see all of our closest friends and family cheering for us from afar. Which turned our engagement into our engagement party, where we celebrated our love with great food and great friends. It was a magical night to say the least – followed by two beautiful weeks in Paris, where we had the opportunity to have our engagement photos taken by the talented Ian Holmes.

I look forward to sharing some of the ideas, and of course DIY projects, that I will be using in my own wedding, as well as tips for brides planning an out-of-town wedding. I’ve had so much fun being engaged, and hope to translate some of that joy to all of you brides out there!

Ethereal Provence-Inspired Wedding Inspiration

I could simply save one of these pics as my latest laptop wallpaper, but I want to live within them even more, so I’m thinking of ordering one of each to hang all over my home (I’m not joking). Captured at Greg Finck’s first film photography retreat, aptly name The Light Workshop, this shoot came together with a powerhouse team of talent, including Branco Prata, Lavender and Rose, Made In You, Nice Plume Calligraphie, topped off with beautiful blooms by Laetitia C. Fleurs D’Atelier. Good luck picking a favorite; it’s a struggle I’m all to happy to indulge.

From Greg Finck… Provence is very rich in terms of imagery and what people have in mind when they think about this amazing French region. Lavender fields, olive groves, pale green tones… you name it. Les Domaines de Patras is a hidden gem in the heart of Provence, and that’s the venue I had picked to host the first edition of my film photography retreat: the Light Workshop. Kéty and Eric, the owners of this historical Provence venue, are the sweetest persons you can meet, and dedicate all of their heart to the brides and grooms they host every weekend to celebrate their weddings.

With 17 attendees coming from 10 countries, and 15 staff members, we spent four days enjoying the Provence easy lifestyle and food, surrounded by Provencal beauty. This is an overview of the Provence inspiration we tried to immerse our attendees in. This was all designed by some of the best European designers, including Lavender&Rose Weddings, Branco Prata and Nessa Buonomo for Made in You. Local floral designer Laetitia C. made magic as she’s used to doing. Our models, dressed by Rime Arodaky and Jenny Packham by Martine Toledano, were wonderfully appraised by the hair styling of Ciara Coiffure and make up of Charles Gillman. Beautiful calligraphy by Nice Plume Calligraphy was with us from the welcome dinner to all of the styled shoots.

Finally, all of this shoots, and the overall ambiance of the workshop, were inspired by the ethereal and light atmosphere of Provence, and we all went through a long creative path to get to that result, to make of this a one and only experience for our attendees. This is Light Workshop.

A Provence Engagement Session in Fields Lavender

I dream of France on the daily and today Greg Finck has brought my fond hopes into existence. Set in a lavender field (in Provence!) it’s an e-sesh filled with romance and it’s giving me major wanderlust with each violaceous hue. Graced with never-ending beauty and one happy in love pair, the golden hour gallery is one you won’t want to miss!

From Greg Finck… Anna and Nuri came all the way from St Petersburg, Russia, to get engaged in the middle of Provence lavender fields. When Anna contacted me a year ago, she admitted that being photographed in the stunning Provence lavender fields was her child’s dream.

I can actually understand that, as lavender is a full part of Provence imagery and these landscapes are stunning during the summer. The only stretch with lavender, that most people don’t have in mind, is that it only blooms in Provence between June 15th and July 15th. After these dates, the lavender is cut to be used in Provence fragrance industry, wether it is to produce essential oils, perfumes, soaps, etc.

We had the luck of a beautiful summer day with Anna and Nuri, and we positioned the session exactly for golden hour. We started the session on the hills overlooking the Provence valley, where Anna and Nuri could enjoy a refreshing homemade cocktail made of local Limoncello and sparkling water. Anna looked stunning in her purple dress, that she had chosen for the occasion so as to match the lavender color palette.

We then headed to two beautiful lavender fields to enjoy the sunset and the golden hour. Anna and Nuri looked stunning and really enjoyed the moment. This is honestly one of my favorite engagement session so far.

SMP Blogger Bride Engagement in Paris

When it comes to our Blogger Brides you better bet they’ve got style, grace, and of course good taste. So when Jean of Extra Petite sent over her recent e-sesh from Paris – with none other than Le Secret D’Audrey behind the lens – well let’s just say I just about DIED over every detail. It’s pretty, it’s pink, it’s Parisian (with a petite flair), and we’ve got it all waiting for you in the gallery!

From Le Secret D’Audrey… Jean is a “Boston gal standing just under 5 feet tall”. This blog started as a means for her to share her experiences while building a wardrobe of pieces that actually fit and flattered her figure. She is followed by many for her great taste and fun tips.

From The Bride To Be…Hello beautiful brides! For my third post on here, I wanted to share our engagement photos from Paris taken by the talented Le Secret D’Audrey. For brides who have more than one dress planned for wedding activities (ie. rehearsal dinner, reception, bridal shower), an engagement session could be a great opportunity to give one of the other dresses some extra attention and not have to buy something new. I wore this shorter white dress later for my shower, and this blush pink gown was handmade by one of my best friends for our Chinese wedding tea ceremony. Our wedding photographer shoots with a digital camera, so for engagement photos we wanted to experiment with a film photographer for the lighter, more airy feel of that medium. Romantic Paris turned out to be the perfect setting!

Glamorous + Romantic Paris Anniversary Session

I have a love affair with Paris, and this anniversary session from Sophie Epton PhotographyMadame Artisan Fleuriste and Lazzaro Makeup Artistry is precisely why. The stunning photos below capture the beauty and charm that make Paris my favorite city in the world. And this sweet couple? Well, they’re pretty gorgeous, too. Get your passport ready and experience the romance of the City of Lights here.

From Sophie Epton PhotographyParis is far and away one of the most visually stunning and magical places in the world, and I can’t think of any other city I would want to document love stories more, especially for this anniversary session. The inspiration behind this shoot was to document a globetrotting French couple, who after living apart in different countries for quite some time in their eight years together, have finally reunited in the city of Paris. While capturing weddings and engagements is so wonderful and essential, I think it’s vital that we continue to document other important stages of love and life. For a couple to stay together through the ups and downs of a relationship and still remain strong and committed is such a beautiful thing, and should be celebrated!

We had the best time photographing all over this magnificent city, following our couple to some of their favorite areas including Le Marais and the spectacular Palais Royal, and shooting small snippets of their life together to commemorate such an exciting time. Samantha with Wondrous Whimsy provided incredible calligraphy to represent love letter passages and quotes that had been written back and forth over the years by the duo; she also teamed up with Lacy from Paper Birch Designs to create an engraved olive wood board that was used during their picnic in Place Des Vosges, as well as the laser-cut “Tu Me Manques” wood sign (which translates to “you are missing from me” in French) that really represented the long-distance period of their relationship. We even procured a French Blue Mrs. Box to house a ring that had been bought years ago in Mexico as a symbol of their long-lasting love and promise to one another.

The entire shoot was elevated so much by the incredibly talented vendors in Paris that we spent months planning with across the world. Madame Artisan Fleuriste created whimsical florals in dreamy shades of peaches and pinks that added so much beauty and drama to every scene. Jacqueline with Babylone (a local jewelry shop in the heart of Le Marais) contributed the most exquisite handmade jewelry that paired perfectly with each outfit and metallic BHLDN gowns. Additionally, Toni with Lazzaro Makeup Artistry provided brilliant hair and makeup, even traveling with us all over the city for touchups. We ended the day at the quintessential Eiffel Tower, and as we were all packing up, the iron skyscraper lit up with an explosion of golden shimmer…the perfect end to such a magical day! We hope this story and shoot inspires more couples to document their life beyond their wedding day, and truly celebrate the living, breathing, authentic love that exists within any everlasting union.

Elegant Peach + White Wedding Inspiration in the South of France

If you’re a Francophile, prepare to fall in love with this stunning inspiration shoot! Captured by Ingrid Lepan Photographe, and brimming with romantic touches like lace back gowns and Nice Plume calligraphy, this shoot also happens to feature an absolutely dreamy bouquet, from Vanessa Bouvier-Daniel of D’amour Et De Deco, and we got the bouquet breakdown right below!

From Ingrid LepanWith this photo shoot we were looking to showcase the upcoming wedding decoration trends…The keywords used to guide us were lightness, softness and simplicity.

Each vendor was inspired by these three words, the veils were chosen for their looseness into the breeze, we wanted this rendering with Léa, who walks through the hanging linens in the breeze of a soft spring evening. The dress from the designer Vanda Outh, made out of Chantilly lace and muslin chosen for its smoothness. The very natural make up and the hairdressing created by Les Ciseaux de Marie, Nice Plume’s aerial organic calligraphy of the menus and the seating cards were a perfect fit with the table decoration as well as Zouzou Traiteur’s peach and vanilla mini pavlovas and mascarpone cream or the rose petal marmalade locally produced and the peach cocktails. The choice of our photographer Ingrid Lepan was an end of the day lightning with a sunset backlight to give these pictures even more softness.

The whole team worked on the little details, such as the ice cubes holding in little flowers and spices, the details of the bouquet and the flower crown made with handpicked flowers on the same morning in order to send out this smoothness touch.

From Vanessa Bouvier-DanielFor the bouquet, the key descriptors remain the same as the photo shoot: an airy atmosphere, simplicity, and the softness of pastel colors. A few flowers were picked in the woods on the same day as the shoot, such as honeysuckle, wild snapdragon and grass, which were combined with the peonies, locally-grown roses, a branch of Kalanchoe Magic Bells, and two succulent flowers. Everything was held by a linen ribbon that matched the veils.

Romantic Family-Oriented Paris Elopement

Big weddings aren’t for everyone—thank goodness, because if they were, we wouldn’t have this beautiful couple’s romantic Parisian elopement. And despite this small size, this wedding has everything it needs: love, family (the couple’s daughter and flowergirl insisted on flowers in her favorite shade of pink) and stunning photos from Le Secret d’Audrey. See them all here.

From The Bride…Late one night, somewhere between trying to minimize our ever growing guest list, seating arrangements and choosing the perfect colour scheme, I had a light bulb moment! Why don’t we elope? He loved the idea, I loved the idea and both of our families were extremely supportive and knew that this would be perfect for us. Together with our 2 beautiful children, we wanted to make this special occasion an intimate and heartfelt one, dedicating our lives to one another without any added pressures. Walking down the aisle with the 2 most important human beings in our lives, I cannot begin to explain how special this moment was.

I wouldn’t quite say that I am a perfectionist, but I certainly do dedicate a lot of energy into the finer details. I wanted our wedding to be timeless and elegant with a hint of personality on the side. I had a lot of fun collecting fresh flowers from a local flower shop and styling the mantle in our apartment with my wedding details. My daughter loves the colour pink and her only request was that we had pink flowers, so I couldn’t resist a few pink peonies!

Why Paris? Why not?! It is the City of Love after all. With its intricate beauty and romantic backdrop, I couldn’t think of a more perfect location to say “I do.” Planning an elopement in Paris is easy, especially if you have the gorgeous and vibrant Yanique from Elope in Paris on your team! She took care of every fine detail, from locations to makeup and everything in between, she was an absolute pleasure to work with!

For Chris and I, finding the perfect photographer to capture our special day was imperative. As our family and friends weren’t there with us on this joyous occasion we wanted to be able to relive the day with them through still lives. When I came across the most stunning images I had ever seen on an Instagram page (@audreyparisphoto) I knew that we had found the one!

With Audrey’s eye for detail and knowledge of Paris, she captured our day exactly how we had imagined! Now I have the most amazing photographs of my very own fairytale wedding.

From Tamara Gruner Photography and Weddings of Excellence in ProvenceThe delicate rays of the late spring sun cast a mesmerizing spell on the vineyards and surrounding rolling hills. The winding stream waltzed to the tune of the gentle breeze. Nestled in such a whimsical landscape in charming Provence is an elegant and magical piece of land – Blanche Fleur. Adorned in her Nany’n dress the bride started the day by gracing an ancient chapel. Glowing in candle light, all around, she paused to reflect on her magical day. Delicately holding her bouquet of ivory roses she gingerly walked down the aisle – decked with candles – to her beau. Dressed immaculately in his blue tuxedo, the groom was waiting to hold his charming bride. The arch, decorated with pink and white peonies, was the ideal backdrop for an intimate ceremony. The table setting for six, under the veil of an arching tree, was lavishly decorated with roses, peonies and hydrangea, candles, and drift wood. Exquisite hand calligraphed menu and place cards embellished the place setting. The guests were pampered with a wide array of Provençal culinary delights. The day was long gone but the couple strolled in each other’s arms – romancing. They stopped by the vineyards, listened to the rhythm of the flowing brook, and paused to dream. A dream that is now filled only with roses.
