Best Wedding Backdrop EVER!

I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that it’s often a bride’s fashion choices, or the delightful reception details that grab my attention more than others. Well, not here. Simply put, this ceremony rocks. Our creative Groom and his future father-in-law created one amazing backdrop that his beautiful Bride didn’t see until she took that walk down the aisle. Aria Studios captured every bit – all in our Vault this way!

From the Bride… George and I first met in Los Angeles in 2010. George is a typographer and I’m a photographer. After many years of seeing each other’s imagery, we finally put together our first art show, “Passage”, in 2013. It was within the process of creating together, that our love grew. Collaborating is still very much a part of our relationship, so planning a wedding together was something I knew we would both enjoy!

When my parents asked us what we wanted our wedding day to be like, we told them we wanted to bring our family and closest friends to enjoy the beauty of Maui. I used to live on Maui when I was a young girl, so it has, and always will be, a second home to our family. Once we set the beautiful location at the Royal Lahaina, our entire family got to creating! Another great part of planning was finding my wedding dress with my mom in Colorado. The amazing staff at Emma & Grace Bridal put together all my wedding dress wish list items with their in-house designer! From start to finish, it was one of the most unique and memorable experiences for a bride to have! It was truly my dream dress.

Planning a wedding can be a very daunting task. There are so many essential items (Save-The-Dates, invitations, RSVP cards, ceremony/reception decor, favors, etc). In browsing endless websites, we gathered as much inspiration as we could and decided to make everything we needed instead! Invitations, Save-The-Date postcards, RSVP’s, ceremony programs, reception signs, wedding favors, etc. All were conceptualized and created by George and I.

One of the most special pieces created at our wedding was our ceremony backdrop. George and my father worked on this for several months in secret, and the first time I saw it was when I was walking down the aisle. George drew the canvas and my dad built the entire structure and stand. It was a breathtaking moment. To have that as a backdrop to our entire wedding, is something we will remember forever.

Our incredibly talented friends also lent their crafts to making our day a true celebration. Sorah Yang is a dear friend and the first time we ever heard her sing was when she graciously volunteered to perform at “Passage”. We were immediately moved to tears. Having her sing our wedding entrance and first dances was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. Also, present at “Passage” was our MC, Amanda Suk. Sukie is one of my best friends and having her MC our wedding was such a natural fit. Pukalani Hula Hale (the group I danced for as a young girl) performed. The Company (Daly City, CA), a dance crew George was apart of for nine years also performed. DJ Druskee, a dear friend to both of us, brought our reception to life. Adam Vida also blessed us with a surprise performance.

Capturing all the handmade details, performances, and moments in between was no easy task. A family friend recommended Aria Studios and we couldn’t be more happy with the imagery taken by their remarkable team. Holly and Jonas are a dream team. They moved seamlessly through a few schedule changes and truly captured the feeling of our day. As a photographer, I know weddings can be stressful and difficult, but I am so blown away with their team’s talent!

We can confidently say that we made our wedding a true celebration of who we are as individuals and together. Nothing at our wedding was pre-packaged for us. We enjoyed having a hand in creating art pieces for all aspects. So much of our union is a testament to the support of our friends and family, and we were honored to have them there to celebrate with us!

From Aria Studios… Tori and Glenn wanted a wedding that emphasized Hawaii and was fun and comfortable for their guests. They chose the perfect location at Loulu Palm Estate on the North Shore of Oahu, complete with horses, empty beaches, and a killer sunset.

I love that Tori incorporated deep berry tones for her wedding that popped against the lush green estate. Tori was stunning in her deep back Willowby Watters gown and all the girls wore barefoot sandals from Forever Soles.

The warm Hawaiian breeze fluttered the long ribbons against the floral arch as Tori walked down the aisle to Glenn. I can’t handle how adorable they were when they first saw each other!

While Tori’s family attended locally, Glenn’s family and friends all traveled from the East Coast for the occasion. Pineapple signature cocktails and soft pink proteas kept the Hawaiian theme alive and elegant amidst the cafe lights, clear top tent, farm tables, and gold accents. The newly joined families danced the night away on the outdoor dance floor with Tori and Glenn surrounded by their favorite people and the twinkling Hawaiian starlight above.

At the Halfway Point Between Their Two Hometowns, This Bride and Groom Said “I Do”

For this New Zealand Bride and her New Jersey Groom, getting married in Hawaii wasn’t just pretty, it was practical with its location halfway between both of their hometowns. With guests in all white, Keren stunned in a beaded blush gown, which made for beautiful beach photos on the beach at sunset. From The Bride…How and where did you meet? A mutual friend of ours asked a group of us to help him review a restaurant (he’s a food blogger) – that was the first time Adam and I met and we spent the whole night talking behind the back of the guy sitting between us – we were inseparable! Adam asked for my number at the end of the night and we went on a date the following Saturday and the rest is history!

How did he propose? At the Taj Mahal in India

From Moana EventsKeren from New Zealand, met Adam from New Jersey, while they were both living and working in Singapore. This fun-loving and well-travelled couple decided to have their dream Jewish destination wedding in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, which was the half way point between the bride and grooms hometowns. Loulu Palm Estate, which offers gorgeous oceanfront and mountain range views, was the perfect location that provided the tropical elements the couple wanted for their romantic wedding day.

In a private ceremony, before their wedding, Keren and Adam signed their Ketubah, a document that outlines the husband’s obligations to his wife, that they had specially made from Israel. Guests were asked to wear all white allowing the bride, who was stunning in a blush pink gown with sparkling embellishments, to truly be the center of attention. Keren and Adam provided specially made light pink yarmulkes, embroidered with a yellow and pink hibiscus flower, for the men to wear. In true Jewish tradition the couple was married under a wooden chuppah, adorned with creme and blush flowers and solidified their union with the breaking of glass. During cocktail hour, guests were able to choose from five cleverly named specialty drinks, including a “ Mazol Tov Mai Tai” and “Singapore Sunset.”

For the reception guest were invited to sit under a clear top tent partially draped in white silk fabric and adorned with crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling. Guest tables were arranged in a “U” formation and decorated with blush tablecloths. The centerpieces included clear, textured glass and wooden vases that were filled with creme and blush flowers and accented by dark green foliage. The couple was married on the first day of Hanukkah and conducted a menorah lighting during their wedding reception. In honor of their Jewish culture, the couple and their guests danced the Hora and had the blessing of the challah by the rabbi. For dessert, guests were treated to Malasada’s, a delicious Hawaiian doughnut. Surrounded by loved ones, Keren and Adam danced the night away which was the perfect ending to their dream wedding.
