From the deep pink astilbe to the red charm peonies to the purple haze dahlias, this bouquet is an explosion of cheer. You might recognize it from this berry-colored Oahu wedding from The Great Romance Photo we featured at the start of 2015, which, needless to say, left us in a love-daze. After running into this beauty again in THE VAULT we called on the creator (and LBBer!) Passion Roots, to give us the breakdown.
- Deep red hanging amaranthus
- Red charm peonies
- Gilbert barthelot peonies
- Le baron dahlia
- Chocolate cosmos
- Deep pink astilbe
- Eloquence sweetheart rose
- Dutchesse de nemour peony
- Sunset clematis
- Black magic roses
- Purple haze dahlias
- Seeded eucalyptus
From the designer, Shilhi Seibel, owner of Passion Roots… I was able to work with our beautiful destination bride, Casey, through her event design company, A Good Affair (based out of Southern California). I am a floral event stylist working on Oahu, Hawaii and was honored to be chosen to create a boho-wild look for this stylish, chic bride. From the moment we had our first consultation meeting over the phone, Casey knew the tone and look that she wanted for her special day. There were yards of cream muslin cascades, asymmetrical geo gems, scatterings of vintage brass accents highlighting long rows of family style tables, and beautiful watercolor calligraphy art welcoming each guest setting, all set against a serene Hawaiian oceanfront display. I knew that this carefully curated vision was going to require exquisite blooms to accentuate the stunning backdrop.
We were commissioned to create wildly romantic, hap hazard, organic-free flowing arrangements with a stamp of sophistication and elegance written all over it. In reality, placing all the different colors and textures together was challenging, yet so inspiring as it pushed me as an artist, working with a multitude of different mediums. To be honest, in this industry mass production can come easy when we are hit with the daily grind of business. The research and time placed into choosing just the right complimenting bloom was a rewarding process.
For Casey’s bouquet, I concentrated on keeping her berry base with accents of red, merlot/wine and lavender tones to create a lush garden look with playful sophisticated features. This beautiful bouquet was truly made out of love.

Happy Saturday, loves! When this romantic tropical bouquet popped up in last week’s Romantic + Traditional Hawaiian Wedding Inspiration I knew I had to get the scoop on all the stunningly lush pink and white florals that went into this beauty! Thankfully, Maui-based floral designer, Christina Hartman of Wildheart Flowers, was more than willing to share, and we’ve got all the deets below!
- 2 Sprays Pink Phalaenopsis Orchids
- 5 Stems Light Pink Shell Ginger
- 5 Stems White Tuberose
- 9 Stems White Ranunculus
- 5 Stems White Parrot Tulip
- 4 Stems Dracena Foliage
- 10 Stems Maidenhair Fern
- 3 Stems Alpinia Foliage
- Adorn Hand-Dyed Silk Ribbon (3″ and 1.5″ widths)
From Christina Hartman… The bouquet was created to be very tropical, soft and romantic. Although our usual ideas of tropical florals are bright and bold, there are many different textures and softer colors in the tropical blooms and foliage. As my love of flowers has evolved, so has my need to look at what I can use that is growing at my back door; what is in season, and what is the environment in which they will be experienced.
With the historical Haiku Mill as the backdrop, replete with its rich heritage of “Old Hawaii”, creating something that felt ‘local’, tropical and romantic at the same time was the focus. Working with O’Malley photographers was nothing short of a dream. They captured the Mill and all the softness we were hoping to create beautifully. When we began discussing the concept for our shoot, we kept centering on the idea of capturing the essence of Hawaii, and its beauty, but not its typical beach wedding vibe. We wanted to tell a story that felt rich in local tradition. The bouquet is composed primarily of locally grown materials. So, by using what is growing here on island, we easily establish a sense of connection to this magical place.

From O’Malley Photographers... We recently photographed a beautiful and intimate wedding on the island of Oahu. The bride and groom reside in Portland, Oregon but opted to have the wedding on the bride’s grandparents’ property near where she was born. It’s a stunning property overlooking Lanikai Beach and the ocean. The reception was held at the historic Moana Surfrider in Honolulu, with gorgeous florals by the talented Passion Roots.
