My fiancé and I recently made the decision to honeymoon in Hawaii. We’ve been craving those pretty Pacific islands for quite some time now, so it was sort of a no brainer. And after seeing this insanely gorgeous shoot from Wendy Laurel, I have no doubt that we couldn’t have made a better choice. From Mandy Grace Designs bougainvillea beauties to the oceany shades of blue, this gallery is dreamy as ever.
From Wendy Laurel… Maui is a land of rain, sun, clouds, wild ocean, sometimes all within a few minutes. Wendy Laurel, Couture Events Maui, and Mandy Grace Designs teamed up to create a natural wedding inspiration reflecting these elements of Maui. Set at Cliff House in Kapalua, the natural surroundings of dramatic cliffs and deep blue ocean provide a gorgeous backdrop away from the landscaped resorts and bring us back to the real Maui.
We wanted to use florals found naturally on Maui that were inspired by the wild and free natural environment. An abundant table runner of various ferns, an oversized fern bouquet, haikus of ferns and the bright pink bougainvilla leaves were made by Mandy Grace. The table place settings are set directly upon the rocks on the Kapalua Cliffs with the ocean as their inspiration. Various blues in the napkins and plates combined with a cloudy ocean foam salad plate and the seashell inspired charger reflect the colors of the ocean right below. The silverware is a hammered metal and the wineglasses have blue and cracked glass. Miss B Calligraphy hand wrote the paper items using Hawaiian words on a blue paper. “Aloha Aku No, Aloha Mai No” means “I give my love to you, you give your love to me.” The drink tag “Ho’olaule’a” means celebration and the place cards “wahine male hou” means bride and “kau lio” means groom. “Kipona Aloha” on the announcement means “deep love”.
The Dahlia dress by Sarah Jenks flows with the tradewinds and has a free and twirlable feel and look from the beaded and embroidered leaf tulle with handkerchief skirt. Shoes are not needed as the ocean calls. The blues and greens of the ocean change minute by minute as the sun shifts in and out of clouds and the waves come in. Its a natural transition from cliffs to water in this location and too beautiful not to go into the sea.
