Maui Wedding from Lovely Leaf Studios

July 21st. 2010 by Erin | Filed Under | 12 comments

Are you all ready for a little getaway to the gorgeous island of Maui? Since most of us can’t up and leave, we can instead live vicariously through this paradise infused wedding at a former sugar mill. It is filled to the tippy-top with tropical DIY projects and of course, a stunning couple. Lovely Leaf Studios captured the magic and  they have a lot more where this came from in the gallery.

We opted for a destination wedding to share a deep and personal experience with our family and guests. We already wanted to have a classy, romantic and intimate wedding. We vacationed together in Maui with friends once and loved the old Hawaiian vintage charm and beautiful sunset in Maui. Last year September we went back to Maui to scout some vendors and venues for our wedding. Our venue Haiku Mill is a beautifully restored old sugar mill located in Haiku State – North Shore, Maui . We found the site online and when we visited the grounds, we immediately fell in love. The four, very tall ivy covered walls are left standing and create an incredibly romantic, intimate and unique setting.

We wanted to make sure our guests were able to notice our personal touches. Stationery, centerpieces, wish tree, favors are DIY with help of friends and family members. It was lots of work, but it made the whole planning process very memorable. I had a personalized hanger and cake topper made from etsy.com. Everyone had a fun with props at the photo station and enjoyed groom and bride’s signature cocktails and appetizers with local flavors such as spam musubi and row bar during cocktail hour.

After sunset, during reception many candles were lit with chandeliers and people were blowing soap bubbles dancing away. It was a magical night!

I love that even though this was shot in Maui, it's not the typical beach or ocean shots. The little lanterns with candles as placecards are super cute!
