Color Palette Contest, Day 1

Today is day one of our color palette contest! We had a HUGE response to this...literally hundreds of entries. Although I so wish that I could post each and every one, I have chosen to feature those that I felt would "show" the best on the blog. We are going to be posting a stream of palettes all day, every day for the entire week. Because Friday is a holiday, we are going to extend the contest into the beginning of next week, with voting on Tuesday. In the meantime,  am sure that the designers would love to hear your feedback!

Let's get right to it with  Entry #1! Here is the Michelle Rago image that inspired this reader...

Color Palette Contest!

I just wanted to remind everyone over the weekend that we are having a Color Palette Contest here on Style Me Pretty! The challenge is to find one picture that completely inspires you...whether it's a pretty picture from your favorite magazine, a snapshot that you took on a family vacation or just an image that you stumbled upon that you love. Anything goes. Then, create a color board inspired by that image!

Color_palette_pink_orange_yellow_2

Original Image by Sarah Kaye, photography by Chris Everard, Invitations by Ceci NY, Yellow Dress Yoana Baraschi on Bluefly, Flowers by Ariella Chezar, Couple photographed by Amanda Kraft

The color board should be formatted similarly to those that I have featured on Style Me Pretty, using 5-8 images within 2 wide columns. I've found that this is the best layout for our blog format.

You can submit word documents, power point docs, jpegs or pdf files (jpegs are preferable). The deadline for entry is Friday, June 27th and I will feature my favorites on the week of Monday, June 30th. We will all vote for the winner that Friday. The prize will be a $250 gift certificate to the online store of your choice (must be US based and have the option to buy gift certificates online)!

All boards should be emailed, along with the original image that inspired the design, to abby at style me pretty dot com.

Color Palette & Contest

Here is the last color palette for today, inspired by the gorgeous lemon yellow image by Michele Michael...

Inspiration_by_michele_michael_yell

Original Image by Michele Michael, Stationery by Moontree Letterpress, Caviar and Yellow Votive on Brides.com, Boutonniere by Petal Pushers, Yellow Dress on Nordstrom

Yellow is such an unbelievably cheerful color. It is the perfect palette for a Spring or Summer wedding, and yet today...I wanted to look at bringing the hue into a more organic, earthy vibe. I love the infusion of rust in the men's tie and the base of the lemon centerpiece. A tailored bridesmaid dress, hobnail candle holders and pretty yellow stationery bring kind of an vintage, ethnic charm to the look.

A Contest! So, after a fun day of color palettes, I thought that it was time to put this same challenge out to our readers! After all, some of our most innovative inspiration boards and real weddings are designed by YOU guys. Here's the deal...

Find one picture that completely inspires you...whether it's the colors within the image, the style or just the general feel that you get when you see it. Then, create a color board inspired by that image. The color board should be formatted similarly to those that I have featured today, using 5-8 images within 2 wide columns. I've found that this is the best layout for our blog format.

Whitney English Contest

So, it's time to announce the winner in the Whitney English contest!

Whiteny_english

Here is the comment , written by Kiely, that we chose to receive the 100 digital photo cards & 50 personalized note...

"Navy blue and Kelly green accented with pink and white.  It’s a take on southern charm, but with traditional navy blue.  I was thrilled to read of Whitney English's save the date line. Perfect timing!!"

Thanks so much to EVERYONE who entered the contest!

Contest Winners!

I thought it was time to announce the winner of our Four Season Films contest...which was a HUGE success. The team at Four Seasons got a ton of feedback and some really wonderful responses from brides and grooms to-be...exactly what they were hoping for!

Congratulations to Julia and Dean, the grand prize winners, who are receiving a cinematography package worth $10,000 and a $500 American Express gift card to help with the travel expenses. Julia and Dean are getting married in Puget Sound at the GORGEOUS Kiana Lodge. Their proposal story and the meaning that their wedding would hold was just too sweet to resist!

Four_season_winner

""In August 2007, Dean left for an early morning "meeting" which in actuality involved a flight to St Louis to bring home a little bulldog puppy, a dog we had always dreamed of owning. When I arrived home from work, Dean was there and he said "I have to be honest -  I didn't have a meeting this morning. I've been talking with this girl in St. Louis who I went to see today. She is in the kitchen and I want you to meet her" and then he gave me the puppy who was wearing a pink collar with a diamond ring attached. It was one of most overwhelming and happiest moments of my life.

Dean is an only child and I am the only daughter, and I feel that this is the reason why our wedding should be chosen. It is an incredibly emotional time for our parents and to be able to look back at a Four Seasons Films' time capsule of the day would be so meaningful to not only us but most importantly to our families."

Four Seasons Films is offering 20% off any of their film packages to all of those who entered the contest. Simply enter SMP20OFF in your information request! A HUGE thank you to Four Seasons Films for allowing Style Me Pretty to help host the contest!

Hello! Lucky Save the Dates

Hello_lucky_header

And now for the winners, from Hello! Lucky..
.

First Place Winner: Joanna - Rustic garden casual theme inspired by the nature of the Chesapeake Bay:

My ideal wedding style is rustic garden casual. We are getting married a year from June at an Inn outside of St. Michaels, MD, which overlooks the water. The Inn dates back to the 17th century and has been renovated, but still reflects the colonial style of this historic fishing town. The barn on the site has yet to be renovated and the fading red paint on grey, old barn wood is a perfect place for pictures!

The Inn itself is pale yellow, so it’s guiding our color choices. Our other color inspirations are blue as in the Chesapeake Bay and our treasured blue crabs and green for nature. Right now we’re leaning towards mostly ivory with pale green, yellow and blue accent colors.

I’m a “green-collar” worker, so I’m excited to incorporate as many environmentally friendly options into the wedding as possible. Natural elements also work well with the wedding colors. I want to highlight the Chesapeake Bay through its stunning nature – birds, flowers and other wildlife. Also, since most of our guests will be coming from out of town, we want to make them feel at home and let them know about all of the fun things to do in the area, like shopping for antiques, crabbing, bike rides, and the Maritime Museum. My fiancé and I are still in the inspiration stages now, but I’m excited to pull together our dream wedding.

We love the image the 17th century yellow inn and old red barn, and the idea of incorporating design elements inspired by the flora and fauna of the Chesapeake Bay. We also love Lynn's vision of having a green wedding and would love to incorporate natural and recycled materials into the design!

Runners up: We'd like to offer runners-up free custom design services in addition to the 25% off we are offering to all entrants!

1) Mimi - Airline theme

We loved all the thoughtful details of this wedding, including using "Fly Me to the Moon" as the first dance! We can envision so many great save the date ideas for this, including vintage travel posters, luggage labels, or tags. We would love to design for this wedding!

2) Jenn - Sailor Jerry Tattoo inspired design.

We love the image of the swallow and heart and the banner "i carry your heart." So sweet!

3) Stacy Hamilton - Kentucky wedding with a vintage horseshoe motif

We love the idea of getting married at the Winner's Circle of a race track, adore the color palette, and love the idea of the vintage candy buffet!

* * *

Thank you so much to our readers for making this contest happen! I am thrilled to say that Hello! Lucky is going to design save the dates based on our winner's concepts, regardless of whether or not they place an order, and they are going to make sure that you guys get to see the finished product. Can't wait!

Save the Dates by Hello! Lucky

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Since we've had such a nice time with our TWO weeks of Unique Weddings, it seemed almost sad to just start the day with a regular post. Instead, I figured we could all use a little contest pick-me-up!!

The OH-SO-TALENTED girls over at Hello! Lucky are giving away 100 letterpress Save the Date cards to one lucky Style Me Pretty reader! Pretty good contest, isn't it?

Save_the_dates_by_hello_lucky

Here's the deal...simply answer the following three questions in our comments section from now until this Friday, May 2, and you will be entered to win a set of 100, single color, letterpress save the dates. To give you an idea of just how great this giveaway is, these would normally run you close to $400!

Okay, here are your questions...

How would you describe your ideal wedding style (modern, vintage, etc.)?

What color palettes are you loving right now?

What motifs or themes do you envision being part of your wedding?

Can't wait to hear what your feedback is...there is nothing better for a small business than hearing direct market feedback so that they can create products that you will love. The girls at Hello! Lucky will choose their favorite answer as the winner!

April 04, 2008

Contest Winner!

I am so excited to let you guys know that Tara Andrews has chosen a winner for last week's pearl contest! She is giving away either an 18" strand of potato pearls and coordinating earrings OR a $75 gift certificate...reader's choice. So the winner is Jill K who wrote:

1. Yes. I will wear pearl earrings and possibly a pearl necklace.
2. I'm not sure which category I fit into. The wedding ceremony will take place in an amphitheater in the woods - the reception in a rustic lodge-type building, so I want my jewelry to have a vintage, romantic look - nothing modern or sleek.
3. $100-150 or more, depending on whether or not I'll wear the pieces in the future.

Jill, if you could send me a quick email (abby at style me pretty dot com), I will put you in touch with Tara so that you can pick your prize!

Thank you so much to all who entered. Tara feels like she got such wonderful feedback, which is so valuable for a small, just-starting-out company. I know that all of your words really gave her some great ideas for her new line!

Our silhouette invitation line, Sophie, is really taking off. For the new season, we wanted to offer it in a secondary color with personalized silhouettes! But we just can't decide which palette we like the best!

Here are the options (click on them to make larger)...
