From Brinton Studios… We met Matt and Kati about 7 or 8 years ago – really at the beginning of both of our careers in the wedding industry. Downstairs, in a dark basement, we told Matt how much we hated DJs that brought banners to weddings (yes, that really happens). Matt quickly ran up to his booth and tore his down after Kati agreed. Since then, he and his Elite DJ team have become the premier DJ company in Denver with incredible setups. But more importantly, we have continued to be great friends. We’ve met family, we’ve traveled together and now we have the pleasure to say we’ve been a part of their wedding. We knew it would be a quaint affair with a lot of music and a lot of fun. They both had a love for Steamboat so it was an afterthought to get married up there in a new venue for us – the Bella Vista. With spectacular views and a very inviting pool (see pool photos below), Kara with Love This Day Events helped put together this soft romantic gem.

Matt and Kati, thank you for being friends, business colleagues and just great people. It has been an immense pleasure being with you over the past years.

From the Bride… I didn’t really dream of my perfect wedding as a young girl growing up, but I can truly say I ended up having my perfect wedding without even knowing it. Looking back, the wedding was everything that we hoped it would be, and we felt that it represented us as a couple because it was warm and welcoming, simple but classic, and more than anything it was meaningful and fun! The most memorable moment for me was standing with David during the ceremony and watching our God parents read the readings we had picked out, and watching our nephew play the version of “Amazing Grace” that he composed on the keyboard as he sat in the doorway of the historic barn behind which we were married. In close second was my dad’s toast at the reception that had all of the guests laughing and crying at different times, and meant the world to David and me. Things that we incorporated into our decor that I loved were the lighted hanging grapevine balls in the tent, kraft paper signage, and colorful menu/thank you’s that we put at each place setting. The Hawaiian singers we had play during the cocktail hour were a special surprise for David that he didn’t know about until after the ceremony. We danced to ‘Give Yourself to Love’ by Kate Wolf for our first dance because I loved the message and thought the melody was romantic and beautiful. I did most of the day-of printing myself. The programs, thank you/menus, place cards, and table numbers I assembled myself by backing them with kraft paper, cutting and tying the ribbon, and rounding the corners. I have my twin sister to thank for all of the design work!

Steamboat Springs Wedding from Brinton Studios

I know you can’t plan the weather for your big day (oh, if we only could control that one thing!) but even if this couple could have planned the weather, I don’t think they could have picked anything more perfect than this. The overcast skies made for the perfect backdrop for the Colorado wedding, letting those pretty pink flowers pop and the happy, loving faces take center stage. Brinton Studios captured this bit of Mother-Nature-cooperating magic, and let me just warn you to get your Pinning fingers ready, because this gallery is filled with absolute beauty!

From the photographer… A huge thank you to the whole Colorado Wedding Company team for putting together this spectacular wedding!  Catamount Lake is a beautiful location in the summer.  Steph and Matt were married on July 7, 2012.  They were both stunning and the monsoon season held off to give us some incredible shooting weather!  I think this wedding will go down as having the absolute best vows and one of the most scenic ceremonies ever.  From the tent to the chandeliers to the cornhole, this wedding had it all. We loved how the couple incorporated their alma mater to the day.,.there were plenty of fans here and they all had one thing in common; they were cheering on Steph and Matt!  In whole, their day was beautiful and we were so happy to be a part of it!

With a little more from Elysium, your sure to fall in love with these two…

We’ve always been travelers and have explored dozens of countries together. Whenever we reflect on our adventures, the highlight of every journey is the people we’ve met along the way. People who’ve let us into their families, their homes, and their culture. We knew from the start that we wanted our wedding to be all about the people, so we started with ourselves. Amy grew up in the quaint and beautiful mountain town of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, while Chris grew up right outside Washington, DC. So, with some inspiration from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” we started our planning with the loose theme of small town girl (location, attire, events) meets city boy (food, drinks, music).

Since almost all of our guests would be coming from out-of-town, we knew our wedding weekend would be about more than just the ceremony and reception. We started things off with a homemade BBQ on Friday night (courtesy of Amy’s father), and we all headed to the Steamboat Pro Rodeo after. Seeing all of our friends and family dressed up in their country best was a major highlight of the weekend. While Amy got ready on Saturday and the groomsmen went shooting, many of our guests went on a horseback riding trip, while our incredible vendors made our wedding venue all come together perfectly. The venue was a quintessential ranch in Steamboat Springs, complete with a barn, a lake, and the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.<

Our wedding and reception was more amazing than either of us could have ever imagined. Maybe it’s because the wedding was all about the real “us.” Maybe it’s because the 130 friends and family we had there are some of the most amazing people in the world. Maybe it’s because we focused on the people and experiences that led us together when planning ever last little decoration. Who knows what it was, but at the end of the night, our vision was complete. We had a tearful, yet funny, ceremony (Amy’s dad even handcuffed himself to her at the alter… no joke). We enjoyed amazing cocktails (thanks to Bourbon and Branch), ate incredible food from around the world, and EVERYONE danced the night away. Oh, and a shot-ski managed to show up and send everyone off with a true Colorado experience.

Ultimately, despite our different backgrounds, our free-spirited attitude and deep desires to pave our own paths led us to create a truly unique and memorable experience. Though, whether it was our vintage engagement photos, the photos we put on our website, reading our vows from our iPhones, or serving milk and cookies instead of a cake, there was no shortage of conversations with our families about breaking the wedding norms they had been expecting.

If we could pass on one piece of advice, it’d be to spend as much time as it takes to find vendors who you love and trust. We gave no instruction to our photographers or videographers and empowered them to do what they do best. We let our rental companies set up the tent however they thought looked right. In fact, after 20 minutes on the phone with our florist, we left all of the decisions up to her… we didn’t even know what flowers we were having until we showed up at he ceremony. The right vendors allow you to forget about all the unnecessary details, and let you focus on what really matters.

Steamboat Springs Wedding from Brit Stewart Weddings

Bride in boots. What more do I need to say?? Handsome-as-can-be groom? Horses (that one usually gets me)? Charming rustic details? Heavenly florals? Adorable redhead in shades? How about… completely chic Colorado celebration filled with bold blue hues?? Whatever words come to mind when you see this wedding, we know that beautiful will be one of them. Planned and designed to absolute perfection by Brit Stewart Weddings and photographed by the talented Michele Hart Photography this Rocky Mountain affair is sure to leave you speechless. You can see even more right here in the gallery.

From the Bride… Nate and I started thinking about our wedding day the day we got engaged. Our first thought was that we needed to locate the wedding in Colorado –although I’m from Georgia and Nate is from Wyoming, Colorado is our home. All in all, our primary goal for the day was to share a big celebration with our friends and families. We knew that a Georgia wedding would exclude a lot of Nate’s family and our Colorado friends, and a Wyoming wedding would exclude a lot of my family and our Colorado friends, so it was easy to decide on Colorado for our wedding.

We loved the idea of a vintage and rustic style that captured the Colorado spirit and blended the casual wedding style of Wyoming with the formal wedding style of Georgia–that’s all. It was also important to Nate and I that we kept the wedding as eco-friendly as possible. Our first vendor pick was Michele Hart for photography. Although we wanted to keep our vendors local to our location (which we hadn’t picked yet), photography was one of our priorities and We found her on the Green Bride Guide and just loved her photo-journalistic style and beautiful compositions. We also loved that she strives to keep her environmental footprint to a minimum.

Our next big decision was location. We wanted a mountain town and we just love Steamboat because of all the activities there, the town’s eco-friendly vibe, and it’s ranching and skiing history. We wanted a ‘ranch-ish’ location, but were struggling a bit to find one that was available on our weekend. A waiter told us about a wedding he had gone to at Perry Mansfield and said it was a beautiful location–we checked it out and fell in love with it! It was the perfect setting that we were hoping for and had the added bonus of on site cabins.

With a growing guest list, a venue that required a bit of logistical prowess, and a destination wedding, we also knew we needed some help. We found Brit Tucker Stewart, a wedding stylist and planner, on the Green Bride Guide and immediately liked her attention to detail, style, and commitment to the environment and marriage equality. She helped keep us calm and on track for the many planning months and details ahead. Our caterer,The Drunken Onion, was an easy choice because he provided a seasonal, organic, and local menu for us to choose from. Ben created a colorful and creative menu for us, incorporating some of our favorite foods (beets! peaches!) and serving them family style.

Our wedding day was special for so many reasons – from the time spent with bridesmaids and groomsman in the morning, seeing Nate for our first look, saying our vows to each other in the presence of so many of our special friends and family, to dancing the night away. Nate and I memorized our vows over the weekend, so we were super nervous about reciting them and messing up. Even though we’d practiced saying them to each other dozens of times before the ceremony, hearing them from Nate and saying them in that moment was so easy and natural and felt so right. Neither of us flubbed!

The reception was every bit the party and celebration we were hoping for–the band was fantastic, the food and wine were perfect, and the whole room and ambiance was delightful and fun. Our favorite moment was… all of it.
