Colorful Outdoor Celebration after the Storm

After torrential downpours and terrible flooding in Colorado, somehow, this gorgeous wedding was pulled together and without a cloud in the sky. It’s all sunshine and smiles photographed by Sara Hasstedt plus an amazing display of citrus colored blooms by Clementine Divine Designs. See it all unfold right here and be sure to catch this affair in the Smitten Mag Spring Issue debuting April 15!

From the Photographer… Morgan & Andrew’s outdoor wedding took place on September 21st, 2013, the last official day of Summer. Just a week before their wedding in Denver, much of our state of Colorado was ravaged by flash flooding that lasted for several days. Many areas, including many wedding venues, experienced great loss and devastation because of it. Fortunately, their venue was one of only a few wedding venues in Colorado that seemed to escape the catastrophic flooding that others experienced. Metaphorically speaking, their wedding day was a rainbow after the storm. A perfectly sunny, 70 degree day in Denver with only the whitest cotton candy clouds painted across a perfectly blue sky, none of us could have dreamt of better circumstances. They had a sun-kissed afternoon ceremony on the lawn, followed by an evening reception under a large tree strung with bistro lights in “the round”.

Southwest Desert Bridal Inspiration

The Southwest desert is one of those regions that gets all too overlooked in wedding world. With its raw, natural beauty and unsuspecting charm, it’s no wonder Ashley SawtelleLa Bohéme EventsBare Root Flora and Chairished Vintage Rentals choose it as the setting of their latest styled bridal shoot. We’re getting cozy in the gallery and you can read on for even more!

From Ashley Sawtelle… Brides are always looking for ways to incorporate new and interesting ideas into their receptions. We came up with the idea for the “The Blossom Bar”- a fun way to include guests in the festivities and encourage them to use a little DIY creativity with the help of a floral designer. We asked Bare Root Flora to design several fresh flower crowns and boutonnieres as inspiration for this Blossom Bar at which guests could design and create their own simple crowns and boutonnieres as both an activity and a favor.

For flowers, we wanted something lush in contrast to the sparse beauty of the high desert landscape, providing a color palette that beautifully complements such incredible surroundings. Our flower crowns featured gorgeous ranunculus and spray roses with accents of dried poppy pods, scabiosa pods, berries, succulents and stunning eucalyptus foliage. Understated bleached peacock feathers completed the look for our bride’s flower crown. The Blossom Bar featured the same array of lush blooms to tie the look together, but still allows for creativity and individuality as guests create their own look. This soft color palette and natural scenery is complimented with a pop of stunning color–Pantone’s color of the year for 2014, “dazzling blue.”

We often get the chance to see a gorgeous outdoor farm or mountain wedding in Colorado. For this shoot, we wanted to show off another side of Colorado’s great outdoors – the desert beauty of Red Rocks. We can’t help but love this romantic dress by Sarah Seven (found at a&be in Denver), shot against the Red Rocks landscape by Ashley Sawtelle Photography.

Peach & Red Valentine’s Day Shoot

This, loves, is exactly the way we should all be spending our Valentine’s Day: an amazing day of pampering, baking and cuddling.  Because this gorgeous photo shoot from the talented team of Cori Cook Floral DesignTalia Events and Jill Carter (to name a few) is, well… awesome.  And it’s as pretty as it is luxurious (seriously).  See it all captured by Michele Hart right here.

For their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple our model, Kelly, wanted to do something extra special for her husband, Mike. She reached out to her wedding photographer, Michele with Michele Hart Photography and asked her to come up with an intimate photo session and surprise date for the two of them. Michele turned to Rachel from Talia Events who assembled an amazing group of vendors to bring their vision to life.

It was important to us that the style of each scene and the day as a whole be romantic without being the default Valentine’s Day box of chocolates (don’t get us wrong, we have nothing against chocolate) and dozen red roses. Instead, it was to be the manifestation of an ideal day of preparation; a glimpse into what it might look like to have an abundance of luxury, time and beauty to get ready for a sweet date at home.

The entire shoot was set in the background of the lovely, historic home in downtown Boulder of Paige from Blackburn Design Interiors. A talented Interior Designer, Paige was also a gracious and welcoming hostess.

We began in the intimate setting of their bedroom. Our woman awoke to a bed strewn with flowers and a calligraphy love note handwritten by Christi of Christi Johnson Calligraphy.  After a trip to the local market to purchase an armful of blooms, our character created floral beauties to scatter throughout the house and a centerpiece to top the date night table. Cori and Liz of Cori Cook Floral Design incorporated lots of romance, texture and richness with touches peach and coral in their creations as a new spin on the traditional Valentine’s Day red.

With blooms in place, she moved from flowers to baking. Topped with an artistic, edible sugar and gelatin peach and embraced in a net of spun sugar, Kim and Jake’s Cake created a lovely and delicious cake for two.

Washing away the preparations of the day, she melted into a dreamy bathtub surrounded by blooms and topped with a cascade of peach, pink and red garden roses spilling over the side. From the look and feel to the smell, it was absolute bliss!

Preparations continued with date night appropriate hair and makeup by Keegan from Steele the Spotlight and wardrobe styling by Jill Carter. Keegan ensured our model looked flawless throughout her day while Jill dressed our character in clothing that spanned from romantic, but comfy jammies upon waking, a chic, put together outfit for baking to a “wow” gown for the evening’s events.

As evening came and her husband arrived, she made a grand entrance down the home’s staircase and the date commenced. Our couple enjoyed a slice of cake and glass of champagne before moving to the living room for a slow dance and sweet embraces.

At the close of the shoot our model, Kelly, captured her day saying she’d felt “pampered like a princess”… like every woman should on Valentine’s Day.” It truly was a dream day—filled with the right amount of pretty, a dash of style and plenty of romance!
