The lovely Megan Fickling of La Partie Events in Santa Monica is stopping by today to share some of her favorite tips for designing your flowers around your wedding venue.  An approach that is so important to creating a wedding that is cohesive and effortlessly fabulous.

When choosing your wedding flowers, keep the style and feel of your venue in mind.  Ask your florist to do a  walk-through of your venue with you so that s/he sees the space and works with it, not against it.  This next venue is close to my heart 1) because it’s the beach and 2) because it’s my own wedding!  This is on Topanga Beach in Malibu, CA and as you can see, I wanted a lot of color.  In my bouquet, I used bright pink peonies and mini pink amaryllis.  In my bridesmaid bouquets, I used white garden roses, white peonies, mini pink amaryllis, bright pink sweet peas and green viburnum.

If you’re just tuning in, I’m guest blogging today and sharing what a difference it makes when your flowers complement your venue. This venue is the Mountain Gate Country Club in Brentwood, CA.  The ceremony was outdoors on the golf course and the reception was indoors in a very beautifully inviting space.  The bride Michelle wanted mostly white for her bouquet with a splash of light pink, which matched her dress perfectly.  In Michelle’s bouquet, I used white and blush pink dahlias, white garden roses and white freshia with a blush pink raw silk wrap.

Well, we gave you a sneek peak of Rose’s to-die-for Vera Wang gown last night {here}. This is what Rose had to say about it …

I shopped one day for dresses. I knew pretty quickly that this dress was the one. I tried on more to be sure, but knew I’d probably end up with that first dress. It’s a Vera Wang, although that’s not why I bought it at all, it just happened to be the dress that fit me the best. It was flattering, gave me a waist where I don’t really have one and it seemed unusual.

Yellow reminds me of Summer. Obviously. It’s one of those colors that just makes me happy…that makes me want to break out the lemonade and have all of our friends over for a great outdoor affair. Well, that is just what the team at Sillapere did for this ridiculously lovely Summer inspired wedding…

Based in the Bay Area, Nicole Sillapere is one of those florist whose talents completely blow my mind. Hanging perfect calla lilies as garland, draping a chandelier with lemons and perfect greenery, making a sea of white chairs look like something out of a fairytale, with pops of yellow adding a little bit of charm. Every detail that she gets her hands on is both innovative and ridiculously gorgeous. For me, Nicole is the definition of genius.

THIS BRIDE wanted to do something fun and fashionable … BEFORE the wedding … while her excitement and enthusiasm were ripe! She told her photographer that she didn’t want a typical ‘trash the dress’ shoot, but something fresh and quirky. Straight out of Vogue. Together they found an old abandoned girl’s college in New York. THIS BRIDE wanted a vintage shoot, oozing with glamour … set somewhere at the extreme opposite end of the fashion world. Marisa and Jeremy met through mutual friends one sunny July day at Rye Beach and they’ve been together ever since!

Their wedding photos were sent to us by Little Black Book member, Linnea, of Tangorra Wedding Planning in Boston …

They were married on August 8th, 2008. Marisa & Jeremy took advantage of this special date by celebrating their wedding in beautiful  downtown Boston!
