Oh, and then there’s the amazing Konditor Meister out of Braintree. Don’t let the name scare you, people; it’s German for pastry master and that’s just what these people are! And I say that from experience because I’m lucky enough to live right around the corner from these cake geniuses. Günther, the owner has been training since the young age of twelve, so you are guaranteed to get a delicious and gorgeous creation custom designed just how you want it.

Last but certainly not least is Delicious Desserts on the Cape. Pastry chef Lisa is the real deal. She’s won three medals from the Food Network Cake Challenge and has fun, whimsical flavors for you to try like chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter. And of course, she does the classics too! Her cakes are gorgeous creations and will make your guests drool just at the sight of them!

1. Who is Bella Cupcake Couture? And what is it exactly that you do?

Bella Cupcake Couture offers “Fashion for cupcakes”. We created chic and stylish textile-inspired cupcake wrappers for all special occasions. Our boutique-style designs add a touch of sophistication and elegance for any event. Each cupcake wrapper is printed with soy inks on recycled paper. So we’re not just a pretty face, we’re also eco-friendly. We are frequently complimented on our quality and great service. We are very proud as it is at our core to provide the best styles, service and products! Our hope is that our Bella Cupcake Couture wrappers bring smiles to our clients and the ones they care about.

2. Why cupcake wrapper design?

I have always enjoyed having friends & family over for special parties. It’s fun to think of all the little details that will make them feel extra special. One evening a friend complimented me on my party planning and décor skills and she wanted to know “how to do it?” I started thinking how could I make it easier for her and others who want to have parties but aren’t really baker/party planner types. Then I somehow became obsessed with wanting something fashionable for the bottom portion of my cupcakes. I always said “Why should the frosting have all the limelight?”

Now it’s easy for someone who does or even a person who doesn’t enjoy baking. They can simply bake or buy a cupcake and set inside to add that instant decoration every party planner is looking for.

3. What is your favorite kind of project to do?

We enjoy being a part of our client’s special events. We work frequently with brides and party planners who put together the best table displays for their clients. It’s important to us that they receive a “Wow” response from their guests and we make it so easy for them to create a beautiful table top display or incorporate into a candy buffet. We enjoy helping our clients to plan different color combinations and designs which will work together. We also enjoy hearing what new designs our clients would like us to add to our collection. We received so many requests for zebra print and cheetah that we knew we had to add it to our line. And now they are one of our best sellers.

4. What is your absolute favorite part of a wedding?

The cake of course! Every cake display is so different, we enjoying seeing how creative couples become when having their cupcake/cake display designed. From soft subtle elegance to bright & cheery. I also enjoy when they have a special song playing while cutting their cake. You also get a glimpse into the couple on how they “share” the cake; will they be kind and not smush the cake in each others face or will their playful side come out? It is definitely one of my favorite moments (aside from then eating the cake, of course).

5. What advice do you have for the newly engaged?

Plan a wedding that is perfectly “you” together. Tell a story on the day that speaks to how you met and what your life together is and will be like. It’s easy to add little details that mean something to you both together and that your guests who know you both well will adore. Then just relax and enjoy!

From Bella Cupcake Couture & Crinoline & Tweed … This enchanting Paris-inspired tabletop display provides a peek inside of an intimate setting for two and is the perfect setting for one of the most special occasions – an engagement.

Bella Cupcake Couture in a collaboration with graphic designer, Astrid Mueller, had her create a proposal card which incorporated into this elegant display. We all imagined an evening scene in a Paris Cafe where a couple after sightseeing stopped by for a glass of red wine and dessert and he popped the question.  We pulled the color scheme from the proposal card and went with an Art Nouveau theme bringing in lush black and white prints accented with highlights of red.  Emici Bridal provided the silk flower brooch which we pinned to the napkin to create a surprising way to present the engagement ring.

Miki of Clara French Ceramique created an elegant tiered cake stand which was filled with cream puffs, eclairs, and beautiful berry tarts baked by Tallant House.  Trophy Cupcake baked up an assortment of pink frosted lemon raspberry and vanilla cream cupcakes which were set into black and white Lu Lu damask cupcake wrappers created by Bella Cupcake Couture. The flowers were arranged by Romanza Floral. This romantic tablescape was styled by Crinoline & Tweed  who also created a napkin band and floral wine glass coaster to compliment the setting. All photos were beautifully captured by Red Box Pictures –truly magnifique!

This elegant setting will make you and your guests feel like they are celebrating at a European Villa tea party.  We chose a lush cheery color palate of spring greens, blush pinks and buttery yellows and accented it with soft vintage floral motifs found on the vintage tea cups and tea pots collected.  Throw pillows, a rose table runner and cloth napkins were custom stitched to bring a custom touch to the table design.

The delectable entremet chocolate cake baked by Tallant House is sitting atop a Clara French scalloped pedestal ready to be served on her matching darling dessert plates. We nestled the vintage tea pots in between towers of Trophy cupcakes, a vibrant flower arrangement created by Romanza Floral and french macaroons by Tallant House.

Crinoline & Tweed’s handmade pillows spruced up a vintage couch and matched the gorgeous macaroons perfectly.

Each setting was dressed with its own one of a kind vintage tea cup, springy green dessert plate by Clara French a top a cream and gold vintage plate.  Crinoline & Tweed also made hand made dessert napkins and wrapped them in silk ribbon and found the perfect gold dessert flatware to match the gold etching on the cups and teapots.

The sweet place cards designed by Astrid Mueller welcomed each guest and also thanked them for attending this sweet affair. With so many Trophy cupcake flavors to pick from these are perfect for a shower setting as each guest can select her favorite flavors.  They look so pretty on the Clara French pink tiered dessert stand.  Each cupcake is dressed up in a Bella Cupcake Couture cupcake wrapper to match the color scheme.  This is a perfect theme for an intimate girly shower to celebrate with close friends and family.

A popular wedding color theme is Silver & White. Perfect for a couple who likes a clean, chic style or is planning a Winter Dream occasion.  This tabletop setting features a gilded silver mirror  as a sparkly backdrop which creates a modern Scandinavian style for the table softened with some feminine cut crystal accents.  Our stylists, Crinoline & Tweed  loaded the table with lit candles to balance the coolness of the icy silver and glass.  Silver and white modern place cards and an acrylic cake topper were designed by Astrid Mueller.

Our overall goal was to create textural warmth of soft whites and silvers.  A silver charger was topped with simple white china and layered with a decorative floral etched glass salad plate.  An assortment of vintage silver, crystal, and mercury glass candle holders in different shapes and heights were collected and scattered between the flowers and dessert centerpiece.  Keeping with our Scandinavian theme, we chose a repetitive modern shape for the champagne flutes, water glasses, and vases.

The centerpiece of desserts was built using layered Clara French cake stands.  Our photograph of a beautiful lace wedding dress inspired the lacy fondant covered cake baked by Tallant House.  We chose a variety of Trophy Cupcakes in shades of white and cream nestled inside Bella Cupcake Couture wrappers in a variety of silver and white textile-inspired designs. The flower arrangements were provided by Romanza Floral. This setting was in an intimate corner of the Tuscan Tea Room.

An exquisite display of simple elegance- your guests will be captivated by the dessert display and have a hard time picking which little treat to indulge in first.

Who is Sweet Sweets Cake Art?

Sweet Sweets is modern, edgy, contemporary, and unique!

How did you get into cake design?

Being completely honest, I had never even thought of cakes! I graduated university with several degrees in political science, sociology, and criminology. I thought I was on my way to working on my masters and was pursuing a career in International Law.  And then I met the man of my dreams, and we got married. Soon thereafter, we had children. I decided I really wanted a career which would allow me to spend as much time with my family as possible, so a family friend suggested I try cake design and the rest is history. I’ve always been talented artistically, so it was a good fit. I seek my inspiration from pretty much anything and everything.

What makes Sweet Sweets Cake Art unique?

Everything we create is truly one of a kind! I do not recreate any piece.  Each cake, from sketch to creation, is truly created for the individual clients and compliments, suits, fits, and enhances their personality. When creating each piece, I try to draw inspiration beyond the items in the typical “wedding box” (i.e. invitations, dress, floral bouquet) and look towards nature, the fashion world, and the art world for inspiration.

What is your favorite kind of wedding to do, and what is your favorite part of the wedding?

I absolutely love working with all my clients! But I really know I’m going to have fun when my clients say three little words to me… “We trust you.” When I hear “Do whatever you want!” my creative juices really start flowing. I’m in heaven. There is nothing more special when a client trusts you to do what you do best.  It is truly the greatest gift and honor. As an artist, when a couple does allow you the artistic freedom to create their wedding cake, I find that I create some of my best work.

I can’t choose just one favorite part of the wedding. I have at least two. First, I love sketching out the cake – the reaction of my clients when they see their cake on paper is the best…many just cannot believe it and are so excited that this will be their cake.  Second, the thank you emails or pictures I receive.  They both really put things into perspective for me, and they let me appreciate the important role I play in my clients special day. I love it!

What advice do you have for brides and grooms to be?

I always tell my clients two things: no rules, and have fun.  There are NO rules when creating your wedding cake.  Anything can be done. There are no rules that say you have to follow tradition and do what you mother did. No, you don’t have to have a three-tier staggered round cake, and no, you dont have to have one flavor and, no, you dont have to have a cake topper.  The point is that it’s your cake and you do not have to follow any rules.

And remember have fun! Do what you want to do and do what makes you feel happy! Be inspired to create something that is all you and made just for you! I recently created a cake that was inspired by the couples love for camping and even the smallest details like the small purple flowers had fun memories for them.

What do you do, how long have you been doing it and what makes you awesome?
I am a baker, and I produce decorated cake for special occasions. It’s nice to be refereed to as a “cake designer” or even a “cake artist”, but I stick to the title “baker”. I’ve been providing my cakes for 15 years now. The business really became a reality when I built my kitchen in SoHo ten years ago.It’s hard to define what keeps me apart; maybe it’s the combination of obsessive details and techniques along with outrageous designs.

What sets New York weddings apart from weddings anywhere else?
The people of New York are very style-oriented, and put a lot of effort in planning for their weddings. There is so much talent available to choose from, so every New York wedding can be very unique.

What kind of weddings do you love the most and what is your favorite trend right now?
I really love them all – from an intimate gathering for 50, to a grand occasion for more than 500. As long as we have a strong concept and harmony with the couple, I would flip backwards to make them happy. As for trends, I’ve started using black as an accent on our cakes few years ago. This year it became a very strong trend. We’re also seeing a return to very tall cakes, that shamelessly tower over the bride.

What is your biggest piece of advice for people planning a wedding?
I alway suggest to be realistic about the expectations; budgets are made to be broken, of course, but only if the good will really make you happy. I always give the couple few design and pricing options, and never push them to choose one or the other.

Who are your favorite vendor friends in New York that keep your inspiration flowing?
Oh, I love the gowns I see curated by Mark Ingram’s Bridal Atelier, and also have enjoyed visiting Gabriella NY Bridal Salon for getting inspired by the newest and most creative gowns. We bring our cakes to many wonderful locations, but the New York Palace has been an continuous source of inspiration with the grandeur of the surroundings coupled with impeccable service and attention to details.

From the bride … Richard and I met in college, where I was the Dream Girl of his fraternity for two years. When we kissed for the first time, he told me he felt fireworks. Fittingly, he proposed on July 4, 2008 during fireworks.

We wanted a vintage modern feel. I wanted touches of old incorporated with new. I love vintage, but I have a special place in my heart for just timeless elegance. I used my grandmother’s cake topper, vintage pins for the bouquet with name pins of the important women in our families. I also used vintage cake toppers as décor on the tables. We had a piano player instead to keep with the old world feel.

From Kara with Pick Me! … I was so fortunate to be selected to coordinate and design Frances and Leo’s wedding at Devils Thumb Ranch. The bride and groom’s taste is absolutely flawless and this wedding was the highlight of my 2010 wedding season. From the Vera Vang gown to the song selected as the couple walked down the aisle, this wedding was visually stunning while also perfectly sweet and lovely.

Champagne satin tablecloths were accented with silver chivari chairs and chargers. Over 150 sprays of white phaleonopsis orchids were mixed with curly willow. Silver Mint Julip cups were filled with hydrangeas and floating orchid details were everywhere. Rusic iron lanterns with LED candles were hung from the rafters of the barn. And the bridesmaids bouquets were a lovely combination of green and rust colored cymbidium orchids paired with ivory roses.

From the bride … Since the wedding was held at a ranch, we decided to do very classic flowers and have a more traditional feel to the decor. We did not want a rustic feel to both the venue and decor, but hoped for the location and the decor to contrast. Something timeless.

We asked Leo’s brother to be the officiant and he picked verses and poems from different cultures to incorporate. Leo and I have both lost very important people in our lives. We started the ceremony with remembrances to them. My niece spun down the aisle as our flower girl and my Nephew wrote and read a poem that he wrote about love. Leo and I also wrote our own vows which was a very special element.

We knew that we wanted a venue with a very ” Colorado” feel to it; a place where our guests would be excited to visit. We were blown away by how gorgeous the setting at Devil’s Thumb Ranch was. It was a full weekend event. We even rented the private cabins for our wedding party and family, so that we could really spend time with our guests.

Jamee immediately made us feel comfortable. We loved how her photos felt natural but still had an artistic flare. Even when posed, she has a romantic style to her photography. She really knows how to capture the moment.
