SMP Loves…Mary Jurek Designs

I just got my Mary Jurek cake server set in the mail…and oh, my. It’s GORGEOUS. Sleek but not overly modern, organic but still incredibly elegant. It feels expensive, well made and would make the perfect accessory to any of the cakes that we feature on SMP. Take a peek at all of Mary’s gorgeous handmade (!) designs. Jessica Rust Designs

One of my very favorite artists, Jessica Rust of Rust Designs, just released her newest product and I HAD to share it with you!!

Isn’t this new gold accented line just beautiful? I have been a huge fan of Jessica’s since my dear friend Cat of Cat Seto introduced me to her work about a year ago (as a side note, Cat has a GREAT blog you guys should check out if you haven’t already). I love, love, love Jessica’s delicate but oh-so-chic styles and honestly think that any of her wares would make the PERFECT wedding gift.

The best part? She recently launched an online gift registry so your guests can help you stock up on all of her beautiful pieces. Along with her dinnerware, Jessica also has a nice variety of serving pieces that would accent just about any fine china or everyday pieces. These are my personal favs…

Come to think of it, I’m kind of obsessed with ALL of Jessica’s designs. The silhouettes are just about the greatest thing I have ever seen and the gold accented limited edition bowls are absolutely stunning (my best friend Katie ordered these for her parents as a gift and they were kind of amazing). Each piece that Jessica creates is understated and yet so personal. I just love that.

Wedding Registry by Bodanna

I have been really excited to tell you guys about the brilliant new registry feature at Bodanna Studio and Gallery…a non-profit organization that provides at-risk young adults with a place to thrive creatively and gain workplace skills through a handcrafted ceramics business. Ask Abby

Although this questions isn’t directly related to wedding style or decor, I wanted to share it with you because I know how difficult wedding registries can be!

Q5 – My wedding is set for June 21, 2008 (the Summer Solstice) and it’s time for us to register for gifts. Being typical NYers, we don’t have much space. So, I’m trying to keep our registry as simple as possible. That being said, I’m trying to decide whether to register for china. I have very simple everyday plates (white 365 IKEA plates) that I see no need to replace, but I am considering registering for “fancy plates (and cups, and saucers, you get the picture).

It would be great if you could do a post on China patterns. I am desperately seeking clean, simple china patterns (perhaps with a touch of whimsy).

A5 – I am one of those girls whose knees get weak when she shops for china. Registering for china was one of my very favorite things to do and really, it made me feel like SUCH a bride. So, I think that if you are looking for something simple, with a touch of whimsy, these patterns are perfect…

I have the Grand Gourmet by Vera Wang, though I ordered fun salad plates in a different, but coordinating pattern. I looooove them. The key to justifying china, however, is to USE IT! Break out the china when you have guests over for Chinese food or when you have an impromptu brunch with family. They are a bit more fragile than regular dishes, and shouldn’t be dishwashed, but a good set of china will last a lifetime.

One last note, I chose my china pattern to coordinate with my mom’s…if we ever need more, we have an extra set!
