For those of you who didn’t give into the urge to run off and frolic with your sweetheart here is an easy peasy guide to creating a fresh farm-to-table inspired look of your very own!

1.  In my opinion, the best favors are always edible.  Little jars of honey are the perfect country chic gift for your guests and will always remind them the sweet time they spent with you and your honey. Personalize them with these clever Spread the Love tags!

2.  The vintage button detailing throughout the shoot is not only adorable it is super easy to incorporate into the design of the day without breaking the bank.  You can usually find an assortment of buttons at thrift stores.  Just glue them onto your honey jars or on pieces of fabric to use as napkin rings.  This crafty team even added some to the bouquet wrap!

3.  I am loving the new Watters collections and this sweet little number is ideal for a fête out on the farm.

4.  My favorite piece in this whole photo shoot has to be that chandelier.  It adds a romantic, sophisticated touch to the rural tablescape.  The ivy and lilacs cascading off of it is absolutely stunning!

5.  There is something so playful and whimsical about the Vera Wang sash this lovely bride is wearing.  Adding a sweet detailed belt like this one from Twigs and Honey is such a fun and elegant way to spruce up a classic look.

6.  We love milk glass centerpieces around here!  They can be elegant, casual, modern or rustic.  I can’t go to a flea market or a thrift store without an armful to add to my own growing collection!

7.  Recently, I’ve seen pops of color being brought to the table not only in the flowers or linen choices but in the candles as well!  These organic honey candles tie in the theme and palette and I’m sure they smell amazing!

8.  Speaking of sweet smells, I can just imagine how delicious this whole shoot must have smelled with the scent of lilac wafting through the air!  It is the ultimate country chic flower and looks gorgeous in the milk glass vases.

9.  Striped straws are a trend that is here to stay…at least I hope so!  There are so many colors to choose from now so there is sure to be one that matches your color scheme!

10.  The little milk bottles are such a fun little detail and look oh-so cute with those purple striped straws!  If you don’t want to OD on dairy products you can find empty bottles in bulk right here!

From Angie Wilson Photography… Heather Dwight of Calluna Events and I (Angie Wilson Photography) paired up to plan and execute a farm to table themed wedding shoot.  After deciding on Frog Belly Farm (an actual working farm in North Boulder) as the location, we visited the farm to gather ideas and inspiration. Beehives, old wagons and trucks, tall trees, old watering cans and milk containers, farm animals and rows upon rows of herbs and vegetables were a few of the things that inspired us at the farm.  Our desire was that the design & decor fit with the farm but wasn’t too rustic or “farmy”. We focused on incorporating pieces and elements you’d find on a farm – the beehives, lilacs (which were in bloom during the shoot) and farm equipment – for a more DIY approach – but still incorporated elegant pieces to round out the feel into a warm, lovely, laid-back style.

Heather had wanted to incorporate buttons and fabric flowers into a wedding for some time. She had found inspiration for buttons in centerpieces and favors as well as fabric flowers in bouquets and boutonnieres and we loved the idea of incorporating these into the overall feel to tie the pieces together. Buttons were used in the centerpieces, on the trim for the napkin treatment and in the honey favors. Fabric flowers were handmade by the florist – Brighter Day Floral – and were incorporated into the bouquets and boutonnieres as simple treatments that blended beautifully into the arrangements. The old farm table with an assortment of eclectic chairs was placed beneath the branches of a tall willow tree.  The chandelier that hung from the tree featured florals and beeswax candles by Brighter Day Floral.  Our inspiration for the florals was to incorporate as many locally grown flowers and keep with the farm feel – however we wanted to steer clear of a full wildflower look.  We also included herbs to incorporate the “farm to table” theme. The arrangements were set in vintage milk glass vessels to incorporate an elegant but vintage farm vibe and to tie in our “milk” theme.  In keeping with the organic farm style the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere were wrapped in twine and buttons were added to the stem. Each place setting included the guest’s wedding favor—a small jar of fresh honey—topped with fabric and buttons and tied with twine.  The honey was actually provided by Calluna Events Associate Coordinator, Spice Jones, who in her first year as a local beekeeper yielded five gallons of honey!

We decided to partner with local letterpress extraordinaire Brad of Smokeproof Press. Heather had worked with Brad on several occasions and thought his design would be a perfect pairing with our theme. Brad went above and beyond by creating an entirely new suite of letter pressed pieces that modeled our farm theme. Menu cards were letter pressed with dotted lines, with the intention of handwriting the menu in pencil. These were then inserted in envelope “seed packets”. Also featured on the menu card was a perforated edge that guests could tear off to write notes to the couple. These notes were then hammered into an old farm board with rusty nails. Each letter pressed table card featured a different farm vegetable.

Lemon Sprinkle Events designed the dessert table—featuring goodies you might find at a local farmers market or roadside stand – honey sticks, mini bundt cakes, fresh picked cherries, cream puffs, cherry pie pops and more—atop an old wagon borrowed from the farm.  A DIY fabric bunting, button and paper details and handmade fabric flowers adorned the dessert display.  Smokeproof Press printed labels on wooden craft sticks to identify each dessert –in a similar fashion as the vegetables in a garden might be labeled.  The cake, pie pops and cream puffs were made by Slice, while the rest of the desserts were provided by Lemon Sprinkle Events.

The bride’s dress was a design by Modern Trousseau from anna bé (sash by Vera Wang).  Both the bride and groom wore jewelry designed by Todd Reed, a Boulder-based jewelry designer who specializes in raw diamonds and high carat recycled gold jewelry.

Well, the best of the best collaborated on this and wait til you see what they created! We have Momental Designs to thank for the amazingly creative styling and interpretation of the board. And where would we be without the show stopping photography from Sanderson Images? Nowhere, I tell ya! And the scrumptiously delicious desserts? Those are courtesy of the fabulous Lisa over at Delicious Desserts. And designing all those desserts is no easy work, but the peeps over at Desiree Spinner Events, pulled it off perfectly. From Kristy Rice at Momental Designs: I recall studying Dali in College. His surreal work is a mainstay in most beginner Art History courses and most of us recall his melting clocks and sandy landscapes filled with dreamlike imagery. In this shoot I was most inspired by Dali, the man and his expert use of color. Dali was a character to say the least; loved fussy detail and anything in excess. His existence was art; from the clothes he wore, words he spoke and movements he made. He was inspired by the nuance of life and found a way to pluck the most beautiful and enchanting details from everyday existence to make them artful and lovely. This shoot is just about that…how can couples look to their own lives for inspiration and infuse it into simple but striking details for their day? How can you craft a celebration around the stuff that makes you…you? In this inspiration scene we create sculpture from lovingly collected dishes, table linens are hand painted, a wedding dress becomes colorful expression and bouquets last forever as painted butterflies. We were also inspired by Dali’s collaboration with iconic fashion designer of the time, Elsa Schiaparelli, most known for her famed Lobster Dress. Words like, ethereal, dingy, dreamlike, sexy came to mind when visioning this shoot. Our inspiration board with its subtle reference to butterflies offered up a whimsical vibe needed in this otherwise moody scene.

From James Christianson… Janine and I had been talking about doing a styled shoot together for some time. With us both being Little Black Book members in Colorado, we decided that we’d create an Inspiration to Reality shoot using as many other LBB Colorado members as possible.

As we were contacting the vendors we wanted to be involved in the shoot, we still needed to figure out what inspiration board we wanted to use to drive our creation.  Janine had the fantastic idea of contacting Sofia of Brancoprata to see if she would be willing to develop a custom inspiration board for us to use for the shoot.  Sofia has such a talent for creating unique inspiration boards that we knew whatever she came up with would be beautiful fuel for our imaginations.  With the image of our selected Vera Wang gown from Anna Be, Sofia didn’t disappoint with her creation.

Quickly the team gathered and starting working on pulling together our ideas for making this inspiration a reality.  The feminine feel of the inspiration board would be the perfect contrast to the masculine and natural of the Sanctuary, our selected venue for the shoot.

From Bliss Wedding & Event Design… Bold geometric designs, paired with bright Clementine orange, crisp white and lush hints of green, inspired a fresh vision of a chic 1960’s wedding soiree.  We gathered our most beloved wedding artists to marry nostalgic 1960’s elements with modern day accouterments.

The bride sets the tone throughout her wedding day by revealing two distinct looks.  In the bride’s first look, she exudes regal, elegant composure in her Melissa Sweet gown (Sweet Carrine), paired with delicate strands of pearls, and a birdcage veil from Big Rock Little Rooster. For her second look, her charming Platinum dress by Priscilla of Boston (designed by Kenneth Pool) along with oversized pearls from Francesca’s, set the stage for a light-hearted reception celebration.  Throughout the day, her groom pairs perfectly with both looks in his classic white dinner jacket, black bow tie and black pants.

The stately Bryn Du Mansion was the ideal location for this bright, classic look.  The mansion has several expansive rooms, which haven’t been used in decades, which each feature the architectural character and antique details that served as the perfect backdrop for this nostalgic celebration.

La Tavola’s New York linen was the first, and most essential, part of the inspiration for the tablescape. The tiny, overlapping sequins created a texture that was reminiscent of fabrics from the 1960’s.  Next, we layered the look with colorful, vintage Viking glassware and a variety of fresh-cut floral arrangements, from Flowers on Orchard Lane, to add bright pops of Clementine orange and grass green.  The juxtaposition of modern and vintage glassware, replica designer Ghost Chairs, whimsical dinnerware and vintage metallic accessories, elevated the level of sophistication while still keeping the look fresh and approachable.

The delightful dessert table was a collaboration of the very best bakery artisans, including Jan Kish of La Petite Fleur, Pistacia Vera, Queen City Cookies and Cupcake Yum Yum.  Jan Kish designed the couture cake, for which she meticulously hand-sculpted the bronze sunbursts and applied each glittering silver ball by hand for a cake that is (almost) too gorgeous to eat!  She also provided the beautiful snowball cookies and the white chocolate and keylime cake truffles.  The light and decadent Pistacia Vera macarons are local favorites and their sugar-coated pate’ de fruit was a most perfect wedding favor. The adorable Clementine infused mini cupcakes and sweet powdered marshmallow clouds were designed by Cupcake Yum Yum.  And none other than Queen City Cookies provided the intricate and beautifully designed shortbread cookies.

When we saw this was the Inspiration Board our team got their motivation from, we couldn’t wait to see the finished product. I mean, we all know that a little animal print brings that special wow factor to just about any event. Edna at EFD Creative – Event Planning & Design saw this board and knew exactly how to create a luxe, safari wedding. The team at Paper Moss immediately started brainstorming ways to bring animal prints to their paper products. Christina from Studio 539 had the perfect motivation for her show-stopping florals. And Laura Ashbrook captured it all to the max! The shoot definitely lived up to the safari inspiration, thanks to all of the accomplished team (including three of our very own LBB vendors)! From the Paper Moss team … It seemed like there were endless opportunities for us while planning the paper suite for this Safari-inspired photo shoot! With so much going on color-wise in the flowers, we decided to go in a direction that would compliment. Warm neutrals and a simple design were a big part of the vision, but it was the textured zebra belly band and liner that really tied it all together. With our love of monograms and hand-drawn icons, we couldn’t let this suite sneak by without showcasing an adorable zebra, accented by the bride and groom’s initials, perfect for sending any couple away on their ‘lifetime safari’ together.

From Christina at Studio 539 Flowers … Working with a earthy color palette of brown and green, I felt the flowers needed to pop, and rich fire tones made me think of the heat of the jungle and dryness of the desert. Pin cushion protea, cymbidium orchids, parrot tulips and mostera leaves are just a few elements I used.

From Edna at EFD Creative – Event Planning & Design … As I worked through the concept I consistently thought about textures and layers along with earth tones. I didn’t want anything over the top, but instead a blending and incorporating of animal prints with stripes and spots, but careful not to draw too much attention to one item allowing the different pieces to pull it together. All the small touches combined allowed the safari vision to come to life!

From Jennie Kay at Jennie Kay, A Beauty Parlour … We were going for a timeless elegance with the makeup. I wanted a very clean face with a POP of color on the lip.

From Jasmin at Indivia Salon … The inspiration for our model’s hair grew from the safari themed photo shoot and the 1930s era of glamorous and sensuous fashion.  A loose wave framed our model’s face while a side chignon fell delicately at the side of her neck.  Images from the Great Gatsby and Out of Africa came to mind while creating this look.

From Kathi at Platinum Bridal Boutique … The simplicity of the Lea-Ann Belter bridal gown was beautifully accented by the hand pleated organza detailing at the bodice and hem and the feather detail at the waist.  The gown was the perfect backdrop for the bride’s vintage cuff and leopard print stole!

From Gina at Bonardi’s Formalwear, Inc … Inspired by the rich earth tones of nature, this chocolate Calvin Klein tuxedo is an elegant compliment to a champagne and ivory palette.

From Jennifer & Monica at Peterson Party Center … When approached about the safari inspired shoot we immediately felt a connection with the planner. We seemed to be completely in sync with her ideas and were able to pull from our collection perfectly colored linens and china & flatware that just hit all the right emotions. Touches of elegance were brought in by the black lacquered chiavari chair and the crystal stemware.

For this styled photo shoot we wanted to create the feel and look of a rustic winter wonderland. To accomplish this, we used a combination of white, silver, shades of blue, and loads of cozy textures.  Croney Cove Warm Springs is a hidden, charming cabin chalet set in the mountains of Sun Valley, Idaho.  We loved this venue; it was perfect for the feeling we were going for. From the vintage European flair inside the barn to the roaring outdoor fireplaces, it was a blast, and even a little surreal to create this shoot.

From Natalie at Chic Sweets … We teamed up with a handful of wonderful, Little Black Book Members, including MMD Events who provided all of the floral, (amazing) vintage furniture, and tablescape. With the lake as a perfect back drop -MMD Events wrapped vases in felt and wool to snuggle richly textured bouquets of ivory garden roses, wine colored cymbidium orchids and cranberry colored kangaroo paws. Skeins of yarn were used to accentuate the table, bringing a cozy element to the table décor. Two Russian antique embroidered chairs (from MMD Events) added the perfect old world touch and table number wrapped in twine, created by Lauren of Every Last Detail, struck the perfect note, adding a little bit of a rustic feel to the table. Linens by Connie Duglin in textured wine added a luxe layer. An escort card display was created using scarves, with the cards attached to a scarf using pins so guests would be able to easily remove the cards from the display.

The vintage sofa and coffee table came from MMD Events’ new vintage line of rentals – I Heart Vintage. Using unique antique pieces is a fun way to add your personality to your wedding. MMD accented the lounge with an antique jewelry box and a vintage Polaroid camera.
*DIY Tip: In order to add coziness and charm, fabric was used to wrap different vases. If you don’t want to use fabric, you can also use a scarf or a recycled sweater.
*DIY Tip: Escort cards can always be turned into something fun and unique by hanging them. In this case, MMD took the cards and attached them to the scarves, which ended up looking great. A word of caution if you’re hanging escort cards: be prepared if it’s windy!

Model/Ring Bearer: The look was simple: keep everything light and neutral, with a subtle undertones of gray and reds. The model’s makeup was kept light, including the hair which was accented with a simple, tan-colored band. Her dress was one our highlights. JCrew provided a dress from one of their latest designs. From the pleating to the mermaid silhouette and a subtle train, we were in dress-heaven. To top it all off, Naoki Jewelry parted with some amazing jewelry that pulled the entire look together. The bridal bouquet, by MMD Events, included the ivory garden roses, kangaroo paws and cymbidium orchids with a felt stem wrap. Wine colored Cymbidium orchids accented her swept back hair.
Alongside our bride, was our precious ring-bearer who enjoyed being model for a day, dressed in JCrew’s Crewcuts line. Again, the look was clean and simple.

Dessert Table: Sherri from the Pastry Studio’s work and artistic approach are amazing and as a dessert stylist, was totally thrilled to collaborate on our design with her creations. Sherri created a breathtaking cake, accented by a satin, pewter ribbon and striking red flower, echoing the image in the board. The remaining desserts from The Pastry Studio—cake pops, berry tartlets, macaroons, and mini-cupcakes (adorned with a heart) rounded out the spread along with gorgeous cookies (made by Better Bit of Butter) and some Chic Sweets’ candy.
In terms of the design portion for the table , we incorporated a wallpaper-print backdrop, using a great ivory-damask print from Graham and Brown which was perfect.
*DIY tip: I get asked often about how we do our backdrops. We took a white hard board, which can be found at any local hardware store and backed it with 2-in foam. Total cost for the board was no more than $25.00. The wall paper covering was cut in strips and attached on the board by just pinning it back with pins. If you didn’t want to use wallpaper which can be expensive, wrapping paper can be used as well.

Printed Materials: It was great to collaborate once again with Laura from Two Yellow Shoes. From the menu cards and labels on the dessert table, to the invitation and response card, she just ran with the design. Amazing.

The Film:
The team of Voila Cinematic created this gorgeous video for us and we were just blown away. There is something great about the SMP Inspiration to Reality series which allows you to work with the best of the best in the wedding industry.

Voila was not only able to capture the beauty of the set but also framed the playful scene for the bride and her adorable ring bearer as they walked around, holding hands. Precious.

I can’t take any of the credit for the design, but with that said, ANY film or wedding that we get to work with Salt Harbor Designs, our films always stand out. I can’t speak for Jenn at Salt Harbor, but she felt like a winter shoot would be a great resource for brides that are having stylish weddings outside of the normal wedding season. I LOVEd the eclectic feeling of the Brooklyn Arts Center. The feathers, earth-tone colors and especially the wardrobe of the bride and groom really shouted STYLE. The Arts center is over 100 years old, so the brick, candlelight and wood really created a vintage feel.

Although the use of the real baby Quails was very romantic, my favorite part of the film is the “foot washing” ceremony. A biblical reference, but it’s still one of the most SELFLESS acts you could do for somebody regardless of your religious beliefs. It is the perfect example of serving your mate and putting them before yourself. We have seen it at a few Southern weddings in NC. It truly felt like a dream sequence when the groom washed the bride’s feet.
