Weddings this perfect are the reason I l.o.v.e my job here at SMP. The reason I jump up at the first sound of my alarm, eager to dive into all of the day’s pretty. It’s also the reason I spend quite a bit of time lost in the gallery. Because this wedding? This charming affair mixing traditional details and a laid-back elegance that seriously can’t be beat? It’s amazing. And you can soak in every last minute captured beautifully by Illusions Media right here in the full gallery.
And don’t miss this breathtaking film from Illusions Media for even more pretty…
How did you meet?
Jess’s version: One summer night during undergrad, I was invited out to a friend’s birthday celebration to go bar hopping with a few of her friends whom I hadn’t met yet. My friend said that she knew “a guitar playing guy” from Burlington whom I’d meet – little did I know he would be my future husband.
Cheng’s version: We met on a lazy summer night when a friend of mine tried to persuade me to go out to the bars by telling me that there was a “pretty Korean girl” in the group. Jess was that girl, and I realized my friend had really understated how pretty she was. I must have been so bedazzled that I was slurring my speech on our introduction; it took her three tries to hear my name correctly. Although, I guess I could pass for a “Chad”, or “Jack”.
Engagement story: Cheng’s version: Jess was out on a work trip to Washington, DC, for an entire week and I felt this was my only chance to make preparations for a proposal. Weeks beforehand, I did my reconnaissance to figure out details like what her favourite foods and wine were at the time (these things are subject to change of course). For the day of, I fancied our place up with two dozen candles, Calla lilies, white and red rose-petals, a lovely bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and my most carefully prepared meal ever with duck confit cassoulet and goat cheese cheesecake. I went to pick her up at the airport that night, nervous about proposing but equally so about burning our home to the ground with so many unattended candles.
Jess’s version: When Cheng picked me up from the airport, he told me that he booked a dinner reservation at a restaurant close by our place. I thought it very strange since he doesn’t normally make dinner reservations. Nevertheless, I agreed we could drop by our place first to drop off my luggage and change. When he opened our front door, I was stunned to find flower petals strewn about the apartment and dozens of candles. However, at first I totally didn’t clue into that he was about to propose and I thought he had just made our place really nice for me to come home to. I figured it out when he dropped to one knee!
Your best wedding moment: Our MCs (Best Man and Maid of Honour) surprised us during the reception by singing a duet (accompanied by live guitar playing by the Best Man) that they’d been secretly practicing.
Wedding song: You and I (Michael Bublé). We had a very difficult time picking a song and this is the one that finally broke the stalemate! It worked well because neither of us knew the song beforehand, and when we heard it for the first time together, we both had the feeling it was right.
Menu: Appetizer- Roasted butternut squash and apple soup; Entrees were steamed lobster tail, scallops and mussels and saffron risotto with fire roasted peppers and brandy lobster cream sauce or Herb crusted rack of lamb, cabernet braised shank lamb jus with pulled shank risotto and ratatouille vegetables or house-made truffled ricotta ravioli with basil pesto and shaved reggiano. Desserts were our own wedding cupcakes from Cake and Loaf (sour yet sweet natural red velvet beet with classic cream cheese icing)
Honeymoon: Two days in Barcelona and a seven day Mediterranean cruise (Spain, Italy, France), followed by a week in Paris!
