We can’t help but blush at this English garden-party themed wedding. The keen eyes at Devoted to You Weddings helped coordinate the stunning event with the bounty of blooms provided by Mimosa Flower Studio (the bride and groom provide the love and happiness part, too, of course)! From The Bride…George and I celebrated our eight year anniversary shortly before becoming engaged. We already felt married, but it wasn’t official. When he got on one knee, I could already picture in my mind the ultimate wedding; contemporary English garden.
If I had to describe our wedding style I would say it was romantic, intimate and timeless. I am not a low-key person, but I like elegant and simplistic design. It was important that every detail was perfectly planned, and our guests would enjoy every moment.
The flowers and decor were incredibly important to us. We wanted soft colours with a bold design. My favorite flowers are lilacs and peonies, and we planned our May wedding around their blooming season. I gave our florist Jenn a basic idea and entrusted her to do a wonderful job. She definitely did not let us down. We wanted a romantic and lush feel to our ceremony, and the night tables for our ceremony altar were purchased second hand and painted ivory to match our decor. Our reception room was equally stunning. The rooms were transformed with accents of lace, soft pinks and pastel florals, dozens of mercury votives and tons of candlelight. It was both romantic yet whimsical.
The dress was not a difficult decision. I tried several dresses on, but I already knew in my heart what I wanted. Early 2012 I stumbled upon the Pronovias website and saw my dress. Finding one in a store near home was almost impossible, but I knew once I found it that it would be magic when I tried it on. I wasn’t disappointed when I saw myself in all that lace.
Making sure my Bridesmaids were happy was equally important. I wanted my girls in a soft, romantic colour, and blush pink was a perfect shade to complement all three. I wanted their personalities to show through, and it was important to me to let them choose their own dress. They all looked uniquely beautiful, each with different styling: one in diamonds, one in pearls and one in gold.
I knew I wanted to change my gown, so George and I changed together; he from his black tuxedo jacket into an ivory smoking jacket reminiscent of early Hollywood, and me in my ivory sweetheart ballgown complete with birdcage and red lips. At first he was hesitant to change outfits, but he received many compliments from our female guests and quickly changed his mind.
The reception was a blast. Our food was absolutely incredible. Our pear salad was a stunning starter, and there was actually a period of silence when everyone ate the cheese ravioli! We finished our night with speeches by the dual Best Men, which left me laughing, a heartfelt dance
with my Father which left me in tears, and several hours of dancing the night away to our favorite songs of the nineties and beyond.
In the wee hours we munched on poutine, pizza, hundreds of pastries, and finished off with the perfect ending: all of our guests piled onto the dance floor to dance to Dirty Dancing’s ‘(I Had) The Time of My Life’. And it certainly was!
