From Gush Weddings & Events… Ben and Erica’s wedding took place on the most gorgeous summer day on the lake front of Ontario at Frenchman’s Bay Marina in Pickering. The Lake House sat right next to the Marina and made for the perfect backdrop for their outdoor ceremony. Ben and Erica really wanted their day to be all about their guests having fun, but also a day filled with personal details and whimsy flair. Their colours of navy, fuchsia, blush and gray carried seamlessly through out every facet from the invitations to the bouquets right down to the table settings. Guests were treated to hors’ douvres and cocktails following the ceremony on a balcony that overlooked Lake Ontario and then enjoyed a four course meal in the window-filled hall of the Lake House while being thoroughly entertained by the Emcee, the groom’s brother. A photo booth, as well as late night sweet station were also a big hit and made for one exciting party.
This was one of those weddings that every planner dreams of and we were so honoured to be a part of it. They say a picture paints a thousand words and this couldn’t be truer thanks to the talent of Alex Lee at Young Hearts Photography. Congrats a million times over to the happy couple, Ben and Erica!
From the Bride… Ben and I first started dating over 12 years ago, so for many, this wedding was a long time coming. We knew right off the bat we wanted a laid back, good time kind of wedding, something that all of our guests from young to old, from friends to family would enjoy. When we laid eyes on The Lake House, on our first venue search, we knew we had found the perfect place. The view could not be beat and the idea of having everything happen in one location was exactly what we were looking for. Since our location was tucked away in Pickering, Ontario a ways away from the bustling downtown core, we set up a shuttle bus that would bring guests from a nearby hotel to the venue in time for the ceremony and home after a night of partying.
We opted to do all of our pictures before the ceremony so that we could spend cocktail hour with our guests. Alex Lee, of Young Hearts Photography, set up the most perfect and private “first look” moment for us on a small trail near the water. I had always wanted a princess style dress with lots of tulle and that’s exactly what I ended up with. Ben absolutely loved it and when he turned around, I will never forget the look on his face.
Our ceremony site was absolutely picturesque with the guests facing out into the marina. Ombre pink rose petals lined our aisle leading to two vases of bright, beautiful and luscious pink and white flowers coupled with a perfect blue sky and the calm water as a perfect back drop. Since my father had passed away a couple of years earlier my younger brother stepped in to walk me down the aisle but I made sure to take my father along for the walk too. I had a small metal charm hanging from my bouquet with his initials and the saying “wish you were here” engraved on it. Two of my favourite country songs ushered my bridesmaids and myself down the aisle. Ben and I had created a personalized, short and sweet ceremony to convey our love and commitment in front of our nearest and dearest and then had another playful country song take us all back up the aisle.
Cocktail hour immediately followed the ceremony inside the Lakehouse where the most delicious hors d’oeuvres were passed around. Guests were asked to sign a white frame around a picture of Ben and me, in lieu of a guest book, so we could hang it in our home as a constant reminder of all the love and support on that special day. Before the call to dinner, the girls of Gush Weddings & Events took us into the dining area for our own private look and we were blown away. Everything had come together even better than we could have ever imagined. The fuchsia napkins and white and pink centre pieces absolutely popped off the navy blue table cloths. Tucked into each napkin was a menu adorned with a special note of thanks to all of our guests from Ben and I. The fun and whimsical table numbers looked perfect beside the pink and white floral arrangements in varying small vases and flickering candles. My love for bling came through with two sparkling fuchsia panels on the head table. Our 4 tier, white simple wedding cake sat alongside our head table. We thought we had pictured the perfect reception area in our heads but what we saw that day far exceeded anything our imaginations had presented us!
Dinner consisted of four courses of our favourite foods along with a side of hilarity from each and every speech. Guests were treated to an original song written just for us by the emcee (Ben’s brother), a thumb wrestling war to declare just which of the co-best men actually was THE best man, a letter to our daughter from my maid-of-honour for her to read in 15 or so years so she knows just who her parents were when they fell in love and got married, sentimental speeches from both of our families and a beautiful sunset over the water through the wall to wall windows. We finished off dinner with our speech where rather than reiterating our love for each other we decided to make it about our wedding party, family and friends in the room and those that could not be there in order to make sure everyone knew just how important they were to us.
We danced our first dance to “I Could Not Ask For More” by Edwin McCain and in that moment I can honestly say that’s exactly how I felt. Guests then danced the night away, some only leaving the dance floor to take a few fun pictures in the 10 person photobooth or snack at the late night candy & sweets table full of all our favourite sweets and treats.
The day was absolutely perfect and we would not change a thing. We know it would not have been what it was without each and every one of our amazing vendors, the love and support of our family and friends and of course the undeniable talent of the girls of Gush Weddings & Events helping to bring everything together.
