Whimsical

From The Bride…Planning was fairly relaxed, other than a few wedding party glitches and eccentric family members everything went pretty smoothly. We wanted our wedding to be the same, just about the celebration. We wanted it to be whimsical and dreamy. The first thing we did was to pick our colors. I knew I wanted mint and ivory with touches of gold and coral. Relaxed, vintage romance, like a 1950s summer’s afternoon.

The first thing we booked was our venue, and we chose Summerhill Pyramid Winery because of the beautiful setting and many options for photo locales, including a “homestead” and old mint truck. The reception venue was cozy, complete with wooden doors and oak barrels. This combination provided the perfect backdrop for the day. We then found our photographers and the ??vision? all came together. They were just like our dream wedding – fun and full of love.

We decided to have all of the guys in suspenders and slacks, all light and airy, sleeves rolled up. The girls wore mint lace dresses of their own choosing. We weren’t sure how it was all going to come together until the day of, but it worked!

I wore an ivory lace over champagne satin Jim Hjelm gown. It was the first one I tried on and definitely fit the bill. I went with an “old hollywood” look for hair and makeup and I carried a whimsical bouquet of White Mums, Coral & Light Peach Roses & Seeded Eucalyptus.

I wanted soft candle light in mason jars to mimic fireflies around the venue with the sun setting in the background. We had country music, strawberry cupcakes, and little pots of golden honey for guests to take home. We put together a thumbprint tree, handmade quilt guest book and advice cards to help us remember the day.

The result was one that exceeded even our expectations and left us with fond memories for life.

Outdoor Engagement Session in Kelowna

Admittedly, I am having a hard time grasping the fact that it is already July.  I mean, weren’t we just bundling up in sweaters, complaining, err… talking, about the cold weather?  But if anything knocks me straight into reality, it’s this gorgeous e-session from Adrian Photographers, a day that is all about the summer sunshine with a big ol’ side of love and pretty to keep things really interesting.  See it all here.

From Adrian Photographers… An engagement session is the best when it’s an adventure. Driving around with Vancouver couple Melanie and Mario, we found a large open field full of hay bales. With the farmer out attending his field, he welcomed us onto his property. The vastness of the open sky and texture of the land enhanced their photographs and was the perfect spot to capture their fun personalities.

Vintage Wedding Inspiration

If there is one thing I know for sure, it’s that a rainy day in Canada makes for one seriously romantic setting.  Add some vintage-inspired goodness to the mix and, well… I am all sorts of twitterpated (that’s a word).  Especially when that vintage goodness comes from the likes of Natural Touch Wedding and Event PlanningVintage Origami and Sarah Beebe Photography.  See all of the lovely right here.

Romantic

From Sarah Beebe Photography… I was so excited for the opportunity to collaborate with Kelowna vendors for this vintage mock-up wedding project. This team has such amazing vision and creativity, I knew it was going to be good! I’m completely in love with the products from Vintage Origami Wedding Rentals and their retro styled look. Plus, Susanna from Modern Invitations made beautiful menus to finish the look.

Setting everything up with Melissa from Natural Touch Wedding and Event Planning was a lot of fun… even in the rain! It rained and rained but we didn’t give up hope. Our mock-up groom said to me, “We are rocking this out rain or shine, I will get my umbrella if I have to!” But he didn’t have to. Thankfully the rain stopped and we finished our setup. The table looked so lovely at the top of Ancient Hill Winery, overlooking the farms below. Finally, the sun came out! And it came out just in time for golden hour, my favorite time of day!

This was an absolute dream to shoot. I had a wonderful, supportive team and freedom to walk around the winery, not to mention a terrific bride and groom to work with. They’re so sweet and in love, the bride always giggling at her man. They seemed to enjoy every moment together and were such good sports, up for anything I asked them to do! Amy from Tie the Knot Hair Design did a fabulous job with our bride’s hair, creating a unique rose look. Bri from Bri Stein Artistry is so talented at makeup and made our bride glow with a subtle yet beautiful application. Thank you to everyone who made this vision a reality! Enjoy!

Vintage

From the Bride… The wedding planning began with the venue, which wasn’t a difficult choice. The Hotel Eldorado has been one of our go-to places for a great time spent with family and friends for quite some time. It has an elegant vintage feel, which was exactly the mood we were going for. Finding out that they had a new rooftop ceremony site sealed the deal and we didn’t need to look anywhere else. The rooftop has beautiful 360 degree views of Okanagan Lake and the City of Kelowna. We received many comments on how perfect the ceremony site was and it made for some gorgeous photos! The reception room was decidedly different from a typical hotel ballroom and was the perfect size for our intimate wedding. I fell in love with its distressed floors, terrace, and views of the lake.

The wedding theme was inspired by a Tiffany & Co. key necklace that my mother gave me as a graduation gift from university – the key to my future. It was very meaningful to have the necklace wrapped around my beautiful bouquet created by Christina Jenion of Classic Creations Floral Design. My fantastic decorator, Yuriko Larson of Vintage Origami, helped me to execute a “Love is Key” theme with vintage skeleton keys and hits of lace and milk glass. The keys were also featured on the boutonnieres. In our ceremony, Dustin and I referred to the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris where lovers lock keys on the bridge and throw the key into the Seine River, which was such a special activity for us on our honeymoon in France. I love neutrals for home décor and holiday decorating, so stayed true to my taste with blushes, whites, creams, and metallics. Sugar cookies have always said “celebrate” to me, so we had skeleton key shaped ones made by Sarah De Francesco of Sarah’s Sweets as part of our dessert selection. Our dessert table was one of my favourite parts of the décor, along with the chandelier and lounge area on the terrace. We loved reading our guests’ responses to our “What is the key to a successful marriage?” activity in lieu of a guestbook, which were written on wooden tags stamped with gold keys.

Instead of spending a lot of money on a dress I would only wear once, we decided to splurge more on items we knew we would use again, such as my nude Christian Louboutin shoes and Dustin’s Burberry suit/shirt/tie. I am very grateful for my wonderful friends who recently got married and were nice enough to lend me the beautiful long veil with lace trim and Elsa Corsi earrings and bracelet. The veil really made me feel like a bride and made for some of my favourite photos with it blowing in the wind. The bridesmaids dresses were from Aritzia, which is my absolute favourite clothing store where I have spent a lot of time (and money!) with both my bridesmaids.

I actually saw our musician/singer, Cassandra Bangel, on Style Me Pretty and immediately recognized her from seeing her live a couple times in Vancouver. As soon as I found out she did weddings I asked her if she would come to the Okanagan and she agreed! One of my favourite moments of the day was walking down the aisle with my Dad to Cassandra singing “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles, a song I grew up listening to. Another was listening to her music while eating dinner and looking out at all my family and friends and the amazing lake views.

Another one of the best moments of the day was our first look, located on one of the oldest properties in Kelowna. Walking around opposite sides of the barn to meet each other was something I will never forget. I am so happy that our photographers captured Dustin’s emotion perfectly to make sure that is the case! The barns on the property definitely made for some of my favourite photos as well.

All in all, it was a perfect day – from getting ready with my bridesmaids in our Love Ophelia robes (which I discovered on Style Me Pretty!) to dancing the night away!

British Columbia Wedding from Heidrich Photography

When Audrey Hepburn is your wedding day inspiration, you can pretty much guarantee a drop-dead gorgeous soiree.  Because Audrey?  Well, she screams classically chic and that’s something that goes hand in hand with beautiful weddings.  Take for example this gorgeous day from Heidrich Photography, which was planned by the stunning bride with only “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and a whole lot of sophisticated details in mind.  From the gorgeous florals from FlowerScene to the breathtaking La Casa Resort setting, it’s the perfect way to marry the man who is “better than your dreams.”  See it all in the full gallery.

From the Bride… To say that every girl dreams of her wedding day, from an age you could count on one hand, is not something that could be true of me. Every time I’d have the opportunity thrust upon me to think about it, I’d just feel overwhelmed. The only thing I could ever settle on, was that my dress had to be timeless. Other words I used to help me dream up my day were classic and fabulous! I felt the classic movie, Breakfast At Tiffany’s, screamed all three of those words, and with a fashion icon like Audrey Hepburn, the vision was born.

It was also very important to me that our day wasn’t one-sided, and that my to-be husband didn’t feel emasculated by osmosis. Therefore, I tried to keep our decorations simplistic.

While oh -so-central, my favourite part of our ceremony was not the vows, the rings, or the kiss (although all were special), but that we washed each other’s feet. In our faith, it is a representation of not only regarding the other as more important than yourself, but that because Jesus has served us in our greatest need, we can accept that wonderful gift and serve each other.

While I loved the glitzy elements of our décor, such as the chandelier and the silver teapots, the most meaningful was the ‘guestbook’. I adore the love story in the Disney/Pixar movie Up, and I painted the house, while people used their fingerprints to act as the balloons. It represented nicely the idea that everyone present lifted our relationship up.

Ultimately, my most beloved memory from the day was that I was finally, officially, joined for life with the man who is better than my dreams. From the beginning of our relationship, God’s hand was clearly seen and we both knew we’d found our great love of this life.
