This, my friends, is how you do rustic elegance. A breathtaking setting on the Sunshine Coast (hello Rockwater Resort), a modern meets stunning gown from Johanna Johnson and an all-white color palette that is the epitome of sophistication. Together it’s a combo that completely defines pretty and you can see it all captured by James Looker in the full gallery.
From The Bride… The day was perfect from start to finish. I went with a clean theme of crisp whites with a hint of rustic. Candles were scattered along the tables in mason jars, and the nametags and table numbers were placed in branch rounds that my dad cut at my cabin. The flowers were all white – a mix of roses, hydrangeas, dahlias for the centerpieces and white phlox, white goose neck, white lilies and gladiolas were added (with the above three) for the larger assortments in rustic galvanized buckets that were at the end of the aisle for the ceremony and around the head table for the reception.
We had a white dessert buffet table with macaroons (from Kitchening and Co.), mini coconut cupcakes (from Flour Bakeshop), meringues (from Ganache) and our cake for cutting (Flour Bakeshop), alongside apothecary jars filled with candy. On the same table we also placed black and white photos of our parents and grandparents on their wedding day.
The ceremony took place waterfront at the edge of a cliff. My brother and friend played the acoustic guitar while everyone was finding their seat, and guests sat under a clear roof tent. The groom and wedding party walked down the aisle to “Better Together” by Jack Johnson and I walked down the aisle to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole.
Cocktail hour was brought up around the pool deck, and the reception took place down below, under the same clear roof tent. We had a vintage chandelier hanging from the center of the tent, and string lights were hung around the inner circumference. Hundreds of tealights were lit in mason jars down the middle of each of the tables and the whole tent had a magical glow to it with the sunset colors beaming through. Instead of a photobooth we chose to have disposable cameras on every table.
Dancing was brought back upstairs, inside, and the resort staff told us they had never seen such a fun and crazy dancefloor – we thank our DJ, Emilita! The dancefloor room doors opened up to an upper terrace deck equipped with a bar and lounge furniture so that those who didn’t want to dance could still enjoy the moment with those busting out moves.
The night ended with around 40 of our closest friends skinny-dipping in the phosphorescence and live guitar jams until the early hours of the morning.
I got a lot of my inspiration by looking at photos of weddings from photographers that I love (incl. James Looker, Rebecca Amber and Jamie Lauren) as well as wedding blogs (such as Ruffled and Style Me Pretty) and of course Pinterest and Etsy.
