From the bride… For the décor, we wanted to keep it simple but really reflect the eclectic antique style of the venue. I started visiting all the second hand stores on Vancouver Island to collect mason jars, vintage looking tea light holders and a variety style of vases. We put the mason jars on the brick fireplace mantle with candles inside, and once they were lit, it really become the feature of the large cabin where the reception was held. To fill the vases, keeping it local and affordable, I found two dahlia farmers that were willing to fill my order. Two days before the wedding, we helped cut the dahlias and had a “girls in my family” night to assemble all the arrangements. Other than the sparkling glass, candlelight, bright summer flowers and white linens, we had a gorgeous west coast ambience by being in a wood cabin, with a large brick fireplace and magnificent views of ocean and Quadra Island.

Another project that set the tone for the style of the wedding was the bridesmaids’ outfits. I have a fairly feminine style, but its always hard to figure out what will look best on everyone. One night, with my sister in law and bridesmaid and I were scouring on line for some dress options on Nordstrom’s website, we came across this really adorable high-waisted bubble skirt and thought that would be very different. So over the next seven months, I sewed four light pink satin skirts with polka dot-lined pockets. And since I’m known for being a “matcher,” I made the boys tie’s out of the same fabric with a little hidden polka dot detail.

We recognized that the opportunities we had for our big day were one of a kind. The helicopter mountain top photo shoot in particular got a lot of people excited. My dad does a lot of heli-fishing in the spring and so has a really great relationship with Craig Huston from Grizzly Helicopters in Campbell River. My parents thought that, depending on the weather, it would be a great opportunity to get some unique shots for the Dolphins Resort website; it definitely was. So shortly after the beautiful beach ceremony and a champagne toast, Jordan and I were whisked away in a helicopter with our very talented photographer, Erin Wallis, to a nearby mountaintop. It was such an incredible experience to be in a place so silent, so majestic, so stunning and the photos speak for them selves. We are so grateful.

@casey Paula (bride) made the bridesmaid dresses herself. She explains it a bit in her description here.
