When I was younger, Anne of Green Gables was my ultimate hero. At a very young age, I would have probably up and run away to Prince Edward Island if that meant I could meet her and her beau – the dreamy Gilbert Blythe – and live next to the Lake of Shining Waters. To me, that little island was just full of magic. I feel that little piece of background is needed before I enter a full on gush fest for this bey-ond perfect PEI photo shoot designed by Cheryl of 5 Words Design and shot by Rachel Peters Photography. The sophisticated, yet rugged styling of everything from the cakes by City View Bakehouse to the florals by Hearts and Flowers to the make-up by Michelle Cudmore to all the little details coordinated by Kiss the Bride make for an absolutely giddy blogger. I know someone who will be spending a large part of the day in the full gallery of images – little ol’ me.

From Rachel Peters Photography…Prince Edward Island, or PEI as it’s commonly known, is Canada’s smallest province nestled on Canada’s east coast. PEI has developed a reputation for its natural beauty of rolling hills, red rocks, ocean waves and famous red soil. PEI is home to many rural seaside communities and Charlottetown, the birthplace of Confederation, is the largest urban area. Islanders themselves are what give this natural wonder its character. We embrace our talents, we share what we love and we are proud of who we are. We know our neighbors and we support them. We embrace each other. We stick together.
For our Inspiration Shoot, we were looking for the right mix of elements that would capture what makes our Island so special. We knew we needed the right couple and found just that in Cam and Laura Jane who have chosen PEI as their new home. Both young professionals from British Columbia, Cam and Laura Jane were looking for an adventure. Throughout their relationship they travelled extensively visiting various spots in the world. On a whim, they were decided to travel to PEI. They instantly fell in love with the charm of the Island and the locals that immediately welcomed them with open arms. After that trip, they decided to call PEI home, picking up their belongings and making a life in PEI. Since then, they have not looked back on their new life on picturesque PEI.
Part of what makes PEI a great destination, is that we have immediate access to so much local flavour. We demonstrate on a daily basis the importance of a local food movement. We buy seafood from our fishing wharf, we visit farmers among their crops, and we support our weekly farmers market. And that’s what we did for this shoot. With such great sources available to us, we celebrated with an authentic Island oyster bar, a menu full of Island chowder and lobster, PEI sweet treats and PEI potato chips for late night snacking. It is so easy to access these delicacies, where we know that the flavour is always there and we are not breaking any budgets in doing so.
