From the Bride…Aaron and I met at a Halloween party the day I moved from San Francisco to New York in 2010. We instantly clicked initially as friends, but quickly became inseparable.

From the moment we started planning, we knew we wanted our wedding to reflect our style, but most importantly we wanted our loved ones to have a really fun and memorable night. Since both of us grew up in California, we decided to have our wedding in my hometown, Sacramento. We were going for an Art Deco inspired vibe. We only looked at 3 venues in Sacramento, and we when stepped into the Sacramento Grand Ballroom we knew it was the one. Built as a bank in 1912, it’s one of the most historic buildings in downtown Sacramento, with beautiful architecture and 45-foot gold leaf ceilings.

Aaron and I were planning our wedding from across the country, so we wanted to make sure we had a great team helping us along the way. We were fortunate enough to find incredible vendors that understood our vision and made our day so special and magical. In hindsight, we’re glad we didn’t compromise on our photographer, DJ, and wedding planner.

I spent the morning getting ready with my bridesmaids at The Citizen Hotel. For the bridesmaids dresses, I chose blush and grey as the color palate, with the girls wearing different styles. To pull the look together, I gave each girl a necklace from Baublebar. The groomsmen wore midnight blue tuxedos from The Black Tux and a white flower lapel pin, instead of boutonnieres.

When we walked into the reception, we were blown away by how gorgeous and romantic the venue was. The ballroom was filled with candlelights, gorgeous white flowers and feathers in tall silver candelabras, and accents of gold throughout. Our DJ set the tone perfectly for each part of the reception. Our beautiful and delicious cake was made by my two talented aunts. For our favors, we had cookies from our favorite New York City bakery, Momofuku.

Our perfect day exceeded all our expectations and we could not have imagined a better way to start our lives together.

Traditional Ballroom Wedding

When you’re hosting your wedding in a locale like the Sacramento Grand Ballroom, it’s sort of a given that your day will be amazing.  But throw in a gorgeous bundle of Gatsby-inspired details and an adorable bride and groom with a love of orchids and it’s the kind of amazing that leaves you swooning all weekend.  Soak in every last breathtaking moment captured by U Me Us Studios right here.

From the Bride… We wanted to embrace the 1920′s feel of the ballroom and keep things clean and simple yet elegant and classy. We picked our colors to be navy, cream, black and gold. Very simple yet classic and a little flashy with the gold. We used pretty much as many orchids as possible because we both LOVE orchids and did all the flowers in cream and white to stay with elegant and simplistic. The tables had very tall arrangements as to reach up and highlight the gilded ceiling. We made all of our place cards and kept with the navy, cream, black and a splash of gold. We wanted to make sure the navy was really represented so we had the walls washed in blue light against the cream marble walls and all the tables were draped in cream linens with a shimmery gold overlay. We tried to make sure there was an apparent theme but it wasn’t overdone or being forced in people’s faces. Our wedding was absolutely breathtaking and I wish we could do that every year! Our planner made sure our day went perfectly and went off without a single hitch! She was unbelievable from top to bottom! Everything was seamless! I remember peeking in about an hour before and thinking “oh my gosh, this place is so pretty.” and knowing it was only going to get better! When the ceremony started it was just as breathtaking. Seeing Casey for the first time at the front of the aisle immediately put to rest any doubts I had about NOT doing a first look. Casey really did not want one and I fought him on it. In that moment I was glad he won. From the ceremony to the photos on the patio it was almost like a dream that was moving in slow motion. We can remember so much but all the little details are a blur, in the most amazing way possible. After photos we had our entrance off the main street and just waited to be called in as “Mr. & Mrs. Casey Spaich.” While we waited outside the gigantic vintage revolving doors Casey and I just looked at each other and had a moment to breathe and really just take in the magnitude of it all and it was incredible. When we walked into the reception our minds were BLOWN! It was absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous and beyond ANYTHING we could have imagined! To us it looked like and felt like we had walked straight from 2013 into the 1920′s. To our left were bartenders serving out of glass and gold teller windows, behind us was the classic revolving doors that had just transported us, in front of us was every single person that means the world to us, that has been there for us and were now helping us celebrate, and above us was that gorgeous ceiling that we had initially fallen in love with! It really was like our very own modern day Gatsby party! It was the best wedding, or party we’ve ever been privileged enough to attend, let alone be the celebrated guests!!! Absolutely amazing!

From 2Chic Events & Design… Ahhh, Amy & Jon… a couple who had me at “The ideal Saturday is one in which the time window between drinking coffee and switching to wine is a small one.”  Amy and Jon live on the east coast and I was absolutely thrilled when they hired me to design their Wilson Vineyards wedding. Getting to know them via phone and email was fun, and meeting them in person was such a breath of fresh air. They are sweet, loving, and in total awe of each other. You can literally feel their love when you’re in the room with them. Amy and Jon share a love of music, travel and wine and Amy loves the color purple. After reading their design questionnaires and learning a bit about their taste and personalities, I was immediately drawn to the idea of incorporating music sheets and mixing soft and rich purple hues with the sharpness of black and white. I’m not going to lie, it took some serious persuasion to sell the incorporation of black and white into the design to Amy and Jon. But once they bought in, they really did an amazing job of working with it. Jon’s shoes were a total surprise to me and I LOVE them. Overall, I love the way we were able achieve such a subtle cohesiveness throughout the design without overpowering it with the black and white. A few of my other favorite design elements for this wedding were the paper music hearts that we sprinkled down the aisle in lieu of the traditional petals, the ah-dorable chair backs and table numbers, the escort card display and the amazing dessert bar. Collaborating with my friends at Honey Paperie and Sweet Cakes by Rebecca always seems to be the perfect way to tie the elements together for a finished look. And, as every planner/designer knows, there is NOTHING better than receiving images of your work that capture the details perfectly and truly blow your mind. My breath was taken away by the stunning photography of The Youngrens.
