These lovebirds decided to get married only one month after their first date, and enlisted the help of Orange Blossom Special Events to plan their dream nuptials in only nine months and from the opposite coast! Lucky for them, florals from Peony and Plum and photographs from Michael + Anna Costa Photography proved more gorgeous than they ever imagined, and we’ve got it all in the gallery here.
From the beautiful Bride… On July 4th, 2013 Jordan and I went to see fireworks on the USS Intrepid in New York City. It was our first date. Exactly one month later, we both admitted we knew we were meant for each other and that we’d like to get married. We may have made the quick decision to get married, but it was the best decision for us. We got married March 15th of the following year. I called Brooke Avishay of Orange Blossom Special Events and, after a brief conversation, I knew she was the wedding planner for us. She was friendly, easygoing, and confident that she could help me plan a wedding in two weeks and from across the country. Since both our families live in the West we decided to have our wedding in Los Angeles at the Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades. From New York City, I kept in close contact with Brooke about our vendors and decisions about our design, colors, food, photography, lighting, flowers, and music.
It helped to be a step removed from the planning. I trusted that Brooke knew the right vendors so instead of hunting through hundreds of vendors, she gave me a couple options for each. I looked at their website and I went with my gut. I wanted the colors to be soft and elegant so we chose peach, sage, and pink. And since I come from an Arizona neighborhood of horses, chickens, and goats, I wanted to add the personal touch of wooden table numbers and cake stand. My dad is an arborist and sawed off several pieces of 6” branches to make the table numbers and then he sawed a two inch thick piece of a tree stump for the cake stand. I loved combining the elegant and the rustic.
We wanted our wedding to be nice, but also very fun. For our cocktail hour we had a jazz trio playing, hors d’oeuvres, and popcorn. In the entryway, we had a slow motion camera for guests’ amusement. Also in the entryway, there were four movie posters set up. Each had our faces photo-shopped into character’s faces: Princess Bride, Inception (we made it Reception), Star Wars, and Fast and Furious. These were Jordan’s project. He thought it would be really quirky and bring out our personalities.
The best part of our reception was the dancing. The band that Brooke recommended was out of sight! We both love classic rock, so that’s mostly what they played. It was a blast! After our first dance as Husband and Wife, our guests joined us for some lively dancing before dinner started. It was a great way to start the evening. Jordan’s cousins are all very energetic and my friends who came were mostly all college friends who are mostly actors and dancers. We had a blast, dancing through the reception into the after-party. In the end, being with each other and our friends and family was the most important part of our day.
