Glamorous Napa Valley Wedding from Weddings by Scott and Dana

The sheer detail and glam gorgeousness that you’re about to soak up is beyond. It may be the pretty pastel palette, the peacock themed invites by Bella Figura or quite possibly the layers on layers of blooms from Valley Flora, that steal your heart. The list goes on, but one thing is for sure—Weddings by Scott and Dana have provided the gallery for our viewing pleasure as long as we please!

From the Bride… Austin and I met through his father at a chiropractic philosophy evening. We were asked to pair up holding hands and looking each other in the eyes for 90 seconds as an exercise in feeling what real presence is like. This was the introduction that led us to develop our friendship and then our loving relationship. As chiropractors we have a deep connection through the way we serve people together and the way we trust in the universal intelligence of life itself. We wanted our wedding to reflect this so that everyone who joined us would magnify the energy of love and faith together.

We chose to get married in the gardens of the family home where I grew up, in the Napa Valley. They also live next to a vineyard that was at the peak just prior to harvest that I knew would make an awesome backdrop for some of our photographs. The theme for the wedding was 20’s Glamour. My colors were based on a spectrum of color inspired by a white peacock feather and touches of gold. Both were chosen for their spiritual significance and beauty. I liked that by choosing the theme we could involve fun touches of ostrich feathers, white peacock feathers, and shiny glitzy things to make the day and evening glow. Their was also a touch of regular peacock feathers as an honor to my “sister of honor” who lives part time in India where they have special significance.

I loved the use of the feathers in my bouquet and the feathery and metallic touches in the bride’s maid’s dresses. I found designer Sue Wong for the dresses and helped each girl to find theirs online using sites like bluefly and ebay in order to help them manage cost. I used a pinterest board in order to keep them all tuned in to what was being selected, so that we could coordinate. I even had a designer from etsy make custom white peacock fascinators for all of their hair, which they wore in their own unique ways. I adored seeing it all come together as they were a dazzling display of beauty and love for me to be surrounded by!

For our invitations I was honored to win a Grand Prize from Bella Figura through their “Do Good Bride” contest. It was such a joy to be able to send out these beautiful invitations as well as to include printed menus at the reception. I adored the feel of the cotton paper along with the gorgeous gold letterpress peacocks. I kept the gold peacock touch by having our cake designer paint gold peacock feathers onto the cake.

I found my dress at a boutique in Alameda called Janene’s Bridal that I decided on based on yelp reviews and wanting a place that would be relaxed while still being totally professional. My head piece I discovered at a little shop in Venice Beach and was imported from Donna Crain. I ordered an ostrich feather jacket for the after party on etsy. Each detail was a joyful find!

The year was quite intense leading up to the wedding with me working on a documentary film I am producing as well as with my mom going through cancer treatments. The wedding planning itself, along with our very special wedding planner Yong, became a special way for my mom and I to bond on plans around something meaningful to celebrate. This made it all the more special seeing her that night dressed up in a 20’s inspired dress, surrounded by celebrating, feather adorned friends and family. I think our theme created a fun and fancy environment that encouraged guests to leave their every day world for a night in order to enjoy the magical one we were creating. The atmosphere was healing for everyone!

For table numbers I wanted to involve our engagement photographs since they were perfectly in theme and I felt would add a personal flair to each table. I used a gold paint pen to add on the numbers and placed them in table card holders.

Austin and I created our own ceremony by going on vacation together for a full week. We brought together elements that were meaningful to us and exchanged vows that we wrote together. Having our ceremony run by a friend who we felt was a living representation of love and marriage made it come to life. It was a magical experience. I especially loved when the children were invited to come forward to offer us a blessing of “play and discovery”. Since his family is full of chiropractors (I am the 14th!) we also involved the chiropractors in the audience to stand to give us a “blessing of health and vitality” as well as all of the stunt families from my side to give us a “blessing of adaptation and agility.”

I loved sitting down to our head table and seeing the party through candle light, crystals, gold, and roses while watching people dancing to our amazing 11 piece band. Our first dance “Unforgettable” sums up the sentiment for our life-changing wedding. I am grateful to everyone who came together to make it so special! Photographers, florist, wedding planner, musicians, caterer, tent and furniture rentals, friends, and family!

Modern Solage Calistoga Wedding from Brilliant Event Planning + What Shanni Saw

It’s hard not to love a Napa Valley wedding. This is a proven fact. But it’s impossible not to love a wedding captured by What Shanni Saw and designed by Brilliant Event Planning. Impossible I tell you. Because that’s when you get this perfect mix of stunning Napa and serious style all captured so beautifully you just can’t help but smile, and you can see just what I mean right here.

From the Bride… We chose the Napa Valley for its location; having friends and family flying in from all over Australia and New York, we wanted to pick a halfway point for them, and also to ensure that they could make a vacation from the trip.

We went to Napa with a few locations in mind, Solage Calistoga was the hotel we stayed at, and we fell in love with the property. While it isn’t the traditional vineyard location that everyone expects from a Napa Valley wedding, the elegant casual feel of the Solage won us over, and was ideal for our wedding celebration.

The inspiration for our day was something I worked closely with Sarah to achieve. The key themes I wanted to work with were classic, elegant and very, very minimalistic. I wanted our guests to feel like they weren’t at a stuffy wedding – just at a nice lunch where they can relax and enjoy themselves, dance and have a great time.

As for the special touches that made our day extra lovely? While the beautiful and understated flowers and décor added to the laid-back atmosphere, I have to say that the one thing we and all our guests will never forget was the food – I still dream of the suckling pig we had as appetizer, and Hayden will never forget the coconut wedding cake he helped design.

From Sarah of Brilliant Event Planning One of the first things on Julie’s mind when planning this wedding was location, location, location …and food.  Julie and Hayden are not just Australians, they are New Yorkers as well, so picking a location that was accessible to both their Australian and New York friends was important, which led her to Napa Valley.

To accentuate the relaxed yet cosmopolitan feel of the resort, we decided on an all-white color palette for their elegant, afternoon ceremony and chic lunch.

Julie is a die-hard foodie and knew right away that she wanted only the best foods at her wedding. Upon arrival at the resort, each guest received a custom-made welcome basket by Woods & Co filled with locally-sourced items like salami, chips, tapanade and a bottle of Cakebread Cellars’ cabernet sauvignon, one of Napa’s finest wineries.

And, no wedding reception is complete without champagne and dancing!  Julie and Hayden toasted to a bright and love-filled future with Julie’s favorite champagne, Billecart-Salmon, shipped to Napa especially for their big day, and shared their first dance to the song “Everything” by Michael Buble.

Napa Valley Wedding from Glow Event Design + Gavin Farrington Photography

Napa is in a league all of its own. It’s true. After years of pouring over weddings, there isn’t anything that makes me stop and swoon like a beloved wine country wedding. So when a fête like this one from Glow Event Design and Gavin Farrington Photography lands in my lap, I melt into a pile of wedding-loving mush. And really, there is no other way I’d rather be. See all the Napa goodness here.

From Glow Event DesignJenn and Jamie chose a private estate nestled in wine country for their rustic outdoor wedding. The ceremony was held on the estate lawn overlooking a pond with the vineyard in the background. Afterwards, guests walked along a winding path that led them to a beautifully remodeled barn for cocktails, dinner and dancing. We worked together to create an aesthetic that was country chic and lively, while still staying true to their classic style. Navy was selected as their “classic” color base, then we brought in pops of bright raspberry and striped linens to liven up the interior of the barn. Jamie’s hobby is woodworking and he handmade all of the wooden signage, chalkboards, table numbers, and most impressively, the wooden chuppah for the ceremony. After the wedding he turned the chuppah into a garden swing for the couple’s new home together. For favors, Jenn and her Mom made fresh strawberry jam bottled in mason jars. Instead of a cake, the couple opted for a dessert station featuring cookies, fruit tarts, and creme brulee. The guests danced the night away in the candlelit barn and soft glow of the market lights. Luminaries were placed outside along the pathway for guests to find their way home at the end of the night.
