Knights Ferry Engagement Session from Delbarr Moradi Photography

Okay, it’s official. This is the prettiest engagement session I’ve ever laid eyes on! This adorable couple is so super photogenic and the lighting and setting are out of control beautiful. But I guess that’s just what we’ve come to expect from the oh-so-talented Delbarr Moradi Photography. See the entire session right here in the full gallery!

From the Bride-to-Be… We carefully selected the engagement shoot site as a way to relive a very special memory of what was then a budding romance and courtship. During the first year of our relationship, we dated long-distance, and for one of our monthly special visits we ventured into a magical place called Knights Ferry. It is one of the most picturesque places we’ve ever been to; the landscape was drenched in sunlight, wildflowers, trees, grassy hills, streams of water and fresh air. We had an amazing time picnicking, discovering a special spot by the river, walking through the covered drawbridge, and … sharing our first kiss! That day was absolutely ideal, and we were a bit nervous to go back because we didn’t want to distort such a picture-perfect memory. But we couldn’t think of a better place to have our engagement shoot, so just had to go back! Once we stepped foot into the grassy fields, we were immediately welcomed by the spring air and fluttering leaves — we felt like we had never left our romantic picnic from three years past.

We chose a theme of hearts because we love what the shape represents, and we like drawing them on love notes to one another. We kept the props minimal in order to highlight the focus of the photo shoot: love! Our photographer, Delbarr Moradi, did such a great job of balancing the beauty of the landscape while still focusing on us. We aren’t sure when we’ll go back to Knights Ferry, but I’m sure the third time around will be even more magical and memorable than ever.

Turlock Wedding at Pageo Lavender Farm by Closer to Love Photography

I really can’t think of a more romantic place to get married than on a lavender farm. That’s a venue that has romance written ALL over it. The aroma alone would send me straight to my happy place, and that’s even before setting my sights on the gorgeous scenery or the oh-so in love new Mr. & Mrs and all their carefully curated details. When you put all of that in the mix, happy place wouldn’t even begin to describe what it would be like to be a guest at this gorgeous wedding. And although we weren’t all guests, Closer to Love Photography made sure to capture this day in such a way you can almost smell the sweet lavender when poring over all the lovely! See it all here!

From the Bride… When we began planning our wedding, we knew we wanted an outdoor venue for both the ceremony and reception. We live in a farm town that has many nice outdoor wedding venues and many kind families who rent out their homes and properties for such occasions. Pageo Lavender farm is, in our opinion, the most beautiful venue in our area, so it was a no-brainer picking this spot for our wedding in April! Travis always encourages and supports the artist in me, so he pretty much let me take over and do whatever I wanted. He knew that I would come up with something unique to us both. With such a beautiful venue, we knew we wanted everything pretty simple. There was no need to take away from the already gorgeous scenery all around us! The basic theme of our wedding was rustic, vintage and romantic. With the help of my mom and a couple of girlfriends, we handmade all the decor for the wedding. I wanted lots of contrasting textures, which is why I went with a burlap and lace theme decor. My friend Marisa and I spent countless hours decorating a couple hundred mason jars with burlap, twine, and vintage lace that my mom had been collecting from her aunts and grandmas over the years. We used the mason jars as vases for the floral arrangements, which were done by my cousin Natalie at Oak Park Group Floral Designs. We knew we wanted peonies and ranunculus but pretty much let her do her thing, and I cannot even explain how completely in LOVE with the flowers I was. I was blown away by how gorgeous they were and what an amazing job she did on all of the bouquets and boutonnieres. She has got some serious talent! Over the ceremony/dance floor, we had paper flowers that I made using a Martha Stewart tutorial that you can find on her website — they are cute and simple to make using ordinary lunch bags! I am obsessed with burlap, so we decided to have white linens with burlap overlays. All of the bunting for the bar and guestbook table I made myself with burlap and twine and then stenciled with white acrylic paint.

Backyard Wedding by Gia Canali, II

I happen to be a HUGE fan of backyard weddings – they have such an intimate nature to them that always gives me those warm fuzzies!  (Granted, you and your family will be left with hundreds of tiny stiletto punctures in your lawn, but what a small price to pay, wouldn’t you agree?) And although I’ve never met this featured couple, photographed by Gia Canali, I believe I’d adore them; those inflatable swans, alone, likely speak volumes of the kind of people they are!  They carry with them an important lesson about wedding planning, too; don’t be afraid to make your wedding an extension of who you are.

I’ll let Gia Canali take it away with the oh so delightful details…

We loved the unique design touches — the chandelier in the tree in the front yard, the antique car, and the inflatable swans that floated in the pool.  The design was really simple and elegant, but didn’t take itself too seriously (I mean: how can you take yourself too seriously when you’re willing to float giant inflatable swans in the pool at your elegant backyard wedding?).

This wedding had great lighting — they planned the events of the day around natural lighting, but also lit the dining and dancing areas with clusters of paper lanterns and string lights.  Paper lanterns are actually a really good source of bright, even light (that doesn’t kill the mood!).

The very subtle color palette was especially lovely. Not every wedding needs to scream “these are my wedding colors!!!” — Though Nada’s wedding design has lots of whites, neutrals, and little bits of gold in it, there were touches of green and pink echoed in the florals and in the attendants’ attire.  The little bit of pink in Nada’s bouquet is reflected in her sister’s gown; the greens in the florals, moss, and other decor were reflected also in Paul’s friends’ ties.

Thanks, Gia, for bringing this amazing wedding to our eyes! xoxo, Alison of The Knotty Bride
