From the Bride… It is incredibly rewarding when you put a lot of work into planning something, and it actually turns out the way you had imagined. Fortunately, our wedding was one of those things. Jeremy and I met at work, and were engaged three years later on our anniversary. It was a blessing in disguise that we got engaged in November 2013, as most venues for 2014 had been booked. It gave me plenty of time to plan.

It was difficult at first to decide what type of wedding we wanted, at least until we had found the venue. I think somewhere deep down I knew that I wanted it to be very romantic, whimsical, and classic. About five years before the wedding, my mom told me she had been to an event at this beautiful venue in Los Gatos. She said it would be perfect for a wedding. This of course was before I had even met Jeremy. As fate would have it, we visited the venue and fell madly in love with it. Once we saw Nestldown, it was obvious we weren’t going to think twice about it. It was truly the most beautiful and magical place either of us had seen. From the modern yet rustic barn, to the perfectly landscaped gardens, to the towering redwood trees throughout the property; Nestldown truly set the stage for our fairytale wedding.

Besides marrying the man of my dreams, I would have to say my dress was one of my most favorite parts of the day, which is hard to believe considering I am not a big wedding dress person. But when you are gifted the most stunningly beautiful Oscar de la Renta dress from your amazing aunt, what else is one to do but fall madly in love with it. It was hard to think that somewhere out there there would be a dress that would be mine; that would be made for my personality, and that would be classic, delicate, and elegant. And then I found it. Accompanied by my mom, sister, and aunt, I put on a beautiful Oscar dress covered in silk applique leaves. I knew this was the one. It is not everyday a girl gets to wear one of her all-time favorite designers, especially on her wedding day. Nordstrom special-ordered the dress for me and was an absolute dream to work with. I was lucky enough to wear my great grandmother’s aquamarine earrings. Something old, borrowed and blue. Between that and my new dress, I was covered.

When it came to the look of the wedding, I wanted it to be different. I didn’t want it to feel bohemian just because we were in the woods. I wanted to keep the classic elegance of traditional weddings, but with a twist. A formal wedding in an informal setting. Our colors were mostly white, with touches of blush and green. Nestldown is so stunning that we didn’t need to do much to dress it up. Our florist, Laurie from Seascape Flowers, exceeded all my expectations and dreams, with soft flowers like ranunculus, hydrangeas, and peonies. In particular, I had visions of a very soft, light-pink peony, but knew they were hard to find in this color. The day of the wedding, to my complete surprise, there they were in all of their glory. She had made everything exactly how I had imagined it. As an added touch, the escort cards floated on beds of hydrangeas, under a willow tree by the pond.

Our wedding day was a perfect 73 degrees and sunny with some clouds, which I was thankful for as the day before it was well into the 90s. Our ceremony took place down in the redwood chapel, where my Aunt Brooke officiated the marriage. Vowing to spend the rest of your life with someone while beneath the redwood trees is really a special moment that is hard to put into words. However, what truly made it special was having someone that we cared so deeply about marry us. It is a bond that we will share with her forever. After the ceremony, we enjoyed cocktail hour in the meadow. Guests played bocce ball and enjoyed music and appetizers. Dinner was served on the front lawn by the Koi pond. Our caterer, Thomas John Events, prepared a beautiful meal that all our guests still rave about to this day. To finish off the evening, everyone headed into the barn for dancing and dessert. I absolutely loved the assortment of desserts from Sweet Lauren Cakes. The table was covered with pie pops, cake pops and mini cupcakes; it was a hit with all our guests, as they could enjoy a variety of sweets throughout the evening. Paul from Big Fun DJ packed the dance floor, and guests had a blast making memories in the photo booth. Every detail helped shape our wedding – a day that I will truly never forget.

As a bride-to-be, you are already on the right track by visiting the Style Me Pretty website. It was an absolute savior for me throughout the planning process and provided me with so many wonderful ideas. However, if I had any additional advice for brides planning their wedding, it would be this: decide what is most important to you and focus on it. For me, having a perfect venue was extremely important, as was an awesome photographer. I probably spent most of my time looking for our photographer, Erin and Courtney; they were incredibly fun to work with and their photographs speak for themselves. The other advice I would give is to focus on one task at a time; finish that task before moving on to the next. Be sure to keep moving forward, and if you can, try to use any spare time to your advantage. I was finished with coordinating our vendors about eight months before the wedding. It gave me a lot of time to work on the details, and most importantly it kept me calm knowing things were done. The day before the wedding, let it all go. At that point, whatever is going to happen will happen, so let it. It is meant to be.

Your wedding day really is the most magical moment of your life. Cherish it, take in as much as possible, and pay attention to the details; the little things make the BEST memories. You will remember your day forever, and always with a smile.

From Going LovelyWhen Michelle & Rich first reached out and filled me in on their wedding vision and A-team of vendors they had lined up, I knew their wedding was going to be stunning! They had already booked Nestldown , a beautiful and fairytale-like venue tucked away in the Santa Cruz Mountains and wanted my help executing their vision.

Coco Tran was there to capture the big day and all the beautiful details! The theme was romantic and ethereal with bohemian accents, and Park Floral Design’s lush, organic arrangements helped carry that theme throughout the decor.

Dinner took place in the venue’s garden surrounded by a pond and redwood trees. To keep with the romantic and ethereal theme, eucalyptus garlands with loose flowers ran down the long farm tables and were styled with a mix of glass and brass candle holders. Hand painted river rocks served as table numbers and the place settings featured vintage china, glassware, and flatware from Frances Lane.

The fun continued throughout the night in the venue’s charming barn with a delicious dessert bar and a surprise performance by a Michael Jackson impersonator! It was an amazing evening filled with lots of love and laughter. Congrats Michelle & Rich on your beautiful wedding!

Rustic Elegant Santa Cruz Wedding

By combining their backgrounds (she Italian, he Mexican) and adding in their love for all things tasty, these two created a celebration that not only represented them perfectly but was one amazingly, delicious bash at the same time. Melissa Fuller captured the day, from the beautiful bridesmaids’ decked out in Weddington Way, Rent the Runway and more, to the Bride’s bouquet with the perfect pops of red thanks to Huckleberry Karen Designs. See this (and more!) in our VAULT this way!

From the Bride… Ryan and I wanted our wedding to closely reflect the things that matter most to us in life – family and friends, food and lots of fun. I come from a big Italian family and Ryan comes from a large Mexican family. For us, having 40 people at Christmas dinner is the norm, so we wanted our wedding to feel like that. One big celebratory dinner to honor our families and closest friends coming together. So we had five long farm tables placed out on the gorgeous lawn amidst the Redwood trees in the Santa Cruz forest. Tables were adorned with olive branches and figs from my grandma’s garden. Gold chargers, gold-rimmed champagne flutes and gold flatware made for our perfect Tuscan dinner party, and don’t forget freshly baked bread and sea-salted butter!

Food was also a major source of inspiration for us. We cook together a lot at home, we even stated in our vows that day (without knowledge of one another’s vows) to always be the other person’s head chef and sous chef. Our caterer worked with us closely to create the perfect menu with lots of Italian/Californian farm-to-table flavors and details. We had an olive oil tasting bar with olives imported from Spain and it featured olive oils that Ryan and I had collected at local farmer’s markets and in wine country throughout the year. To keep with the dinner/food theme… even our invitations were printed on dish towels. I worked closely with our designer (Kim at Bright Room Studios) to create a map of the Bay Area that included all of the most important places to Ryan and me throughout our time as a couple. We printed our invitations on dish towels to remind people of how we like to cook and spending time in the kitchen together, hoping that one day the towel would be reused by our guests.

Fun radiated throughout the entire wedding day and the team at Nestldown, My-Dung in particular, helped us bring our vision to life that day! Some of the “fun things we did” – choreographed our first dance, we had four matching ring-bearers and one flower-girl carrying an oversized balloon, the bridesmaid’s sequin dresses, a Dr. Seuss reading, dragons, dwarf-cottages and a king’s throne, a custom Nor-Cal vs So-Cal corn hole set, bocce ball, custom beer koozies, a life-size train for people to ride around the grounds, the bride and groom being “Iced” by the best man, a vintage Volkswagen bus for a photo booth and glow sticks on the dance floor!

We spent most of our 14 months of planning brainstorming ways to make our guests feel like they were at the center of the celebration right along there with us. This is why we hired Melissa, our awesome photographer. We loved her photojournalistic style and knew she would help us capture all the special moments of our family and friends we might have missed so that we could re-live this special day for years to come. She did a fantastic job capturing all the details from our special day and our fun, loving group of family and friends – pictures really are worth a thousand words in this case! :)

Other standouts include: every detail was thought through to try to make the whole experience really reflect Ryan, me and the things we love in life. The table numbers reflected the different locations on our invite map, I hand-painted each and every sign, the drinks were called “La Sposa” (the wife in Italian) and “El Novio” (husband in Spanish), and we even poured wine from the small winery we belong to and spend many weekends at in Sonoma.
