This wedding right here? It’s my everything. It’s romantic meets gorgeous, rustic meets elegant and infused with so many beautiful cultural touches, it makes my heart pitter patter all over the place. In other words, it’s the epitome of perfection, all set against a breathtaking LA River Center and Gardens backdrop with amazing images by Rad + In Love. See them all here.
From the Bride… Nima and I met while we were students at UC Berkeley and we were together for ten years before we got married. We wanted a truly personal wedding to celebrate our marriage and the special group of family and friends who were traveling from around the country to be with us on that day.
We chose the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens as the venue and we based the style of the day on the California mission style architecture and the beautiful courtyards and gardens on-site.
We’re both Iranian-American and it was really important for us to find ways to incorporate some of our favorite traditions into the wedding. Also, half of my family is Muslim and the other half is Jewish, so we wanted to include aspects of each faith.
On the day of our wedding, everything came together so well.
For the ceremony, we decided to mix Persian, American, Muslim and Jewish traditions. Shahrzad Ardalan conducted a traditional Persian ceremony. Our long-time friend and pastor Cory Willson conducted the American ceremony, and we each chose a Jewish and Muslim blessing. It was incredibly special. Shahrzad and Cory managed to create a seamless ceremony and it meant a great deal to all of us.
For the reception, we really wanted everyone to have a great time. David Masrour’s Persian food was amazing, people went back for seconds and thirds. DJ Omead from Dashing Events created a phenomenal mix of Persian and American music. We couldn’t be happier with the photographs from Rad + In Love. And our day-of coordinator, Zenia McJimpson, did an amazing job of coordinating with our vendors and the friends and family who were helping out.
After dinner, my mother surprised all of us by introducing Rahim Shahriari, a famous singer and musician from West Azerbaijan, in Iran. He started singing and everyone — from our elderly grandparents to our college friends — got onto the dance floor.
Everything was perfect, we only wish the day could have lasted much longer.
