This wedding is a vision. A vision of loveliness, yes, but also a vision this lovely Bride dreamt up and made reality. Allowing us to soak in every last beautiful detail through the gorgeous images from Summer & Boyd. It’s the result of hours and hours spent working on decorations along with family and friends, and you can see the labor of love most definitely paid off with just one look at this gorgeous gallery.
From the Bride…Our goal for the wedding was to make it fun, elegant and casual all at the same time. I have always loved to be creative and make things on my own. While on my journey of searching for a venue, I found that many places were very strict about decorations and limiting with the use of their linens, tables and decorations. I had an idea in my head of the look I wanted and none of the venues I went to were the right place for me to create what I had envisioned. Then, one afternoon, my fiance and I went for a walk in the open space (Sugarloaf Open Space) behind my parent’s house in Walnut Creek, just as we had done many times over the past ten years. As soon as we started walking through the walnut orchard, I realized this was the perfect venue for us and that I could be creative as I wanted to – I could turn this beautiful outdoor space into my dream wedding!
I also knew it might be risky, since a wedding had never been done in this area before. But once I got permission from the ranger who lives on the land, my imagination went wild. I wanted it to be a casual outdoor wedding that was elegant, romantic and comfortable. I started with the ceremony and got to work making the decorations. I wanted flowers hanging from the large oak tree we would be married under. So my mom and I (and many friends) got right to work making 1300 fabric flowers. They were gorgeous and exactly what I imagined. We hung them on clear fishing string. It was the perfect touch of white and elegance for the backdrop.
Our wedding was a refection of everyone around us, as many people helped me create the wedding of my dreams. My mother made homemade berry jam for the favors. My best friend and bridesmaid helped make my invitations, design chalkboard signs, and decorative labels. And a family friend made cobbler instead of cake for every guest. On the day of the wedding it was amazing to see everything come together. I felt the wedding had the perfect amount of elegance and rustic charm. I used a mixture of picnic tables that were already in the open space and large tables. We covered the picnic tables in lace I bought and the benches with seat covers my mother made. My husband and I really planned this wedding on a budget and we think it added more character to our wedding by changing things to help save money. We had pre-plated appetizers on every table to cut costs on food and chose to use small bud vases on every table instead of large centerpieces. We hired a delicious food truck that made organic fire-roasted pizzas. We also had a popcorn station and s’mores bar for the guests to eat all night.
My husband and I feel like this wedding really was the wedding of our dreams. It was a place for our family and friends to come eat, dance and enjoy themselves outside in a walnut orchard that was meaningful to us. I loved every project I did for the wedding and my husband and I will always look back on this day as a truly magical and special memory.
