From the Bride… I had been dreaming about my wedding since I made my entrance as a flower girl at age 5! When Patrick popped the question after 3 years of dating I was so thrilled to put the planning wheels in motion and buy out the shelves of bridal magazines! I had been swooning over the gorgeous weddings on Style Me Pretty and loved so many different styles, color palettes and general themes it became very difficult to choose one for our wedding; eventually I decided on my original favorite from age 5, which was fairytale! I wanted the day to feel romantic, elegant and whimsical with rustic and vintage touches to accent the historic cottage we said our “I Do’s” in front of. With such an exquisite theme like “Fairytale” and a more modest budget (15,000) I knew I needed to get crafty! Almost every aspect of our wedding was either completely DIY or had some sort of DIY touches to add the extra touches of love; from the wedding invitations to the water bottles handed out before the ceremony.
Many of our creative DIY projects were inspired by blogs featuring DIY weddings and other ways to personalize your wedding. One of the lengthiest of DIY projects was the table centerpieces. No two tables were alike; for months we scoured thrift stores, antique stores and even family members houses for beautiful rustic and vintage vases, books, doilies and candle holders. The majority of the flowers adorning the tables, lounge area and reception site were straight from my mother’s backyard! One DIY project I am especially proud of is the lounge area I put together. Because we were married in such a small town and had a modest budget to work with we were limited in vendor choices and did not have the option of renting furniture; although the sensible solution would be to not have a lounge area, my then fiancé and family would tell you I was obsessed with bringing the indoors outside and creating this fairytale ambiance; so we rented a U-Haul and packed up any and all vintage/antique furniture mine and my mothers houses harbored; from our old kitchen table to the gorgeous antique loveseat.
Another project I loved doing was decorating candles for each table and cocktail area. I bought Virgin Mary candles from the dollar store and covered them in pages from an old book called “Heart Throbs” I found at a local thrift store then adorned the candles with ribbons and doilies, lets just say me and the hot glue gun are best friends! These projects were very time consuming but very rewarding and worth every second; they allowed my mother and I to bond and realize our passion for weddings and crafting and added so many personal touches that helped make our day so special. Now that the wedding is over and I am left with quite the collection of wonderful rustic and vintage pieces I am planning on renting them out to brides with similar themes!

Kayla & Pat's wedding was one of our favorites of the whole year! We are in love with the beautifully handcrafted details- and with the bride and groom. :) Can't wait to shoot at Empire Mine again next year! Thanks SMP California for featuring this special day!
AHHH so many DIY details! LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. the vintage touches-funrinture, candles, and lace drapes and runners. Kayla you look absolutely stunning... Congrats to you and Pat! Erica- you have amazed me once again, beautiful photos!
Woah, Kate Moss wedding twinsies! <3
I love Erica's photography. And this wedding was gorgeous!
Gorgeous wedding! I absolutely love the flowers! I have to ask who makes those bridesmaid dresses!? I like how the tops are different on everyone. Thanks!
Hi Erin! Thank you! The dresses are by Bari Jay.
What a beautiful wedding!! I can only hope our wedding at Empire Mine next year is just as beautiful! Love the vintage look! Nice job :)
Thank you so much for posting our wedding! It's so cool seeing it up and reading everyone's comments
OOh, I think this is one of my favourite weddings I've seen! The brides dress is BEAUTIFUL! Gorgeous wedding. ^_^
So pretty! What color are those bridesmaid dresses? You all looked beautiful!
I Have absolutely fell in LOVE with the brides dress. I have been looking for one like this for AGES! I know the designer its by Demetrios, but I dont suppose anyone knows the style number or where in the UK I could get it from?
Thanks
Jen xxx
Thanks Kammy! The color of the bridesmaid dresses are "Beige" according to the Bari Jay website :)
And thank you Jennie! the style number is B162, don't know about where you could get it from in the UK though.
Hope that helps!
xoxo
Thank you so much. Now Ive got a style number I may get a bit more luck x
Jennie, the dress was altered to a sweetheart neckline - made a huge difference.
Mom!!
Ohh thank you, I though that I noticed it was straight on other pictures I had seen. Sweetheart deffs would make a massive difference. Thanks xxx
that lamb's ear in her bouquet is so dreamy!
One of the most BEAUTIFUL weddings I have ever seen! Kayla, you look absolutely ravishing. Every detail was so perfect. Erica of Acres of Hope photography did an incredible job of capturing every moment. Each picture reveals how STUNNING this bride really is, inside and out. So creative and sweet! Kayla you did an amazing job of making it all come together! Every time I look through the photos I swoon once more. XO
omg you make the most beautiful bride I have ever seen! I am in the midst of planning my wedding and have been stalking real weddings on this website and I think you are the first that actually made me tear up! (and definitely the first I've commented on!) Your dress was absolutely beautiful and you looked like a princess! congratulations!!!!
Awwww, thank you so much Megan! You are so sweet! I am so glad you left this comment it made ME tear up! Congrats on your engagement and happy wedding planning to you! xoxo
Stunning bride! Great photography! You did a fabulous job of putting all of the themes together. Do you mind me asking who your dress is by and the style?
Thanks Maggie! My dress is by Demetrious, style B162 and I had it altered to a sweetheart neckline :)
I dont suppose you could email me a close up picture of the dress which I could zoom in on etc, as I still love the dress and want to order it, HOWEVER because it is from 2009 nowhere in the UK has the dress still in as a sample to try on, so I will have to simply oder it without seeing it in person or trying it on. I also dont seem to be able to get any clearer pictures online. So sorry to be a pain... I just cant seem to see properly the left side of the dress ( left side in the pictures) so I cant tell what the fabric is doing there really, as it seems to be something other than ruffles.
Any help at all out be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Jen

I am seriously OBSESSED with these photos and ideas!!! I think it is seriously SOO beautiful, the whole thing! I am truly inspired and plan to take many of these ideas and incorporate them into my own upcoming wedding! :) THANK YOU!!
I really love this wedding:X
Amazing Wedding! I fell in love with your bridesmaid dresses!! Can you let me know which styles your girls chose? Do you remember the style numbers?? It would be really helpful as they all go together so nice!
Thank you Michellelynn! I love them too and so did my girls they were quite the find, I even wanted to get one for myself haha!! The dresses are by Bari Jay all in color beige, style numbers from the website are, 225 ( had middle of dress sewn together so satin did not show through), 227, and 911 (long). I hope that helps! Happy planning :)
beautiful! Loving the gypsofela (sic?) flowers. Also loving the lace drape- where is this from?
Who did your hair??
I'm having my wedding in Grass Valley next year and I'm having the hardest time finding a hair person.
LOVE the birdesmaid dresses! What color are they?
Sorry I just read your above responses that it's "beige". Would you say they had almost a pink tone? They look like a dusty pick almost in the photos.
Hi Gini! I had one of my bridesmaids do my hair and she lives in San Diego or else I would recommend her! I was in the same boat as you - not a whole lot of hair people to work with In Grass Valley!
Hi Kelly, Thank you! Yes, I would say they have a bit of a pink tone in some lighting and photo and I am happy that you say that because originally I wanted a kind of blush/champagne color but when I saw the pink color in this dress in person that I thought I wanted it was like a bubble gum pink, so I decided on the beige.
Hi Kayla!
I am getting married at Empire Mine this summer! We are on a very strict budget...Of course I fell in love with your wedding photos just like everyone else! I read that you were on a budget as well. Is there any way you can tell me what caterer you used and which hotel you chose to have your guests stay at? Any tips to keep things at a low cost would be great! Thanks so much!
-Mehgan
Kayla,
I am getting Married in May and I have been looking all over for lace table runners! Where did you find these ? I love them :) Thanks so much ! Beautiful Wedding.. Love it !
-Natalie
Hi Mehgan! Thank you! We used Bills Chuckwagon for catering - it was very tasty BBQ with salads and sides and it was a great deal but it was very casual as far as wedding food goes! We got married on the same weekend as the annual bike race that is like the most popular weekend in Grass Valley and we didn't realize our wedding shared the same weekend until we tried to reserve hotels and they were all booked! But! We did book this awesome resort for the bridal party and family. It was called the Rollins Lakeside Inn and we rented out the entire resort sleeping around 50 I think? It was really fun it's a bunch of cabins with their own kitchens, bathrooms etc. and one main house that had like 4 bedrooms. It was a ton of fun it's right on the lake and the owners were so laid back and always took us out on their boat! But, it also was pretty casual and rustic so not it would be good to have other options as well. The Northern Queen is nice and the Holbrook!
here is the Rollins Lakeside Inn website: http://www.rollinslake.net/
Bills Chuckwagon: http://www.billschuckwagon.com/
Hope this helps!
Happy wedding planning!
XOXO
Hi Natalie!
Thank you!! We made the table runners, we bought the lace at a fabric warehouse in Reno, NV and cut them to fit the tables! I am also renting or selling them if you are interested in that my email is k.c.hull@hotmail.com. Happy Planning!
XOXO
I have so many great memories of being involved with this wedding as their chosen florist. Kayla and Shirlee were so much fun to work with. They truly inspired ME!! Watchin all their family and friends having so much fun helping to set up with all the details really showed positive LOVE. The Empire Mine in Grass Valley is a gorgeous site and having the wedding there on such a beautiful day was such a blessing for me. All the bouquets and boutonnieres were like accent jewels that I really enjoyed designing. Thank you for bringing these great images back!
The flower photos were awesome!
So beautiful! Love all the creative details and styling!
@Gini If you still need someone for hair, I highly recommend polishandpout.com (makeup and hair services) or ashleybryditzki.com. I've used them for multiple shoots, and they both do a fabulous job!
I look at wedding sites and photographers sites daily, and it has been nearly a year, and still have not seen a wedding that comes close to the beauty and romantic feeling of this event. You can see the feel the love in every photo. Great Job to all involved.
Thank you Shirlee :)
