Villa del Sol d’Oro Wedding by Kim Le Photography

Oh to be a guest of this exquisite event at the Villa del Sol d’Oro, Santa Anita Gardens captured by Kim Le Photography! The alfresco affair combined the ballroom feel we all love to an outdoor reception, bringing the perfect feeling of fancy to all the festivities. And who doesn’t like to feel a little fancy now and again? I know this little lady does, and after spending some time in the pretty, pretty gallery of images I bet you’ll be feeling fancy too.

From the Bride…There was no question that we wanted to have our Big Day in the Los Angeles area, where we met and where we currently both live and work. At first, we only considered holding our reception at a country club or hotel ballroom, but one visit to the Villa del Sol d’Oro we were in L-O-V-E! I had never imagined having our reception outdoors (I’m more of an “indoors” kind of gal), but it was the perfect setting for the “classic, romantic and girly” feel we (well mostly, I) was going for. I must have changed our color scheme about five times since the wedding planning began. I was a bit of an indecisive bride because at one point or another I seemed to love everything, but pink was always incorporated in each decision. Our final choice–slate grey with touches of pink and ivory (and somehow lavender too).

Although our reception venue has an absolutely breathtaking ceremony area, we chose a more traditional route since the both of us were raised in the Catholic Church and incorporated the Filipino customs of the candle, cord, veil and coins into our ceremony. I come from a fairly large family with lots and lots of kids so it was very important to us that our wedding not only be fun for us adults, but just as exciting for the many kids that make our lives that much happier. We decided to have a room especially for the kids to share in the festivities, filling it with balloons, candies and other fun treats! My favorite part of the reception was the cake room (yes, it was actually a room with only the cake in it!). My amazing cousin (who’s a Pediatric Chemo Nurse by day and Pastry Chef by night) made us the cake as our wedding present. Since the room was beautiful “as is,” we decided to keep the decoration accents minimal but did display photos of our parents on their wedding day on either side of the cake table.

The surprise for all our guests was a bacon wrapped hot dog truck that made an appearance at the end of the night. Ryan and I had always been fans of the infamous snacks and were convinced they were a have-to-have when shopping for miscellaneous weddings items (i.e. ribbon, fabric, glass containers) in downtown LA. We had planned quite a few DIY projects, but in the end we decided to do a handful of things like the programs, place cards/ candles, table numbers, menus, fabric flags (for kids’ room) and a few special table cloths. All which of which would not have come to fruition if it wasn’t for the help from our amazing families. We are so lucky to have had the most talented (and sweetest!) vendors who helped make our day even better than we could have even imagined!
