In wedding-blogger-land, there is nothing better…I repeat, nothing better…than a bride who doesn’t take herself too seriously. A bride that isn’t afraid to throw a little Carrie Bradshaw into them mix and design a wedding with totally unexpected style. Such is the case for this next little number. The bride is one part fun, one part fabulous and the day that she and her hubby crafted…well, it’s total SMP bliss. Photographed by Meg Smith, this wedding shows you what happens when you infuse your party with a little bit of spunk. Click here to see even more.

Julie never imagined she would be getting married, let alone dreaming about a wedding – that’s too girly for her. She didn’t believe that any successful and self-content women would ever need a man to complete her life. A self-proclaimed feminist, Julie advocated for women’s rights and vowed to fight against any injustice that’s brought upon women. She hated labels, because she refused to belong to anyone or anything, and no one could ever define her identity except for herself. She lived by the motto of “Well-behaved women rarely made history”, and she was independent, out-spoken, and feisty. Well, things somehow changed after she met Kelvin.
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Kelvin was changing jobs and Julie was finishing up her degree. They just got some extra time to spend with each other. The DC/NYC trips happened almost every weekend and they spent every possible second with each other. Just when everything went very well, fate had its way of testing people. Julie’s departure was almost unexpected. And this time, she moved away to Taiwan. Without knowing what would lie in the future, Kelvin just wouldn’t let her say goodbye like that. So, they started a seemingly impossible long distance relationship. The distance was not an issue at all, it turned out. Being apart from each other, the relationship only grew stronger each day. They would talk and talk more, and realize, they needed to make a plan. Long distance relationship wasn’t all that hard when there was a goal, a plan. So they did.
Kelvin presented a proposal so promising that Julie was totally willing to give up her career entirely in Taiwan. He wanted to start a family with her. After 2.5 years of a long distance relationship, they graduated with honor and were ready to move on to the next stage of their lives, together.
Julie and Kelvin’s ceremony was sweet and simple. The most important element of their ceremony was the support and love from their family and friends. Since their wedding theme was Rustic Chic, they wanted everyone to enjoy an evening full of delicious food from local farms and Sonoma Valley wines. The reception was indoors in a charming barn, looking out to the vineyards under the star-lit sky.

Love, love, love the headpiece with the Jim Hjelm gown gown!! Fantastic!!
Simply lovely. :)
I think the headpiece is really cute too. My question is, how did it stay put?!?!
Big congrats to Meg and Julie! Stunning wedding, love the linen combination, flowers, and the soft light of the day, layout. Perfect.
Amazing as always Meg! (And what fun to photograph at Atwood!!)
Absolutely gorgeous wedding!! Congratulations! I am curious if you have a style number or name for the BM dresses? Exactly what I am looking for a Modcloth is a bit hard to search through...thanks!
so pretty! The lighting is so great in all the pictures.. So soft and romantic.. My fiancé and I have been doing long distance for 4 years btw London, Los Angeles, NY and Arizona and with several visas in between! We'll be getting married April 30th and we can't wait to start our life together! It's so great to see another long distance couple finally reach their happy day :-)
Love those bridesmaid dresses and the bride looks stunning. How cute is the once upon a time book! So gorgeously styled.
stunning photography!
Beautiful pictures! It looks like an amazing wedding - and so fun, too!
we love a good barn wedding! beautiful colors and light.
Hi, thanks for the great comments -- I'll try to get answers to some of the detailed questions.
Sara, I get what you are saying, but I think it just came across wrong...I can guarantee Julie was/is a feisty and out-spoken bride and married woman! I actually was really engrossed in what she was saying at the ceremony, it was very personal and real about her feelings of being independent yet being in a partnership. Of course we can be feminists and be married - and if we are mother's (or will become!) let's concentrate on raising the next generation of feminists too -- girls AND boys!
I do want to thank Julie and Kelvin for letting me share the photos, Julie Atwood for sharing her gorgeous (I'm turning green with envy!) home, and to the SMP team who always do a lovely layout and make my photos look REALLY good! (-:
Great images, looks like the the wedding had a great atmosphere which really comes through in the photographs.
That was a lovely wedding with a fantastic team! Thanks for sharing!
I love your comment, Meg.

To Hannah- The headpiece had a hair clip attached on the flower fascinator. The hair clip was the kind with teeth so it held well. It stayed on the whole night until I took it off to change into another dress.
To dani21- I don't have the style number but the dress is called the "First Dance Dress". I found them last May before the wedding (wedding was in September) and bought 5 of them - saved one for myself too. I don't see them on ModCloth anymore unfortunately. However the whole-sale company is called Rubber Ducky Production which is based in LA if you'd like to look up.
I read stylemepretty religiously for planning my wedding and always loved all the weddings on it. Can't believe mine is also a Style Me Pretty wedding. I loved and enjoyed every minute of that day....

Love it!
It was a lot of fun working with Julie on her "In the Mood for Love" inspired dress.
The wedding looks magical!
