When a bride and groom are this awesome, you sort of know their wedding is going to be amazing.  The kind of amazing where vibrant colors mix and mingle with floral bridesmaids gowns, beautiful blooms from Emily Bourne and oversized (+ crazy cool) balloons.  Because this, my friends, is a duo that knows a thing or two about saying “I do”… and you can see every love-filled (+ seriously pretty) moment captured by Oli Sansom right here.

Whimsical

The inspiration behind Rachael & Amon’s wedding came from their combined personality traits. The whole day mirrored the type of people that they are. Rach being a whimsical creative type and Amon being a sophisticated traditionalist type, they wanted a wedding that felt both formal and informal at the same time. Rachael’s background in graphic design came in handy as she designed the silkscreened poster-style invitation, reception decor and overall styling of the day. She used a loosely applied floral aesthetic to achieve a little bit of cohesion in the bridal party, and let the colour do the rest of the talking.

Their wedding was held at the beautiful Good Shepherd Chapel, Abbotsford. Rachael’s sister-in-law, Katie, sang “Fools Rush In” as the bride walked down the aisle in a gown made by Melbourne couture designer Helen Manuel. Amon waited for her at the end in a custom cerulean blue Ralph Lauren suit and black bow tie. Bridesmaids picked their own dresses (you always end up with great results when ladies choose their own dress!). Groomsmen wore a floral print paul smith shirt and bow tie and suits from their closets. After the nuptials, the couple was whisked away in a friend’s 1975 black mustang convertible for photos.

The reception was held at the Fitzroy Town Hall which encompassed the formal/informal vibe with its subtle grandeur and grunge street cred. The bridal party decorated the steps in colourful streamers as guests arrived and were greeted with the couple’s favourite cocktails–the French 75, and Cadillac Margarita. They walked into a hall that was adorned with unstructured bouquets of wildflowers in jars (the bride found these in op shops!) designed by friend and florist Emily Bourne. Colourful fruit and veg was laid out on the table to mimic a sort of Dutch still-life painting (donated to the Sacred Heart Mission at the end of the night).Table numbers and candles were a quick DIY project that involved painting white numbers on jars and taping parchment paper around–gorgeous and cheap way to diffuse light and hide fake candles! The delicious tapas menu, created by Sorella Foods (based in Birregura), included some of the couple’s favourites (meatballs, mac&cheese, and meredith dairy goats cheese). To save a bit on catering costs, the couple asked family and friends to make an array of deserts and cakes.

The grande finale of the evening included an epic choreographed dance in unitards to Amon’s favourite “One More Time,” and then danced the night away to the tunes of the “Essentials.”
