This couple’s whirlwind romance turned into one of the most stunning soirees for their friends and family. Captured beautifully by Tealily Photography, each image is just as gorgeous as the last, and a beautiful glimpse into what was sure a perfect day. From the Bride…Stephen and I grew up in different states of Australia, about 3 hours apart. Despite Stephen living in my home town Sydney for a couple of years we didn’t actually meet until both on holiday in Thailand in 2007. We immediately hit it off and returned home to Australia knowing we had met someone really special. Soon after that initial meeting, Stephen got offered a job in Perth and despite only knowing each other for 5 months we took a huge leap of faith and decided to move to Perth together.

Many years and many new friends later, we made the tough decision to move back to Sydney to be closer to our families. Before we left Perth though we had a trip organized with Stephen’s family to Malaysia. It was here that Stephen romantically whisked me away, packed picnic lunch and bottle of Dom Pérignon in tow. He hired a long boat, a private island and on bended knee asked if I would be his wife. I said yes of course!

When it came to planning the wedding, we wanted the wedding to reflect who we both are as individuals and as a couple. We also wanted to incorporate the fact that many places have been home to us. As soon as we saw Gunners Barracks we knew this was it. It was old world (a bit like us), it had the army theme (which is just sooo Steve) and it was in the most beautiful location. It was the first place we saw and we snapped it up. When it came to creating a theme for the wedding, we knew we wanted it to be romantic, elegant and with a lot of personal DIY touches. My sister and I trawled through many blogs, our favorite being SMP, looking for inspiration for little DIY projects.

We designed all our own stationery, incorporating the chandelier from the reception, and a black and white theme. The escort cards were postcards, one side welcomed our guests to the wedding and directed them to their destination table, the other side was a montage of the awesome Tealily Photography engagement shots we had done. We also had a destination sign as you entered the reception (made by my older brother), which included the names of all the tables, which were destinations special to Stephen and I. We handmade signs for each table, the cookie buffet, guest book table etc. We also designed postcards with message prompts, in lieu of a guest book, which on the night guests filled out and popped into our letterbox.

Each place setting was a polaroid picture of each person’s name with a little “eat drink and be married” tag pegged to the “Zine”. The “Zine” (which means mini magazine) was a little scrapbooked booklet which included the menu, a little spiele about how we met, who the bridal party were, what was special about the places we had picked as our tables and some marriage advice from our parents. It also included a page with the pictures of our parents on their wedding day. We also had heaps of polaroids left over from the place settings and at the last minute we decided to do a DIY photobooth which was a great hit, and the polaroids turned out awesome.

The actual day was perfect. I was freaking out the day before as it poured non stop with crazy sideways rain. Even as we were going to bed the night before they were forecasting the weather to be the wettest August day on record, with wind warnings issued. I think it’s pretty safe to say I was pretty devastated, but I knew there was nothing I could do. When I woke up, the sun was trying to shine, and as the day went on the sun came out and continued to shine! By the time I arrived at the church you wouldn’t have even know that it had been raining. We were so lucky and it was perfect. Everything went off without a hitch, the food and service was absolutely amazing, and Steve and I had the greatest time. We are so lucky to have had so much help from our family and such an amazing team of vendors who made our wedding so special.
